Heartopia is full of things to discover, but few feel as rewarding as making friends with the island's wildlife. Befriending an animal means finding its trough and figuring out what food it actually likes , feeding the right stuff builds the bond a lot faster. This guide covers everything needed to unlock Animal Care and track down every trough on the map.
How to Unlock Animal Care in Heartopia
Progressing through the main story and leveling up the Developer's Guild eventually unlocks the Animal Care section of the Town Guide. Talking to Annie afterward introduces the island's wildlife, and each species sticks to its own specific area with its own preferred foods.
As part of this introduction, Annie sends players to find the Sika Deer trough in the forest. Filling it with food from the inventory and waiting a bit lets the animals eat, which raises the bond level for that animal group.

As bond levels climb, so do the odds of an animal visiting, interacting successfully, or leaving a gift at the trough. Beyond feeding, each animal also has its own interactions available , like petting or playing hide-and-seek , and unique furniture pieces unlock as rewards for building up that friendship.
All Animal Trough Locations and Favorite Foods
Feeding an animal its favorite foods specifically speeds up bonding compared to tossing in whatever happens to be on hand.
Bond Rewards for Every Animal
Every animal group hands out a similar set of milestone rewards as bond levels climb , mostly ornaments, puzzles, and Stars , with a unique themed decoration at Level 20.
A few examples: the Panda track hits 60 Stars at Levels 10 and 16, unlocks a Panda Lamp at Level 18, and finishes with a Panda Family Ornament at Level 20. The Fox track follows a similar path but ends with the Fox King's Summon Ornament, while the Alpaca line wraps up with the Loving Alpaca Family Ornament.

Each animal group generally follows this same reward rhythm:
- Early levels (3, 7, 8–9): Standard and family-themed ornaments
- Mid levels (10, 16): 60 Stars
- Levels 11–12: Themed puzzles
- Level 14: A friendship gift ornament
- Level 18: A themed lamp
- Level 20: A unique, animal-specific decoration piece
