NBA 2K27 MyTEAM throws a lot at you from the moment you load in. Domination, Breakout, Gauntlet, Showdown, Triple Threat Online, Clutch Time Online, Challenges, The Exchange is the mode list alone is enough to make you close the game and go watch basketball instead. The good news is that you don't need to touch most of it right away. A focused early grind through a handful of modes will build your lineup faster than bouncing between everything at once.
Start every session by checking Daily Challenges
Before you queue into anything, open Daily Challenges. They're the fastest MT you'll earn all session, and most of them complete themselves during normal gameplay. At launch, finishing three of the four available Daily Challenge objectives pays out 5,000 MT. The objectives rotate and typically involve scoring thresholds, winning games, or playing specific modes.
NBA 2K27 also runs a separate Daily Login system alongside challenges. Login streaks hit milestones at three, five, and seven consecutive days, and Lifetime rewards accumulate based on total MyTEAM login days across the year. Logging in every day costs nothing and adds up fast.

Why should beginners start with Domination?
Domination is the single best starting mode for new MyTEAM players, and it's not particularly close. It pays out MT, rewards cards, and teaches you how to run a full lineup against the CPU without the pressure of online matchmaking. NBA 2K27 launches with two Domination sets:
2K has confirmed that Domination set lengths can now vary throughout the year rather than locking into the traditional 33-game format every time. The NBA Domination reward path includes a Galaxy Opal OG Anunoby as a Season 1 reward card, which is a genuinely strong pull for early-game progress.
The other thing Domination does well is force you to learn. Shooting, defensive rotations, and lineup management all get reps here in a low-stakes environment. By the time you're ready for online modes, the fundamentals are already there. Check out the NBA 2K27 best builds for every position guide to make sure the players you're running are set up properly.
Don't skip Hone Your Skills
The Hone Your Skills section sits in the Challenges tab and covers systems that most players stumble into blind. These intermediate tutorial challenges walk through Coach Development, Evolutions and Starter Evolution cards, Dynamic Duos, and Collection Complete rewards. None of those are self-explanatory, and skipping this section means figuring them out through trial and error later.
NBA 2K27 also starts every new MyTEAM player with Welcome to MyTEAM games built around cover athlete Victor Wembanyama. Finishing the intro sequence hands you a 10-card starter kit, which is the foundation of your first real lineup.

How does The Exchange work in NBA 2K27?
The Exchange received a significant rework in NBA 2K27 and is now one of the most important systems to understand before you start quickselling cards.
Almost every Player Card can be submitted to an Exchange, including cards earned from Season levels and cards previously used to earn a Collection Reward. Free Agent cards are the only exclusion. The requirements are also more flexible than in past years: a higher Gem Tier card can satisfy a lower-tier requirement. A Diamond qualifies for an Amethyst+ slot, for example.
Before you quicksell anything, run through this checklist:
- Does the card still belong in your main lineup?
- Is it needed for an active Exhibition or Challenge?
- Can it satisfy a requirement in a high-tier Exchange?
Season 1's Premier Exchange rewards an exclusive Dark Matter Tracy McGrady for submitting the required eligible Player Cards. Season 1 also confirms cards including Amethyst Bam Adebayo, Desmond Bane, Ivica Zubac, Khris Middleton, Dark Matter Olivia Miles, and Dark Matter Derrick Rose as part of the reward pool.
Keep Exhibitions running in the background
Exhibitions are passive MT and rewards that run while you play other modes. You send Player Cards on missions, and when those missions complete, you collect the rewards. The key rule: meet the recommended tier requirement. NBA 2K27 allows cards below the required tier to be submitted in some cases, but doing so reduces the mission's success rate. Sending a Gold card into a Ruby mission can result in a failed Exhibition with no reward.
The Exhibition Win Streak ladder adds another layer. Successful missions advance the streak toward a repeatable top reward. A failure resets the streak, though those rewards can be earned again. Cards that don't fit your lineup or any Exchange should almost always be in an active Exhibition rather than sitting idle.
What's the difference between Season XP and Player XP?
NBA 2K27 runs two separate progression systems that are easy to confuse.
Season XP tracks your account's progress through the current Season reward ladder. During Season 1, playing games in MyTEAM earns XP toward a shared 40-level progression track. This is where 2XP Coins pay off most, especially during longer Domination sessions.
Player XP is completely separate and tied to individual cards. Every Player Card levels up through use in MyTEAM games, with stronger performances accelerating progression. Leveling a card can unlock attribute boosts, the ability to start games with Takeover already active, an additional turbo meter, and an extra Badge Slot. Player XP is also account-bound: if you auction a card and reacquire it later, its previous XP progress carries over.
NBA 2K27 includes dedicated Game Changer cards for managing this system, including Player XP Boost, Player XP Multiplier, Clean Slate, and Respec.

Online modes: when should you add them to the rotation?
Triple Threat Online and Clutch Time Online are both worth adding once your lineup can compete, but they serve different purposes.
Triple Threat Online runs for the full Season 1 duration and uses a traditional ladder reward system. Smaller three-player lineups mean you can field a competitive squad earlier than in full 5-on-5 modes. Cards earned here that don't fit the lineup can also be fed into The Exchange.
Clutch Time Online returns with its 4-point line and 14-second shot clock, but it's now part of MyTEAM's rotating Limited Time Modes pool. That means availability, lineup requirements, and rewards can change throughout the year. When it appears with a strong reward ladder, it's worth prioritizing over offline grinding.
Recommended starting order for NBA 2K27 MyTEAM
The biggest shift in NBA 2K27 MyTEAM compared to previous years is that almost every card in your collection can contribute to progression in some way. Keeping Exhibitions active, checking challenges daily, saving cards for The Exchange, and leveling your core players through Player XP will get you to a competitive lineup faster than grinding any single mode in isolation.
