Three maps. One season. A lot of long-overdue fixes.

Overwatch Season 4 launches on August 11, and Blizzard is shipping layout and visual reworks to Paraiso, Busan, and Eichenwalde alongside it. The changes were revealed during the OWCS Midseason Championship Grand Final, which wrapped up on August 2. Some of these updates are purely cosmetic and tied to the season's evolving lore, but others directly address balance complaints that players have been raising for a long time.

What Paraiso players have been waiting for

Paraiso has always had a rough attacker experience, and Season 4 is finally doing something about it. The Rio-based Hybrid map gets new high-ground access and flanking routes added across all three points, which should meaningfully reduce the chokepoint pressure that defenders have historically exploited.

The changes go beyond gameplay, too. Point 1 gets a rooftop converted into a pool (with an elevator to reach it), a new left-side spawn route, and a large statue of Domina placed at the objective. Point 2 opens up with expanded buildings and elevation access. Point 3 removes the Defender high ground on Club Synesthesia, which is a meaningful competitive adjustment, and adds a Lucio-reactive dance floor that responds when he drops the beat. New music runs through Points 2 and 3 as well.

Here's the thing: pulling the Defender advantage off Club Synesthesia alone changes how teams approach the final push. That spot has been a problem for attackers since the map launched.

Eichenwalde gets the attacker-friendly treatment

Eichenwalde has been notoriously Defender-sided since its introduction, and the Season 4 adjustments are clearly designed to chip away at that. Point 1 gains a new elevated position just outside Attacker spawn, complete with an elevator, plus extended platforms on both flanks. Point 2 adds a staircase to the wooden ramp on the fort and a jump pad on the right-side bridge platform, with a new window letting players shoot through the grills at enemies on that pad.

Point 3 changes are smaller: the final Defender spawn room positions are slightly adjusted and a new elevated window is added to that room. Not massive, but every bit of spawn timing and sightline control matters at the final point.

The jump pad addition at Eichenwalde Point 2 introduces a new window that lets players damage enemies mid-air. You will want to learn that angle fast, both to use it and to avoid it.

Busan ties the map to the Junker storyline

Busan's rework is where the lore integration is most visible. The Junkers have clearly made their mark on Seoul, and the map's three sections each reflect that in different ways.

In Downtown, the tower at the capture point has been redesigned to look like it has been claimed by the Junkers, and a jump pad has been added inside it. Some areas have been expanded to reduce choke potential, and certain long sightlines have been cut. A Jiggly Pig now sits on one side of the map, mirroring the existing Jiggly Cow.

Sanctuary gets updated trees and foliage to match the summer season, a new mineral spring on one side of the capture point offering a Large Health Pack, and a new window from the Tiger spawn room overlooking the objective. On the far horizon, the Junker mothership is now visible. That is a lore detail, but it sets the stage for what Season 4 is clearly building toward.

MEKA Base sees the experimental EMP removed from the Training Room spawn area and a new flanking route added on the right side of the other spawn room. With a new Korean MEKA pilot hero reportedly teased for an August 6 reveal, expect this section of the map to carry extra narrative weight heading into the season.

What this means for how the game plays

Taken together, these three reworks represent a genuine effort to address maps that players and the competitive community have flagged as structurally unbalanced. Paraiso and Eichenwalde both skewed heavily toward defenders, and the new routes plus high-ground additions give attackers more viable paths without completely overhauling the maps' identities.

Busan's changes are more nuanced. The Downtown sightline reductions and choke expansion touch on a map that has always had contested flow, while the Sanctuary health pack addition could shift how teams rotate around the point.

Season 4 launches August 11. If you want to get ahead on everything else dropping with the new season, the Overwatch guides collection has you covered on heroes, perks, and more.
