To progress through Phantom Blade Zero, follow the main entries in the Story tab, collect the traversal tools tied to campaign encounters, and check quest deadlines before changing regions. After the opening sequences, your route begins in Weeping Creek Valley, continues through Crimson Forest and the Village of Lu, and eventually reaches Mount Soulrend.
Several transitions depend on specific items. Lei Dang must repair Dormant Flaming Mane, while the Serpent relics and Loong Emblem open the route into Mirage Estate. This walkthrough keeps those requirements together so you can find your next objective without spoiling the ending.
How to use this spoiler-aware walkthrough
This launch walkthrough uses the nine main Quest Log entries as its campaign checklist. The opening sequences, Diverging Paths and Reckless Pursuit, come before Against the Flow, so start with the opening section if you have not reached Weeping Creek Valley yet.
The Story tab also contains Mysteries. Those investigations can lead to substantial areas and rewards, but they are separate from the main objective sequence. Tales and Collectibles have their own Quest Log sections.
- Match your current main entry to the story-order table.
- Check the relevant regional notes before defeating its major bosses.
- Use the route-blocker table when a chain, distant anchor point, or bramble barrier stops you.
- Check the final preparation section before entering Mirage Estate, not just before Mount Soulrend.
Route, item, and boss-name spoilers follow. Final story outcomes are left out.

Weeping Creek story tracking
Opening objectives and first major destination
What happens before Weeping Creek Valley?
Diverging Paths introduces Soul, Zuo Shang, and the Flesh Sculptor's heart choice. Soul receives the Tainted Heart before the story moves into Reckless Pursuit, which includes the wagon escape and the first encounter with The Hunt.
Your first major regional objective is Against the Flow in Weeping Creek Valley. Its important progression encounter is Peng Meng, whose defeat awards the Dread Axe and lets you continue toward the Great Waterfall.
What should you check before leaving the valley?
Weeping Creek Valley introduces requests that matter beyond the region. Speak to Yu'er and the friendly Shadow Warden rather than treating every NPC conversation as background dialogue.
- Apprentice Healer: Gather Blood-Stopper Vine, Congealeaf, and Blemish Goldweed for Yu'er. Its Medicine Case reward increases medicine healing by 20%, making it a useful priority if healing is your main problem.
- A Severed Mindseal: Collect the first Primal Stone and hand it to the Shadow Warden before leaving Weeping Creek Valley. The full quest involves four stones across later regions.
- Purge the Sect: Help the Old Archer and return the Broken-String Feather Bow for Feather Bow (Night Owl). This is an optional weapon detour, not your next campaign objective.
For an exploration detour in this region, use the Deep in the Valley walkthrough. That Mystery leads into an optional canyon with enemies and concealed loot.
Main objectives in story order
Use these names to identify your next campaign step in the Quest Log. The table focuses on the action that advances each entry, rather than every encounter or reward along the way.
| Main objective | What moves the story forward? |
|---|---|
| Against the Flow | Defeat Peng Meng in Weeping Creek Valley, obtain Dread Axe, and continue toward the Great Waterfall. |
| Steel and Steam | Defeat The Hunt at the Great Waterfall and obtain Hunter's Chain Sickle before continuing toward Crimson Forest. |
| Snake's Reflection | Progress through Crimson Forest and its Bai Chilian encounter, then reach the Village of Lu. |
| Heartless Remnants | Explore the underground Puppet Workshop, defeat Mu Xiaokui, and unlock the Smuggler's Tunnel. |
| Town of Death | Explore Pangzhen and meet Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall. |
| The Heart's Trail | Defeat Flame, the Lion Dance Grandmaster, obtain Dormant Flaming Mane, and have Lei Dang repair it. |
| The Four Serpent Houses | Collect the Serpent relics and Loong Emblem across Pangzhen, Meigu Lake, the Village of Lu, and Crimson Forest to open Mirage Estate's route. |
| The Way Forward | Obtain the Opera Ticket, enter the Opera House, and continue the investigation involving the Perfect Vessel and Radiant Heart. |
| A Soul's Worth | Continue through Mount Soulrend and confront the Order's leaders. |
What should you finish before clearing Crimson Forest?
