The Memento Mori achievement in Marvel Rivals is one of those map-specific tasks that sounds simple on paper but trips players up because the location is easy to walk right past. The whole thing comes down to one emote near a very specific spot on the Thebes map. Here's everything you need to know to get it done without wasting time.
What is the Memento Mori achievement?
Memento Mori is a map-based achievement tied exclusively to the Thebes Convoy map. To complete it, you need to perform any emote while standing near Apocalypse's Sarcophagus in Thebes. That's the entire requirement. The challenge is knowing where the sarcophagus actually is and making sure you're in the right game mode to access it.
How to get the Memento Mori achievement in Marvel Rivals

Archway to the final spawn room
Step 1: Load into the right game mode
Thebes is a Convoy map, which means it only appears in Quick Match or Competitive rounds. You cannot access it through custom lobbies or other modes. Quick Match is the better option here. Competitive is not the place to wander off looking for a sarcophagus.
If you're attempting this shortly after Thebes launched on July 23, there's a temporary Quick Match (Thebes) mode available that guarantees you land on this map every time. It only runs for five days from launch, so if it's still active when you're reading this, use it. Once it's gone, you're back to relying on the random map rotation.
Step 2: Get Thebes as your map
Outside of the limited-time mode, map selection is random. Keep queuing Quick Match rounds until Thebes comes up. There's no shortcut here, but the pool of maps means you should land on it within a few games.
Step 3: Find Apocalypse's Sarcophagus
This is where most players get stuck. The sarcophagus is located near the spawn room closest to the end of the map on the defending team's side. Specifically, it sits just outside the spawn room in the outdoor section of the map, near the archway that connects the indoor and outdoor areas.
The quickest way to reach it:
- Play on the defending team
- Let the convoy pass the first checkpoint
- Die once, and you'll respawn in the correct spawn room right next to the sarcophagus
If you'd rather not die to get there, navigate to the outdoor section of the map and look for the archway leading to the defending team's final spawn room. The sarcophagus is sitting right in front of that room. Both teams can physically reach this spot, so attackers can find it too with a bit of map awareness
Step 4: Perform any emote
Stand near Apocalypse's Sarcophagus and trigger any emote from your collection. The achievement should pop immediately. Emote-based achievements can occasionally be finicky with detection radius, so if it doesn't register on the first try, move slightly closer to the sarcophagus and try again.
Why is the sarcophagus hard to find?
Thebes is a large map with distinct indoor and outdoor sections. The final outdoor area sees a lot of combat near the convoy endpoint, and the defending spawn room is tucked off to the side rather than sitting along the main path. Players focused on the objective naturally gravitate toward the convoy route and never drift far enough to spot the archway leading to the spawn room.
Dying once after the first checkpoint is genuinely the most reliable method. The respawn puts you directly adjacent to the sarcophagus with zero navigation required.
What else can you do on Thebes?
Thebes has more to offer than a single achievement. The map launched with the Death of Apocalypse event, and there are several other objectives tied to it. If you're working through the full achievement list for this event, check the Marvel Rivals guides collection for walkthroughs on every map-based task.
The Death of Apocalypse event also includes mystery cases with specific clue placement puzzles that are worth tackling while you're already queuing into Thebes rounds. And if you're grinding the Season 9 event pass alongside your achievements, there's a free Magneto Magnetic Vintage skin available at Tier 18 of the Van Dyne Couture pass that's worth picking up while you're active.
For Lower Manhattan objectives, the Vault Deposit achievement guide covers exactly what you need to deliver the Tablet of Life and Time to complete that one too.
