Volley Star is a 2v2 beach volleyball mode introduced in Neverness to Everness Version 1.3. Players control one character while an AI teammate covers the other half of the court.
Although the limited Volley Star rewards are only available until September 30, 2026, the mode will remain permanently available as a Hethereau Hobby. This guide explains how to unlock Volley Star, collect Stars, upgrade characters, and win matches more consistently.
Volley Star Event Details
The limited event track includes the Summer Glow avatar frame, Imaginist Court namecard, Annulith, Fabricated Dice, Fons, Floe Cinema Tickets, Elite Hunter Guides, Chaotic Dye, and other rewards.
How to Unlock Volley Star
Volley Star becomes available after the Version 1.3 update. Players must complete the Beat On, the Heart of Summer side quest, which introduces the volleyball court at Starfall Bay and teaches the basic controls.
Finishing the quest unlocks the Rookie Series. Additional stages, playable characters, and the Weekly Match tournament are unlocked through Rookie Series progression.
How Volley Star Works
Each match features two teams of two characters. Players directly control one character, while the selected partner is handled by the AI.
A match ends once one team scores at least seven points and holds a two-point advantage over the opponent. Players can serve, pass, receive, dig, block, feint, and spike the ball during a rally.

Each character has six Volley Star stats:
- Serve
- Spike
- Pass
- Receive
- Block
- Dig
Characters earn EXP by completing matches. Talent Bread can also be used to upgrade individual stats, improving actions such as jump serves, spikes, blocks, and diving receives.
Rookie Series and Stars
The Rookie Series is the main progression mode in Volley Star. It contains four groups of stages:
- Warm-Up
- First Serve
- Finding Form
- Pro Arena
Each match offers up to three Stars. The usual objectives require players to win the match, finish at least three points ahead, and perform one jump spike. Tips do not count toward the jump-spike objective.
Stars unlock new characters and provide progression rewards, including Talent Bread. Players only need 50 Stars for the limited event mission, while the Rookie Series contains 150 Stars overall. The 120-Star target is part of the standard progression track rather than the limited mission.
Players can spend City Stamina when entering eligible matches to receive Fons. Matches played without a Fons payout can still be used to complete Star objectives, making it possible to continue progressing after the available stamina has been spent.
Limited Reward Requirements
Players must complete the following objectives before the limited event ends:
- Earn 50 Stars in the Rookie Series
- Raise four Volley Star characters to Level 15
- Recruit all seven characters
- Use Talent Bread 16 times
The fastest approach is to build one reliable scorer while rotating three other characters through easier Rookie Series matches. This allows the main character to handle difficult stages while the rest of the roster gains the levels required for the event mission.
Volley Star Characters
Esper Zero and Mint are available near the beginning. Iroi, Nanally, Shinku, Chaos, and Zankou are unlocked through further progression.
Esper Zero is a good starting option because of their balanced stats. Serve and Spike are useful early upgrades because they provide more control over scoring and make jump serves harder for NPC teams to return.
Talent Bread should mainly be invested in one or two reliable characters. Spreading every upgrade across the full roster can leave the main pair underpowered for Pro Arena and Weekly Match.

Weekly Match Rewards
Weekly Match is a PvE tournament against several NPC teams. It unlocks after clearing Warm-Up 10 in the Rookie Series and includes up to five matches across the group stage and finals.
Final placement determines the main Fons reward:
These placement rewards draw from the Tycoon Incentive Fund shared with selected Hethereau Hobbies. Other match income may be added separately to the final amount. Winning the championship can also provide Talent Bread for further character upgrades.
Tips for Winning Volley Star
Volley Star is easier when players maintain their position and allow the AI partner to handle balls on its side of the court.
- Leave space for the teammate. Standing too close can interrupt actions or cause both characters to miss the same ball.
- Target the side or middle gap. NPC teams often struggle with serves placed between both defenders or near the edge of the court.
- Use normal serves early. Jump serves are stronger, but characters with low Serve stats are more likely to hit the net.
- Create a spike setup. A receive followed by a pass to the teammate often results in a return pass that can be finished with a spike.
- Follow the ball's shadow. The shadow on the sand provides a clearer landing point than the ball's position in the air.
- Time spikes manually. The spike input should be pressed as the character's arm extends toward the ball. Disabling Auto-Spike provides more control.
- Return the ball when the teammate falls. A partner recovering from a diving save may not stand up quickly enough to attack another pass.

How to Use the Truck Exploit
Players struggling with the Rookie Series can use an unintended vehicle exploit to block the opposing team.
A construction truck can be taken from the worksite near Starfall Bay and driven onto the beach. It should be parked on the opponent's side of the court, close to the net. Positioning the truck slightly to the right usually works better than placing it completely straight.

Once the truck is in position, the controlled character should use a jump serve. The serve input should be pressed as the character's hand reaches the ball. This reduces the chance of hitting the net or sending the ball outside the court.
The truck can interfere with the opposing NPCs and prevent them from reaching the ball, creating easy points.

Fastest Way to Complete Volley Star
The fastest route is to clear the Rookie Series with Esper Zero or another strong offensive character while prioritizing Serve and Spike. Three additional characters should rotate into easier matches until four members of the roster reach Level 15.
Players should collect 50 Stars, recruit all seven characters, and use Talent Bread 16 times before the limited rewards expire. The remaining standard Star milestones can be completed later because Volley Star will stay permanently available as a Hethereau Hobby.
