Moon Sweepers is worth it for $7.64, and I think you’re going to get more than 8 hours of fun out of it. I rate my fun on a basis of $1 per hour, so it clears that. I’ve been watching some of Moon Sweepers, and I actually might pick it up myself.

Key takeaways

  • Moon Sweepers is $8.99, or $7.64 with its launch discount until 30 October.
  • It’s definitely fun with friends, up to 16 in online co-op, and it can be fun on your own too.
  • Steam reviews are Mostly Positive, and the two-person team has patched it three times since 24 October.

Is Moon Sweepers worth it?

Moon Sweepers is worth it for what it costs. It’s normally $8.99, and the introductory offer of 15% off, down to $7.64, ends on 30 October (Steam). At my $1 an hour, you only need to get eight hours out of it, and I do think you’ll likely be able to do it.

Players seem to agree. 77% of its 1,870 Steam reviews are positive, which Steam rates as Mostly Positive. SteamDB recorded a peak of 62,957 people playing at once on 27 October, its first week out, and Steam’s own count still had 33,397 playing when I checked on 28 October.

What is Moon Sweepers?

Moon Sweepers is a cleaning game from DragDrop Games, released on 23 October. The Lunar Surface Department sends you and your crew to clean the dust off the entire Moon, and the budget only covered a toothbrush. You collect lunar dust, deliver it to a depot, launch shipments to get paid, and spend the money on better tools, more carrying capacity and cleaning vehicles.

From there it turns into a base builder. You place depots near where you’re working, build conveyor belts, solar panels and machines like the Stone Press, and send out J.O.O.N.A.S., a robot that cleans a sector for you. There’s a beginner’s guide on games.gg if you want the basics before you buy.

Is Moon Sweepers fun with friends?

Moon Sweepers is definitely fun with your friends, and it’s one that’s complemented by friends. But it might not be fun just because friends are there. You can have up to 16 players in an online co-op lobby, and the 1.0.3 patch on 24 October made upgrades shared across the whole crew, so anyone’s purchase upgrades everyone. Hosts can also kick or ban players from their save.

The ones I was watching, it was hilarious. They had got all the way up to having a lawnmower thing each, and they thought they had managed to clean quite a bit of the Moon. Then you zoom out and realise they had done basically nothing.

Can you play Moon Sweepers solo?

Yes, Moon Sweepers has a single-player mode, and I think it could be fun on your own. It’s more so on your own if you’re streaming. Then, whilst playing alone, you do have people interacting with the hilarity of the grind that is these types of games.

The 1.0.4 patch on 25 October changed J.O.O.N.A.S. too: it now keeps cleaning even when no players are nearby, and it launches its dust capsules to the nearest catcher instead of driving back to a dock.

Does Moon Sweepers feel like PowerWash Simulator?

Moon Sweepers can definitely have the same satisfaction level as PowerWash Simulator, depending on how it feels when you’re playing compared to watching. Rock Paper Shotgun called it the PowerWash genre’s latest, and the hook is the same: dusty ground turns clean with every pass, and you can track your progress across the surface.

The difference is scale. PowerWash Simulator gives you one job at a time, and Moon Sweepers gives you the whole Moon as one job. In a message on 24 October, the developers said players had reported crashes, performance problems, multiplayer bugs, a lack of automation and progression balancing, and the patches since have gone after those.

What’s in the Moon Sweepers 1.0.5 patch?

The Moon Sweepers 1.0.5 patch, out on 28 October, makes building far more flexible. You can now build on dusty ground without cleaning it first, build on, under and beside foundations, and pick up a piece with everything standing on it and move it for free. Removing a piece now refunds its whole price instead of 75%.

It also lines machines like the Stone Press up with the foundation you aim at, fixes a freeze some players hit shortly after loading their world, and cuts stutters in big bases. That’s three patches between 24 and 28 October from a team the developers say is just two people. If you’re planning a big base, games.gg has a factory layout guide too.

Is Moon Sweepers on PS5 or Xbox?

No, Moon Sweepers is only on PC right now, through Steam, and its store page lists Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version. It does have full controller support, including DualSense and DualShock controllers. The minimum spec is an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 1650 or RX 570.
