Capcom spent months building anticipation for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and now the first real gameplay mechanics are on the table. A new gameplay overview trailer dropped this week, putting the Boost Bracer front and center as the expansion's defining combat mechanic, and it looks like it touches every single weapon in the game.
What the Boost Bracer actually does
The core idea is straightforward: stay aggressive, build energy, then cash it in. Hunters accumulate Boost Bracer energy by landing consistent attacks on monsters. Once that meter is charged, you trigger it through a weapon-specific Boost Driver attack, or through unique activation inputs that vary by weapon type. What you get out of it depends entirely on what you're carrying.
For Monster Hunter Wilds veterans, this will feel familiar in spirit but distinct in execution. It's not a universal buff button. Each of the 14 weapon types gets its own Boost-enabled abilities, whether that's new combo extensions, enhanced attack properties, or entirely different move behaviors. Capcom hasn't fully mapped out every weapon's Boost state yet, but the trailer makes clear that the system was designed from the ground up to feel different depending on your playstyle.
The key here is that Boost doesn't reward passive play. You have to stay in the monster's face to charge it, which pushes hunters toward a more committed, aggressive style than the base game sometimes allowed.
Master Rank sets the stage
Ascendance is a full expansion, and the Boost Bracer arrives alongside a new set of challenges that actually justify the mechanic's existence. Master Rank brings harder monsters, more punishing encounter designs, and what Capcom describes as "powerful threats" that demand the kind of offensive pressure the Boost Bracer rewards.
The expansion also adds a new locale and continues the Expedition Team's story, giving returning players a reason to care beyond the mechanical upgrades. The footage shown is still from a game in development, so expect the final version to look and feel more polished than what's in the trailer right now.
If you want to get your loadouts and builds sorted before Ascendance arrives, the Monster Hunter Wilds Update 4 complete guide covers Gogmazios fights, Artian Weapon upgrades, and transcendence armor, which is the kind of foundation you'll want heading into Master Rank.
Release window and platforms
Ascendance is targeting a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. No specific date has been confirmed beyond that window, so there's still a fair stretch of time before hunters actually get their hands on the Boost Bracer in a live build.
For everything you'll need to prepare, the full Monster Hunter Wilds guides collection has you covered as Capcom continues to roll out more Ascendance details ahead of launch.
