Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Collector's Box revealed, Pre-Orders now live | AltChar

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is the latest entry in the franchise that grew out of A Plague Tale: Innocence, and completionists are already digging into its collectible system from the very first chapter. Blood Ties, the opening chapter, sets the tone for the whole game, and it turns out the collectible count here is lean: just 2 items spread across four sub-chapters.

That number is low by design. The opening chapter is mostly about orientation, introducing players to the new setting and mechanics before the game opens up. But those 2 collectibles still count toward 100% completion, so missing them matters.

What Blood Ties actually contains

Chapter 1 breaks into four sub-chapters: A New Home, Faro's Cabin, The Search for the Key, and The Fighting Pit. Two of those four sub-chapters contain zero collectibles. The action is concentrated in sub-chapters 1 and 3.

Here's the full breakdown:

The Rusty Sword is a blade that unlocks automatically as a story-related item the moment you start the game. No action needed, it just registers in the chapter tracker.

The Handled Cross is where players can actually miss something. When sub-chapter 3 begins, you find yourself in a desert environment. Moving forward into the courtyard, there are bodies on the ground. The artefact sits in the middle of that area, positioned directly under a white tree branch. It's easy to walk past if you're pushing toward the objective without scanning the environment.

Resonance Points do not carry over if you use chapter select to revisit Blood Ties. Everything else, including the Blade and the Artefact, can be retrieved through chapter select after the fact.

The collectible system and what it means for completionists

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy tracks three collectible types across its chapters: Blades, Artefacts, and Resonance Points. Blood Ties contributes one of each of the first two categories, and zero Resonance Points.

The key here is understanding which items are missable in a permanent sense. Because Resonance Points don't carry over on chapter select, any chapter containing them requires attention on the first pass. Blood Ties has none, which makes it one of the more forgiving chapters for completionists who are still finding their footing.

What most players miss is that the automatic blade unlock can create a false sense of security. You see the chapter tracker tick up on its own and assume you're good. The Handled Cross in sub-chapter 3 still requires active exploration, and the desert courtyard setting doesn't exactly scream "collectible nearby" on first glance.

Building out from Chapter 1

Blood Ties is just the start. The full collectible run across Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy gets considerably more involved as later chapters introduce more sub-sections and higher item counts. Chapter 2: Felons is the immediate next step, and the density picks up from there.

For players who want to track everything across the full game, the A Plague Tale: Innocence guides collection has been expanding with Legacy content, and the broader gaming guides hub covers the wider franchise if you're coming in fresh from the original game.

Blood Ties is a clean start. Two collectibles, one of which grabs itself. The Handled Cross under that white tree branch is the only real test of attention in the entire opening chapter.
