Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 Guide: How to Get & Use Sprite Locator | GAMES.GG

The Lucky Locator is one of the most useful Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3, and it's deliberately hard to get. Unlike standard loot, you won't stumble across it in a chest or ammo box. Epic has kept it scarce on purpose, and once you understand what it does, that makes complete sense.

What does the Lucky Locator do in Fortnite?

The Lucky Locator is an Extraction Gizmo that scans the map and marks the location of a buried Sprite Chest guaranteed to contain a Sprite you haven't collected yet. That's the key difference between this and the standard Sprite Locator: the regular Sprite Locator points you toward any Sprite Chest, with no guarantee the Sprite inside is one you're missing. The Lucky Locator removes that guesswork entirely.

This makes it especially valuable if you're chasing rare Sprites like the Cube Sprites or the John Wick Sprite. When your collection is nearly complete and you keep digging up duplicates, the Lucky Locator cuts through the noise and sends you directly to a chest that matters.

important
The Lucky Locator is account-bound. Other players cannot loot it from you after an elimination. However, if you activate it and then get eliminated before reaching the marked chest, you lose the Lucky Locator entirely.

How to get the Lucky Locator in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3

There is currently only one way to get the Lucky Locator: reach Mastery level 50 on the Sprite Mastery track. That means fully mastering 50 Fortnite Sprites to unlock it as a reward.

You cannot find Lucky Locators in chests, ammo boxes, extraction site portals, or quest rewards. Epic has intentionally kept it out of standard loot pools because it functions essentially as a guaranteed rare Sprite finder. As the season progresses, Epic may add more ways to earn Lucky Locators, but as of now, the Sprite Mastery track is the only route.

For a closer look at how Sprite Chests work and how to track them down efficiently before you even have a Lucky Locator, the Sprite Locator guide for Chapter 7 Season 3 is worth reading first.

tip
Focus on mastering Sprites you can unlock quickly to push your Mastery level up faster. Common Sprites are easier to max out and still count toward the level 50 milestone.

How to use the Lucky Locator in Fortnite

Using the Lucky Locator follows the same process as any other Extraction Gizmo. Here's the full step-by-step:

  1. Hold your pickaxe, then press and hold Y / Triangle on controller or L on keyboard to open the Gizmo Wheel.
  2. Use the right stick or mouse to highlight the Lucky Locator.
  3. Press RT / R2 or left-click to activate it.
  4. Watch for the marked Sprite Chest location to appear on your map.
  5. Travel to the marked location and hit the spot with your pickaxe to dig up the chest.
  6. Collect your Sprite, then use a Portable Extractor to extract it before anyone else interferes.

Lucky Locator vs. Sprite Locator: which should you use?

If you're still building your Sprite collection from scratch, the standard Sprite Locator gets the job done and is far easier to obtain. The Lucky Locator is a finishing tool, most valuable once your collection is large enough that random Sprite Chests keep giving you duplicates.

The tradeoff is real: the Lucky Locator is more powerful but also more punishing. Activate it only when you're in a safe position, not mid-fight.

warning
Activating the Lucky Locator and then dying before reaching the chest wastes it completely. Save it for moments when you have a clear path to the marked location.

What to do after you collect your Sprite

Getting to the chest is only half the job. Once you dig up the Sprite Chest and collect your Sprite, extract it immediately using a Portable Extractor. If you get eliminated while carrying an unextracted Sprite, another player can pick it up. The Lucky Locator got you there, but the Portable Extractor seals the deal.
