WoW Forever's leveling overhaul is substantial: more than a thousand new quests, buildable campfires with profession buffs, new travel routes, a brand-new zone called the Riverglades, and nine new dungeons. Blizzard laid it all out in its leveling video on 9 October. Currently leveling an Undead Paladin in the beta, and of everything shown in that video, campfires are the feature that comes up most in actual play.
Here's what's new, how campfires work, and what the experience looks like so far at level 21.
What's New About Leveling in WoW Forever?
Quite a lot. Blizzard confirms there are "more than a thousand new quests" spread across Azeroth. Every race's starting zone receives new quests, and familiar zones like the Wetlands get entirely new questlines. There are new pets to discover and class-specific weapon quests woven into the journey.
The world itself is also expanding:
- A new zone, the Riverglades, has been added to the Eastern Kingdoms
- Nine new dungeons, including a troll dungeon called the Drowned City off the coast of Stranglethorn
- All classic dungeons are getting a full reward refresh with new and improved items
- New travel options include a boat stop in Hillsbrad and the addition of Stormwind Harbor
How Do Campfires Work in WoW Forever?
Campfires are introduced early. Around level 5, a quest called The Great Outdoors asks you to sit at a campfire, then sends you to train Cooking so you can build your own, per WoW Forever Guides' camping page. A Basic Campfire lets you rest and gives you access to vendors, repairs, profession workspaces, and one-hour buffs.
Each campfire can hold up to three crafted objects , one per player , on a one-hour cooldown. Every profession can contribute a camp object, per Warcraft Tavern, and anyone who sits at the fire for about a minute receives that object's buff. Some examples:
| Profession | Camp Object | Buff |
|---|---|---|
| Blacksmith | Sharpening Wheel | Attack power |
| Herbalist | Incense Candle | Intellect |
| Alchemist | Mana Well | Mana regeneration |
Are Campfires Worth Using?
Absolutely. Every campfire encountered gets used , an add-on even flags when one hasn't been visited recently. Blizzard is clearly pushing campfires as a core part of the leveling loop: the introductory quest explains the system thoroughly, highlighting what each profession brings to the fire. It's a deliberate effort to get players engaged with the mechanic.
Is There a Boat to Hillsbrad in WoW Forever?
Yes. Blizzard's video shows a new stop on the shipping route between the Wetlands and Darkshore that lets players hop off in Hillsbrad, making travel between major zones smoother. For anyone questing out of Tarren Mill, this is a genuinely useful addition that wasn't there before.
Are the New Quests Any Good?
So far, mixed. There's plenty of content, but nothing has delivered a standout moment yet. The highlight so far is a quest involving wave-based combat inside a building , a format that made an otherwise difficult quest feel achievable and satisfying. The content tied to the first dungeon above Undercity also impressed.
Dungeons are where much of the new content shines. With nine new ones in total, there's a lot to explore , and the City of Dalaran dungeon opened in the beta this week.
What Is the Riverglades in WoW Forever?
The Riverglades is a new zone in the Eastern Kingdoms, built from a section of the classic map that was always visible but never accessible. It sits adjacent to the Burning Steppes, Redridge Mountains, and Swamp of Sorrows, and Blizzard targets it at the mid-30s to mid-40s level range, per WoW Forever Guides' Riverglades page. The zone also has its own dungeon, Krol'dok Stronghold, designed for levels 40 to 45.
The story experience differs by faction:
- Alliance players work alongside the Brotherhood of the Horse, a faction returning from Warcraft's past
- Horde players build relationships with a new faction, the Boulder Rock ogre clan
At level 21, the Riverglades is still a long way off. Once the mid-30s arrive, that's where the journey heads next , as a Paladin chosen while coming back to WoW. In the meantime, time has been split with running the GGX-18 in WARDOGS, so leveling has taken a back seat lately.
