How to find and read the clue notes
Two handwritten notes are placed in the general area around the safe. One reads "59x" and the other reads "x96". The shared middle digit, 9, is the overlap between both fragments, and the safe's center dial is permanently fixed on 9 and cannot be changed.
Once you understand that both notes describe the same three-digit number from different angles, the answer clicks into place: the first note gives you the first two digits (5 and 9), the second gives you the last two (9 and 6), and the locked middle confirms the 9 is shared. Result: 596.
