IO Interactive has officially announced that 007 First Light will not be hitting Nintendo Switch 2 this summer. The studio posted a statement today confirming the delay, pushing the Switch 2 version back to March 2027, with an exact date still to be confirmed.
"To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game," IO Interactive said in the post.
A delay that has been building for a while
Here's the thing: this is not the first time Switch 2 players have been asked to wait. The original plan was for 007 First Light to launch simultaneously across all platforms. IO Interactive broke from that plan earlier this year, pushing the Switch 2 version to Summer 2026 and citing quality concerns at the time. Studio CEO Hakan Abrak was candid about it: "We just want to make sure it's good as it can be. I don't want to hear it wasn't a good version."
That summer window has now slipped again. So Switch 2 owners are looking at a gap of roughly ten months behind the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S release, which landed on May 27.
Gamescom feedback was positive, so what gives?
What makes this delay a little surprising is the context surrounding it. IO Interactive noted that the Switch 2 demo shown at Gamescom received genuinely positive feedback, and that same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show from September 17 to September 21. That is not the behavior of a studio sitting on a broken port.
The studio framed the delay as a polish decision rather than a fundamental technical problem, and the public demo appearances back that up. The Switch 2 hardware is capable, but getting a game like 007 First Light running at a standard that matches the other versions clearly takes more time than anticipated.
What Switch 2 players can do in the meantime
