Solarpunk Progression Guide (First Island)

Carrots are one of those resources in Solarpunk that sneak up on you. You need them for a Traderbot trade, you need them to research the Pig Shelter, and you need them as one of five crops to unlock the Seedspack at tier 6. That's a lot of pressure on a vegetable. Here's exactly where to find every Carrot spawn and how to keep them coming once the initial supply runs dry.

Where do Carrots spawn in Solarpunk?

Carrots only appear on the three new islands that open up once you reach the Airship level 3 upgrade. There's one island to the northeast, one to the northwest, and one directly south of your starting island. The southern island is the one worth prioritizing: it has 5 Carrot spawns clustered together, which makes it the fastest single location to stock up.

The northeast and northwest islands each have fewer spawns, so treat them as bonus pickups rather than your main source. When you fly to the southern island, plan your inventory around it. That island also has 2 Cotton spawns, 1 Watermelon spawn, a couple of Sunflowers, a Cobalt node you can drill, two chests, and even a pig you can transport back. Go light on materials (Wood, Sticks, Rocks, and your Pickaxe) so you have room to carry everything useful.

What do you need Carrots for?

The demand hits fast and from multiple directions at once. Here's a breakdown of the immediate Carrot requirements:

The 20x Carrot trade hits right after you get the Airship level 3 upgrade from the Traderbot, so you're racing to collect them almost immediately. The 5x Carrot requirement for the Pig Shelter is what opens up Truffle production and pushes you toward tier 7 at the Research Table and the Airship level 4 upgrade. The three islands combined might not cover all of this in one trip, especially if you're also trying to hold some back for the Seedspack.

How to farm unlimited Carrots with the Seedspack

The three island spawns are a one-time supply. Once you've picked them, you need a sustainable system. That system is the Seedspack, researched at the tier 6 Research Table.

To unlock it, you need one of each of these five crops:

  • 1x Raspberry
  • 1x Cotton
  • 1x Wheat
  • 1x Carrot
  • 1x Sunflower

The Carrot and Sunflower both come from the new islands after Airship level 3, so you'll be collecting them on the same run. Raspberry, Cotton, and Wheat should already be in your inventory by this point from earlier progression.

Once the Seedspack is researched, you can convert produce into seeds at a 4:1 ratio. Four Carrots craft one Carrot Seed. Plant that seed, harvest the crop, and repeat. The math compounds quickly: a small starting supply becomes self-sustaining within a few harvests. This same system applies to every other crop going forward, so unlocking it is one of the highest-value research moves in the game.

How does Carrot farming connect to the rest of your progression?

Carrots sit at the intersection of two major progression paths: the animal farm and the Airship upgrade chain. The Pig Shelter requires 5 Carrots to research and unlocks Truffle production, which feeds into tier 7 Research Table access and the Airship level 4 upgrade. Without Truffle, that progression stalls.

The Seedspack itself is also the unlock that makes your entire crop operation sustainable, not just for Carrots but for Wheat, Cotton, Sunflower, and Raspberry too. Wheat in particular becomes a bottleneck earlier in the game because Chickens consume Animal Feed quickly and you need Eggs to reach Airship level 3 in the first place. Getting the Seedspack sorted as soon as you hit tier 6 removes that pressure permanently.

For players working through the full resource chain, the Solarpunk guides collection covers everything from Silicon to Cotton to animal taming in the same detail as this one.

Airship level 3 trade requirements

If you haven't hit Airship level 3 yet, here's the full Traderbot trade sequence you need to complete before any Carrot islands become accessible:

  • 4x Watermelon
  • 12x Cotton
  • 20x Beeswax
  • 10x Watermelon
  • 32x Copper
  • 5x Silicon
  • 10x Wheat
  • 20x Cloth
  • 10x Bread
  • 6x Egg

That last trade (6x Egg) is the one that unlocks Airship level 3. Eggs come from Chickens, and Chickens need Animal Feed made from Wheat. The Wheat guide in the Solarpunk strategy guides has the full breakdown on managing that supply without running out before you finish the Bread trade.

Solarpunk sits comfortably in the adventure games space, and its resource loop is tighter than it first appears. Carrots look like a minor crop until they're suddenly blocking three different upgrades at once. Get to the southern island first, save enough for the Pig Shelter, and prioritize the Seedspack at tier 6. That sequence keeps the progression moving without any painful restarts.