Jing Ye, the Outlaw, and Bai Chilian are important quest deadlines. Finish Apprentice Healer's herb-gathering objective before defeating Jing Ye, even though Yu'er first gives you work in Weeping Creek Valley.
Before defeating Bai Chilian, check these additional requests:
- Flesh Lily: Give the Flesh Lily to Yu'er for the quest's first objective. Its later Pangzhen follow-up must be finished before progressing to the Training Grounds.
- A Healer's Mercy: Give Yu'er's medicine to all four wounded thieves, then report back to her.
- Secrets of the Baishan Sect: Speak to the sisters near the bridge to start the quest. Starting it before Bai Chilian preserves access to the storyline leading to Baishan Stormswords and Baishan Headband.
Yu'er's three quests, Flesh Lily, Apprentice Healer, and A Healer's Mercy, also contribute to The Healer's Legacy trophy and its combined rewards, including the Blessed Jade Pendant.
What must you do in the Village of Lu?
During Heartless Remnants, your main destination is the underground Puppet Workshop. Defeating Mu Xiaokui unlocks the Smuggler's Tunnel, but a collectible objective changes what you can earn during her encounter.
Complete Young Mistress by examining Mu Xiaokui's ribbon before fighting her. This unlocks an additional boss phase and rewards that include Fiend Saws and Fist Fragment: Core.
Before entering Pangzhen, accept The Journey Home from Old Man Gen and report your progress after clearing the Smuggler's Tunnel. You must also speak to Lan Shaodi and accept Young Master Lan before entering Pangzhen.
The Journey Home eventually awards the War Wagon Phantom Edge. Young Master Lan leads to Crimson Resolve, so these conversations matter if you are collecting equipment as well as following the campaign.
What opens the route through Pangzhen?
Start Town of Death by exploring Pangzhen and meeting Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall. During The Heart's Trail, defeat Flame, the Lion Dance Grandmaster, to receive Dormant Flaming Mane.
Take that item to Lei Dang. He repairs it into the Flaming Mane Phantom Edge, which burns away bramble barriers. The boss reward needs that repair step before it becomes your exploration tool.

Flaming Mane clears brambles
The Four Serpent Houses then sends you through several regions to collect the Serpent relics and Loong Emblem. Those items open the route into Mirage Estate; the Opera Ticket is the separate requirement for entering the Opera House during The Way Forward.
Required encounters and route blockers
Which encounters unlock exploration tools?
Three campaign rewards explain several blocked paths: Dread Axe, Hunter's Chain Sickle, and Flaming Mane. Match the obstacle to the tool before searching the same corridor again.
| Obstacle | Tool you need | How you obtain it |
|---|---|---|
| Breakable chains | Dread Axe | Defeat Peng Meng during Against the Flow. |
| Distant grapple anchor points | Hunter's Chain Sickle | Defeat The Hunt at the Great Waterfall during Steel and Steam. |
| Bramble barriers | Flaming Mane | Defeat Flame, then have Lei Dang repair Dormant Flaming Mane. |

Dread Axe breaks sealed chains
Revisit earlier routes after obtaining these tools. Dread Axe and Hunter's Chain Sickle both support backtracking, while Flaming Mane opens paths blocked by brambles.
How do you enable boat traversal at Meigu Lake?
Sha-Chi Powered Boat has its own requirements: find the Boat Master's mechanical boat, obtain two Transcension Cores, and install them. Completing those steps unlocks boat traversal across Meigu Lake.
If you are still trying to reach the lake itself, follow the Meigu Lake route guide. Once you arrive, use Sha-Chi Powered Boat to track the boat's requirements separately from your current campaign entry.
Finding the next objective when you are stuck
What should you check first?
Open the Quest Log and identify which main entry you are following. A Mystery such as Deep in the Valley or Illusion of Inanis can pull you into an optional storyline while the campaign objective remains unfinished.
