Every fight in Neverness to Everness runs on one core idea: swap characters to trigger Esper Cycle reactions, chain those reactions together, and your damage multiplies dramatically. Teams that ignore this system feel sluggish and underpowered. Teams built around it can melt boss health bars and clear mob waves in seconds. This guide breaks down the best team compositions and the three character builds that make them work, so you can stop guessing and start hitting.

What are the best team compositions in NTE?
Burst Team
This is the highest single-target burst team in the current meta, built around summoning and empowering Vita Pistils for persistent Anima damage.
The rotation matters here. Deploy Jiuyuan first to apply Lethal Rose Pact to enemies. Switch to Sakiri and hold her Skill (Devour Whole) to pull enemies together. Then swap to Esper Zero and use his Skill to instantly fill the Cycle Gauge. Once full, bring in Nanally to trigger Blossom. Her Skill provides a 30% Crit boost that directly amplifies her Ultimate, and her Underboss follow-up keeps adding Anima hits even when she leaves the field. Cycle back through Jiuyuan to expend Rose Pact Bullets before using her Ultimate for Pact Settlement, then return to Nanally for another damage window.
According to Game8's community testing, Sakiri also delivers a 30% Team ATK bonus when she uses her Ultimate, with another 30% Team ATK bonus available at Awakening Level 1.
Use supports first in this team before swapping to Nanally. Unlike most comps, the buff setup window is what makes or breaks your burst.
Boss-Breaking Team
Built for endgame content like Beyond the Rails, this team uses the Scorch and Nova combo to shred enemy Break bars continuously.
Daffodill is the linchpin. Her Chaos element activates both Scorch and Nova on the same target simultaneously, triggering Discord passively while she wears down enemy shields in the background. Baicang starts the rotation by spending his Skills before triggering Scorch with Daffodill. Once Daffodill charges her Cycle Gauge, swap to Haniel to activate Nova, which then triggers Discord if Scorch is still active. Return to Daffodill to continue Break damage.
One thing to watch with Baicang: his Power Words cost HP, so track his health while playing aggressively. His Ultimate also has an execute threshold, making it most effective as a finishing move rather than something to use freely mid-fight.
Bring Fadia instead of Haniel if you need survivability. Her damage redirection gives the team a durability layer that makes tougher boss phases much more manageable, as noted across multiple sources including neverness.gg's team guide.

Charge Ultimate Spam Team
This team focuses on the Charge reaction (Lakshana + Anima or Cosmos variants) to generate massive Ultimate energy, letting your DPS fire off Ultimates far more frequently than normal.
Chiz accumulates a resource called Grain through combat, and her Redirect Skill has three damage tiers based on current Grain count. Her Ultimate opens a special burst state where timing your actions within the window maximizes output. Hathor builds Express Delivery Power through dodges and Skill usage, then cashes it in with her Ultimate for a flat ATK boost based on accumulated stacks. Critically, switching away from Hathor immediately ends her Ultimate state, so stay on her until the window closes.
Play supports first in this team before switching to your main DPS, unlike in the Blossom team where you also set up first but for different reasons.
Best F2P Starting Team
No S-rank characters? This lineup carries you through story content and into harder challenges without needing premium pulls.
Mint and Esper Zero trigger Blossom together, making it the team's primary reaction. Mint can also widen the area that Vita Pistils hit. Adler scales off DEF for both his shields and Incantation DoT, so he contributes without needing dedicated DPS investment. Haniel deploys Hootie for additional damage and ATK buffs, and only needs to swap in briefly to do her job.
If you pull a single S-rank character, Game8 recommends Sakiri as the priority pick for this team slot. She adds crowd control and ATK buffs that immediately elevate the whole lineup.
The Skia team (Skia, Esper Zero, Sakiri, Haniel) is another solid beginner option. Stain applies automatically in the rotation, giving enemies 50% increased Psyche and Lakshana damage for 12 seconds with no special setup required.

Flex picks and substitution rules
Your roster probably does not perfectly match any lineup above. Here is how to make smart substitutions:
- Adler (Incantation, A-rank): Shields the whole team and deals Incantation DoT. Scales off DEF for both, so he works in most comps with no special setup.
- Edgar (Cosmos, A-rank): Dedicated healer. Bring him if survivability is the problem.
- Fadia (Psyche, S-rank): Redirects damage away from teammates and charges the Esper Cycle quickly during quickswap rotations. Fits the Discord boss team as a Haniel replacement without breaking the elemental lane.
Always save Ultimates for stagger windows regardless of which team you run. The damage multiplier during a broken enemy state is significant enough that using your Ultimate outside of it is a meaningful loss.
