Roblox Grow a Garden Sees 16 Million CCUs

Roblox's Grow a Garden recently hit 16.4 million concurrent users (CCUs), setting a new record for the highest number of simultaneous players in a video game. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by Fortnite during its Galactus live event in November 2020. The achievement places Grow a Garden at the top of the list of the most played video games of all time based on peak concurrent player count. The number of players recorded exceeds the peak in-game concurrent users on Steam and is several times higher than the typical CCU levels seen on PlayStation. Justin Yuan shared the news on LinkedIn.

Grow A Garden's player count exploded after Splitting Point Studios acquired the title. The remote-first Roblox development team, led by Janzen "Jandel" Madsen and based in New Zealand, saw potential in the game when it was pulling around 1,000 concurrent users under its original creator, BMWLux. BMWLux, a solo developer, still contributes to the creative side of the project.

Splitting Point Studios shifted most of its resources to the game after the acquisition. Around 12 of the studio's 19 developers were assigned to Grow A Garden. The team made updates based on player feedback and focused on features that would keep players coming back. Splitting Point Studios has a track record with successful games on Roblox, including Gunfight Arena and A Dusty Trip, both of which have racked up hundreds of millions of visits. That experience helped them scale Grow A Garden quickly.

Grow a Garden now sits at the top of the all-time peak concurrent user rankings. It has beaten major titles like Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), and Crossfire. The fact that a Roblox-based game holds this record shows how much user-generated gaming platforms have grown and how alternative game ecosystems are becoming more relevant.

What makes Grow A Garden so appealing?

Grow A Garden uses offline progression. Your garden keeps growing even when you're not playing. This mechanic is standard in mobile games but rare on Roblox. It gives players a reason to check back regularly, which aligns with how Roblox wants users to engage with its platform.

The game is also non-competitive and relaxing. Most Roblox titles lean into PvP or fast action. Grow A Garden lets players progress at their own speed without pressure. That casual approach has pulled in a wide range of ages.

Final thoughts

Grow a Garden has become the most played video game in history by peak concurrent users, hitting 16.4 million players. A 16-year-old solo creator built the game on Roblox. Its success shows how much weight user-generated content and independent development carry in today's gaming landscape. The record Grow a Garden set is a clear sign of how player engagement is shifting across the industry.
