Out of Sight is a Chapter 1 side quest tied directly to your progress in Gothic 1 Remake. Thorus gives you the task of removing a New Camp merchant named Mordrag from the Old Camp's territory, and how you handle that removal is entirely up to you. The quest sits at the intersection of two faction storylines, so the choices you make here echo into the Admission to the Old Camp main quest and potentially your standing with the New Camp as well.
How to unlock Out of Sight
Head to the Old Camp Castle entrance and find Thorus. He won't hand over a task immediately. You need to push through a specific chain of dialogue options to convince him you're worth the trouble:
- "How about you test me? See if I got what it takes?"
- "All right, but there has to be something I can do for you."
- "Whatever you need done, I can handle it."
- "I'm ready for that job you mentioned."
That fourth option is the trigger. Thorus explains the situation with Mordrag and the quest registers in your log.
Where to find Mordrag
Mordrag is near the south exit of the Old Camp, close to the South Gate. He calls out to you the first time you get close enough, so you won't walk past him by accident. Once the conversation starts, you're at the first real decision point of the quest.

250 XP reward from Thorus
What are your choices for dealing with Mordrag?
The dialogue options split into two distinct paths:
- "You have a problem." or "Is it true you're a courier for the water mages?" Both lead to a peaceful resolution. Mordrag agrees to leave and offers to escort you to the New Camp, which starts the Admission to the New Camp main quest.
- "This camp is too small for the two of us." Starts a direct fight with Mordrag.
All three options let you report back to Thorus and finish the quest for the 250 XP reward.

Mordrag dialogue at the South Gate
Should you escort Mordrag to the New Camp or kill him?
Escorting Mordrag is the better value play for most situations. The journey to the New Camp marks it on your Colony map, Mordrag fights enemies along the route so you can loot the corpses without taking the hits yourself, and he hands over Mordrag's Ring at the New Camp entrance. You also unlock the Admission to the New Camp questline, which opens up a whole faction path.
Killing him nets the same ring plus the Sting Mace, but you lose the map discovery and the New Camp questline trigger. The 200 XP is identical either way.
Beating him up and sending him off is the weakest outcome at only 100 XP and no ring. Avoid this option unless you're specifically trying to avoid the New Camp entirely.
What should you do with Mordrag's Ring?
Once you have Mordrag's Ring, two options open up:
- Give it to Lares at the New Camp to advance the Admission to the New Camp questline and unlock the A Piece of the Pie quest.
- Keep it for the +5 Dexterity bonus, or sell it for a solid sum of Ore Nuggets.
If you're planning to join the New Camp, hand the ring to Lares. If you're committed to the Old Camp path, the Dexterity boost or the sale value makes more sense. Check out the full New Camp joining walkthrough if you want to see how far that questline goes before deciding.
Reporting back to Thorus and the Fisk problem
Return to Thorus and report Mordrag's removal. He gives you his vote toward Admission to the Old Camp and 250 XP. You also gain access to Mordrag's old residence, which gives you a free place to sleep and store items inside the Old Camp.
Here's the complication: completing this quest angers Fisk, who is connected to the Whistler's Sword side quest. The next time you approach Fisk, he'll threaten to vote against you in the Admission to the Old Camp process. You can defuse this entirely by starting and completing A New Fence for Fisk. The other option is simply not approaching Fisk at all before you complete Diego's quest, since he can't cast a vote against you if the conversation never happens.
For context on how Out of Sight fits into the broader Old Camp questline, the Old Camp joining guide covers every step from Diego's approval through convincing Gomez.
How does Out of Sight connect to other quests?
This quest has more downstream effects than it first appears:
- Completing it unlocks Admission to the New Camp if you escort Mordrag
- It contributes a required vote toward Admission to the Old Camp
- It can create a conflict with Fisk that blocks another Old Camp vote unless resolved via A New Fence for Fisk
- Mordrag's Ring can advance the New Camp questline if given to Lares
