To get the Gum Gum Fruit in Fortnite, follow its marker on Crossbones Isle, collect the fruit from the ground, and consume it through your inventory. The pickup transforms you into Monkey D. Luffy and unlocks his rubber attacks. Its spawn location changes, so the map marker matters more than memorizing a landing spot. Gum Gum Rocket supplies the big mobility payoff, but its 20-second cooldown and the fruit's water weakness can leave you in trouble if you choose a bad landing.
How do you find and activate the Gum Gum Fruit?
The Gum Gum Fruit spawns through a Rift and becomes a ground pickup on Crossbones Isle. Once it appears, its location is marked on the map, alerting everyone in the lobby. There is no fixed location where you can reliably collect it every match.
Follow the fruit marker
Check your minimap after landing and watch for the Gum Gum Fruit icon. The marker appears once the fruit has spawned. If you cannot see it yet, keep looting nearby buildings and open areas rather than abandoning your match to search blindly.

Find the fruit's map marker
Areas with plenty of floor loot give you more ground pickups to check, but the marker is your clearest lead. Keep your usual looting route until you have a location to pursue. Rushing around Crossbones Isle without equipment makes the hunt more dangerous than it needs to be.
Consume it to become Luffy
Picking up the Gum Gum Fruit and activating it are separate actions. To complete the transformation:
- Collect the fruit from the ground.
- Open your inventory and select the Gum Gum Fruit.
- Consume it to transform into Monkey D. Luffy.
The game broadcasts a message when a player consumes the fruit, so the lobby will know it has been claimed. You gain Luffy's abilities through the item itself; you do not need his cosmetic skin to use this transformation.

How do you complete the 250-meter Gum Gum Rocket quest?
The One Piece quest requires you to travel 250 meters using Gum Gum Rocket. Your launch height, aim angle, and charge length affect how far you travel. A fully charged launch from a good height can cover roughly 200 meters, so expect to need another launch if your first trip falls short.
Charge Rocket and choose your direction
Hold ADS to charge Gum Gum Rocket, aim toward your intended destination, and release to launch. Longer charges send Luffy farther. Rocket then enters a 20-second cooldown, which starts as soon as you use it.
For the distance quest, follow this sequence:
- Find an elevated launch position.
- Aim diagonally across the map.
- Fully charge Gum Gum Rocket before releasing it.
- Check your quest progress after the flight.
- Wait for Rocket to recharge, then cover any remaining distance.
Do not treat 200 meters as a guaranteed result. Rocket's distance depends on the angle and height of your launch. Plan the landing before you release it, especially if an enemy team is beneath your flight path. The 20-second cooldown means you cannot immediately launch away again.
What are the Gum Gum Fruit controls and abilities?
Treasure Hunters has two Devil Fruits: Gum Gum Fruit and Flame-Flame Fruit. For the alternative to Luffy's kit, check the Devil Fruits and how to get them guide. Gum Gum focuses on charged punches, directional launches, and an aerial slam.
| Ability | Control | Effect | Damage or restriction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gum Gum Pistol | Press or hold Fire | Stretching punch on the ground; kick while airborne | 50 to 150 damage, depending on charge |
| Gum Gum Rocket | Hold ADS, aim, and release | Launches Luffy in the direction of your aim | Longer charge increases distance; 20-second cooldown |
| Gum Gum Battleaxe | Press ADS while airborne after a Rocket launch | Brings Luffy's foot down for an area impact | Only usable in mid-air; damages a small landing area |
How does Gum Gum Pistol work?
Gum Gum Pistol attacks directly in front of Luffy with a stretched-arm punch. Press Fire for the basic attack, or hold it to charge. Damage scales between 50 and 150, depending on how long you charge before releasing.
The same Fire input becomes a kick while you are airborne. Your position changes the attack animation, while charging remains the mechanic that raises Pistol's damage. A quick hit and a fully charged strike have different damage payoffs, so do not expect every punch to hit for 150.
How do you trigger Gum Gum Battleaxe?
Gum Gum Battleaxe is the follow-up to a Rocket launch. Once you are airborne, press ADS again before landing. Luffy drives his foot downward and damages a small area where he lands.
If you spot enemies below during a Rocket flight, Battleaxe gives you an attacking landing. The trade-off is the same one that governs Rocket travel: your launch has already triggered the 20-second cooldown. A slam into an enemy team commits you to that landing without an immediate Rocket escape.
How do you stay alive while using the Gum Gum Fruit?
Water damages you while the Devil Fruit is active. Rivers, lakes, and coastal edges become hazards, particularly when you are aiming a long Rocket launch. Check where you will land rather than judging a route only by how much distance it covers.
Luffy's rubber body does not switch off the gunfights. Fortnite remains a shooter game, and the transformation leaves you vulnerable to enemy weapons. Rocket's mobility is valuable, but launching straight into a team can leave you exposed during its 20-second recharge.
Keep these restrictions in mind when choosing a Rocket destination:
- Avoid landing in rivers, lakes, or the sea.
- Check for enemies below before using Battleaxe.
- Account for Rocket's cooldown before committing to a fight.
- Keep looting normally while searching for the fruit instead of chasing it unprepared.
The useful habit is to judge Rocket by its landing, not just its distance. A roughly 200-meter flight is excellent movement, but a shorter route onto dry ground is preferable to finishing in water.
Can you keep the Gum Gum Fruit for the whole match?
You can use the Gum Gum Fruit throughout a Treasure Hunters match. Gum Gum Rocket's 20-second cooldown is a wait between launches, not a timer that ends the transformation.
Can you use two Devil Fruits at once?
You can only use one Devil Fruit at a time. Gum Gum Fruit and Flame-Flame Fruit are alternatives, so you cannot combine both sets of powers simultaneously.
These controls and values apply to the Treasure Hunters mini-season and may change with later updates. For more item walkthroughs beyond the Gum Gum Fruit, browse the Fortnite strategy guides and choose your next pickup to track down.