Work through this checklist before searching for another route:
- Check the main entry in Story. Use the story-order table to identify its required encounter, item, or destination.
- Revisit the relevant NPC conversation. Speak about every available topic. NPC dialogue can start Tales and collectible requests, and Lei Dang's Flaming Mane repair is a specific progression step.
- Identify the obstacle. Chains, grapple anchors, and brambles point to different tools. Reaching the obstacle does not mean you already have its solution.
- Inspect chests along the route. Chests can contain Story Items, accessories, treasures, and upgrade materials.
If Pangzhen's brambles are stopping you, check the Flaming Mane repair step. If you are approaching Mirage Estate, check the Serpent relics and Loong Emblem instead. Those are different requirements, even though both occur during the broader Pangzhen portion of the story.
Should you follow every Mystery immediately?
Prioritize Mysteries that serve your current goal. Illusion of Inanis awards Inanis' Radiant Fan, while restoring the Illusory Pipa opens the Spectral Gate leading to the Mountain of Imprisonment.
For a direct campaign run, keep your main entry visible in the Quest Log. For the True Ending, plan around Secrets at the Heart of the Lake and Bloodline Awakening before their deadlines.
Preparing for the final story sequence
What needs finishing before Mirage Estate?
Your ending preparation begins before Mirage Estate, not only when A Soul's Worth takes you to Mount Soulrend. Secrets at the Heart of the Lake requires you to follow Firefly's Memory Flowers, defeat four hidden Acolytes, unlock the Forbidden Ruins, and destroy the ritual at the Heart of the Lake.
Destroy that ritual before entering Mirage Estate and advancing the Meigu Lake storyline. Quick Hand's Request has a later cutoff: deliver its five regional treasure lists before finishing Mirage Estate.
Which deadlines matter for the final ascent?
Bloodline Awakening requires all five Lóng Pillar trials and awards Infernal Rouge. It is also a True Ending requirement, alongside Secrets at the Heart of the Lake.
| Before this milestone | Finish this objective | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Entering Mirage Estate and advancing the Meigu Lake storyline | Destroy the Heart of the Lake ritual. | Secrets at the Heart of the Lake is required for the True Ending. |
| Finishing Mirage Estate | Deliver all five regional treasure lists for Quick Hand's Request. | Its rewards include Goldblaze, Flying Dagger, and Quick Hand Pendant. |
| Final ascent to Soulrend Cliff | Complete all five Lóng Pillar trials for Bloodline Awakening. | Unlocks Infernal Rouge and fulfills a True Ending requirement. |
| Final showdown at Soulrend Cliff | Finish the Human-Faced Banyan challenges for Heart of the Banyan. | Unlocks The Banyan's Heart ability for Ability Training. |

Finish all five pillar trials
Common mistakes
- Leaving the first Primal Stone delivery until later: A Severed Mindseal requires that initial handover before you leave Weeping Creek Valley.
- Defeating Mu Xiaokui before examining her ribbon: Young Mistress must be completed first to unlock the additional phase and its rewards.
- Stopping at Dormant Flaming Mane: Return to Lei Dang for the repair before trying to burn brambles.
- Starting ending cleanup at Mount Soulrend: Secrets at the Heart of the Lake has an earlier deadline tied to entering Mirage Estate.
Pro tips
Prioritize quests that solve your current problem
If healing is holding you back, Apprentice Healer is worth prioritizing because Medicine Case increases medicine healing by 20%. If you want another ranged weapon option, Purge the Sect awards Feather Bow (Night Owl).
For Soul Temper objectives, track the specific item rather than expecting a finished weapon. Heart of the Fist awards Worldbreaker Fist for Iron Gauntlets, while The Undying Heroic Spirit awards Hero's Courage for Swordsman's Summon.
Recheck dialogue and routes after major unlocks
Speak about every available NPC topic before moving on, especially around the Village of Lu's Pangzhen-bound quests. After obtaining Dread Axe, Hunter's Chain Sickle, or Flaming Mane, revisit earlier blocked routes while those obstacles are still easy to remember.
