Gothic 1 Remake review in progress

Spending Learning Points in Gothic 1 Remake is not as simple as opening a menu. You need to track down specific teacher NPCs scattered across camps, roads, and cave quarters, and some of them only become available after you commit to a faction. Miss the right trainer and your build stalls out fast. This guide covers every skill trainer in the game, what they teach, and exactly where to find them.

How does the skill training system work in Gothic 1 Remake?

Learning Points alone do not upgrade your skills. You spend those points through conversations with trainer NPCs, each of whom specializes in a specific discipline. Some trainers are standing in plain sight near camp entrances. Others are tucked behind faction gates that require full membership before they will talk to you. A few teach for free, which makes them worth visiting even if you are not committing to their camp.

If you are still getting your footing in the Barrier, the Gothic 1 Remake beginner's guide covers the basics of survival, weapon-finding, and trainer selection before you have even picked a faction.

Where are all the combat skill trainers?

One-handed combat

Scatty is the easiest combat trainer to reach early. He sits on a bench outside the fighting arena in the Old Camp and does not require any faction membership. Cord teaches the same discipline at the New Camp, standing on the rocky hill directly across from the tavern. Gor Na Toth is at the Swamp Camp and teaches for free, but only once you are an official camp member.

Two-handed combat

Thorus stands right in front of the inner castle entrance at the Old Camp, making him one of the most visible trainers in the game. Lee teaches two-handed combat at the New Camp, but only after you join the Mercenaries and gain access to the cave quarters. Cor Angar handles the same skill at the Swamp Camp training grounds, available after joining the Templars.

Ranged combat

Cavalorn teaches Bow Mastery and is located in the valley west of the Old Camp, not inside any camp. Wolf covers both Bow Mastery and Minecrawler Plate Extraction at the New Camp, near the main cave entrance. Scorpio teaches Crossbow Mastery inside the Old Camp castle, but only becomes available after you become a Guard or reach Chapter 4.

Where are the magic and mana trainers?

Magic trainers are split by camp and by how far along the Circles of Magic you need to go.

Saturas at the New Camp is the most complete magic trainer in the game, covering all six Circles of Magic from a single location. Corristo at the Old Camp only handles Circles 5 and 6, making him relevant only once you are deep into the Fire Mage path.

Where are the utility and crafting trainers?

Strength, dexterity, and sneaking

Diego teaches Strength and Dexterity at the Old Camp, leaning against his shack near the castle gates. He is one of the earliest trainers you will encounter naturally. Lares covers Strength, Dexterity, and Sneaking together from his guarded cave room in the New Camp, making him a strong option if you are going the thief route.

Fingers handles Pickpocketing and Lockpicking from an elevated hut along the inner wall of the Old Camp. Getting to him requires navigating the inner ring, which means you need enough standing to move freely inside.

Hunting and looting

Drax teaches Hunting (extracting Teeth, Fur, and Claws) from the dirt road just outside the Old Camp's north exit. Aidan covers Trophy Hunting from a small campsite on the path between the Old Camp and New Camp. Both are accessible without faction commitments.

Gor Na Drak teaches Minecrawler Jaw Looting for free along the road between the Old Camp and the Old Mine. Free trainers are always worth stopping for, even if you are not planning to use the skill immediately.

Buster at the New Camp bridge

Smithing

Huno teaches Blade Smithing at the active forge in the Old Camp's outer ring. Darrion handles Armor Smithing at the Swamp Camp's blacksmith forge near the entrance. Both are camp-based but do not appear to require deep faction standing to access.

What about acrobatics?

Buster teaches Acrobatics at the New Camp, near the wooden entrance bridge. He is one of the more straightforward trainers to find since the bridge is a natural entry point most players pass through anyway.

Planning your build around trainer access

Your faction choice directly determines which advanced trainers you can reach. A player who joins the Old Camp gets Corristo for Circles 5–6 and Scorpio for crossbows but loses access to Saturas and Lee. A New Camp player gets the broadest magic training through Saturas but never touches Cor Angar's two-handed training at the Swamp Camp.

For players still undecided, the Gothic 1 Remake factions guide breaks down every camp's class paths and available trainers so you can match your build to the right faction before committing.

For everything else you need to navigate the Barrier, the full Gothic 1 Remake guide collection has walkthroughs, weapon locations, and camp-specific strategies in one place.
