Gen.G swept LYON 3-0 in the League of Legends Worlds 2026 quarterfinals on November 4 in Allen, Texas, eliminating North America's last remaining team. The LCK top seed will face Invictus Gaming in the semifinals.

The sweep followed a closer Swiss Stage meeting between the teams. Gen.G entered the quarterfinal with the better record, earned first side selection, and chose blue side. They played all three games from that side.

How Gen.G closed out the sweep

LYON found early openings in game one, winning a bot-lane 2v2 and a skirmish around the first dragon. Gen.G recovered by repeatedly punishing Dhokla, then secured Baron and Hextech Soul. The opener ended in about 32 minutes, with Gen.G ahead 19-8 in kills.

Ruler helped drive the second game with two kills on Ashe. Canyon added a dragon steal on Jarvan IV, and Gen.G used Baron buff to break into LYON's base. It was the shortest game of the series, putting LYON one loss from elimination.

LYON found teamfight wins in game three through Saint's Anivia and Inspired. A mistake around the Dragon Soul fight returned control to Gen.G, who secured Baron and finished with an ace without losing a player. Canyon was named player of the series.

LYON leave with their best Worlds finish

LYON finish in joint fifth to eighth place, their highest placement at Worlds and their first appearance in the tournament's knockout stage. Their run ended one round short of the semifinals.

The organization had made four previous Worlds appearances without finishing above 17th. Reaching the quarterfinals improved that record, even though LYON could not take a game in their final series.

LYON qualified through the Swiss Stage with a 3-2 record. Their path through the League of Legends Worlds 2026 format included wins in their opening two matches before a deciding fifth-round series:

  • Round one: Beat Team Secret Whales 1-0.
  • Round two: Beat Karmine Corp 1-0.
  • Round three: Lost 1-2 to Gen.G on October 25. LYON's victory was the only game Gen.G dropped during the Swiss Stage.
  • Round four: Lost 1-2 to Invictus Gaming.
  • Round five: Beat LOS 2-1 to secure a quarterfinal place.

Invictus Gaming stand between Gen.G and a first final

Gen.G are guaranteed at least a joint third-to-fourth finish and have reached the Worlds semifinals for a third consecutive year.

Invictus Gaming enter the matchup after a 3-1 quarterfinal victory. It is their first Worlds semifinal since 2019, with Rookie and TheShy, members of the organization's 2018 championship lineup, back in the last four.

The teams have already met at this tournament. Gen.G won their opening Swiss Stage match against Invictus Gaming 1-0. Their rematch will be a best-of-five.
