How to Activate Skulls in Halo: Campaign Evolved (All Skull Locations) - Phrasemaker

Two Betrayals is where Halo: Campaign Evolved stops pulling punches on collectibles. This is the 8th main mission in the game, and it contains three Skulls plus one Terminal, with the Mythic Skull standing out as one of the most demanding unlocks in the entire campaign. Two of the three Skulls are also required for LASO difficulty, so skipping this mission's collectibles has real consequences beyond just trophy hunting.

What collectibles are in Two Betrayals?

Two Betrayals holds 3 Skulls (Tough Luck, Black Eye, and Mythic) and 1 Terminal (titled "Alone"). The Terminal is the easiest grab of the bunch and sits right at the mission's opening. The Skulls range from awkward to genuinely difficult, with the Mythic Skull requiring you to clear three consecutive enemy-wave rooms before it even spawns.

Grabbing all four collectibles in this mission contributes to the Outpost Discoveries trophy, and all three Skulls are needed for the Headhunter trophy.

Terminal location: Alone

Rally Point: Alpha

This one is almost impossible to miss if you know to look for it. At the very beginning of the mission, clear out the Sentinels in the opening room. Once they're down, turn back toward the holographic planet display in the center of the room. Follow either side of the path that wraps around it and you'll find the Terminal waiting there. Interact with it before moving on, since backtracking to Rally Point Alpha later is a pain.

tip
Grab the Terminal immediately after the Sentinel fight at the mission's start. It takes about 30 seconds and saves you a full replay of the opening section.

Where is the Tough Luck Skull in Two Betrayals?

Rally Point: Alpha

Once you head outside and the mission instructs you to board a Banshee, resist the urge to fly straight to the objective marker. Instead, take the Banshee and fly it back toward the building you just exited. Look for the blue light at the center of the building's exterior. There's a platform directly in front of that blue light, and the Tough Luck Skull is sitting on top of it.

If your Banshee piloting is shaky, activating the Acrophobia Skull beforehand lets you fly up to the ledge on foot, which is a legitimate alternative route to the same pickup.

warning
Don't fly past the spire too fast. The platform is easy to overshoot on your first attempt. Approach slowly from below and hover before landing.

Effect: Enemies dodge projectiles more aggressively, go berserk rather than retreating, and will never flee from combat. This modifier makes any engagement significantly more chaotic since enemies that would normally fall back instead charge.

Where is the Black Eye Skull in Two Betrayals?

Rally Point: Charlie

After completing the first pulse generator conduit objective and heading back outside, you'll see three large bridge ramps hanging over a lowered path below. This area should look familiar if you played Assault on the Control Room. Cross the middle bridge and follow the path forward into the corner. Among the orange Flood growths (the bulbous biomass clusters on the ground), the Black Eye Skull is tucked at the back of the area.

Turn your flashlight on here. The Skull blends into the dead Flood remains and snow, and it's genuinely hard to spot without the extra light.

Effect: Your shields only recharge after landing a melee hit on an enemy. No passive regeneration. This is one of the two Skulls required to unlock LASO difficulty, and it completely changes how you approach every fight since you need to stay aggressive to keep your shields functional.

Where is the Mythic Skull in Two Betrayals?

Rally Point: Charlie

This is the one that takes real effort. After picking up the Black Eye Skull, continue following the objective path around the gorge and to the left. You'll reach a fork: the left path has a Banshee and a turret, the right has Covenant and Flood engaged in combat. Take the left path and board the Banshee.

Fly directly to the top of the building in front of you and interact with the control panel on the platform. This opens a door on the opposite side of that same platform. Fly over to it.

Once inside, you'll work through three consecutive locked sections:

  • Room 1: Clear all enemies to unlock the door to the next section
  • Room 2: Clear all enemies in the tunnel and second room to progress
  • Room 3: Defeat every enemy in the final room, and the Mythic Skull will spawn on a platform in the middle of the space

The Skull only appears after the third room is fully cleared, so don't rush past anything.

important
Every enemy in each room must be eliminated before the next door unlocks. If a door isn't opening, scan the room for stragglers. Flood Combat Forms in particular have a habit of hiding in corners.

Effect: All enemies have substantially increased health, making them much harder to kill. Like Black Eye, this Skull is required for LASO difficulty. Running both simultaneously is exactly as punishing as it sounds.

What order should you grab these collectibles?

The natural mission flow works well here. Grab the Terminal at the very start before engaging any story objectives. The Tough Luck Skull comes next when you first get access to a Banshee at Rally Point Alpha. Both the Black Eye and Mythic Skulls are locked behind Rally Point Charlie, and since Mythic requires you to pick up Black Eye first (they're encountered in sequence), you'll grab them in order naturally.

The only collectible that requires deliberate detour is the Mythic Skull, which sits entirely off the critical path behind a hidden door triggered by a platform terminal. Without knowing it exists, you'd complete the mission without ever seeing it.

tip
Collecting all four items in Two Betrayals (three Skulls plus the Terminal) counts toward the Outpost Discoveries trophy. All 42 Skulls across the game are needed for the Headhunter trophy.

For a full breakdown of every Skull in the game and what each one does, the complete Skulls effects guide covers all 42 modifiers in detail. If you want every Terminal and Skull location across all missions in one place, the full skulls and terminal locations guide for Pillar of Autumn is a good companion resource. For everything else Two Betrayals connects to across the campaign, the full Halo: Campaign Evolved guide collection has you covered.
