Wheat is one of those resources in Solarpunk that looks simple on paper but quietly controls a huge chunk of your mid-game progression. You need it for Research Table upgrades, Animal Feed, Bread trades, and keeping your chickens alive long enough to actually produce Eggs. The catch is that you cannot pick up a single stalk until you have upgraded your Airship, which means there is a specific sequence of trades and crafts you need to nail before any of this comes together.

Wheat island map overview
How do you get Wheat in Solarpunk?
Wheat does not spawn on your starter island. To reach the islands where it grows, your Airship needs to be at level 2. Getting there requires completing a series of trades with the Tradebots in a specific order. Here is the full trade sequence you need to work through:
- 4x Watermelon
- 12x Cotton
- 20x Beeswax
- 10x Watermelon
- 32x Copper (this final trade unlocks the Airship level 2 research upgrade)
Once the Airship hits level 2, two island groups become reachable: a larger island to the northeast and a cluster of three smaller islands to the northwest.
Where are all the Wheat locations?
Northeast island
This is the bigger of the two accessible areas and holds 4 Wheat nodes total.
- Land your Airship on the southern side of the island to grab the first node immediately.
- Head toward the small pool near the center. The second Wheat sits right beside it.
- Follow the path south of the pool upward to the eastern side of the island for the third node.
- The fourth node sits on a higher platform to the southeast. You can fly the Airship directly to that elevated section rather than climbing.
Northwest tri-island cluster
This group of three smaller islands holds 3 Wheat nodes.
- On the top-right island of the cluster, two Wheat nodes grow right next to each other.
- The larger island to the left of the cluster has one more node in its center.
That gives you roughly 7 Wheat nodes across both areas on your first visit. Each node drops 1x Wheat and 1x Wheat Seed, so you leave with both the resource and the means to grow more.

What do you use Wheat for in Solarpunk?
Wheat pulls triple duty once you unlock it, and each use competes for the same limited supply in the early game.
How to make Bread in Solarpunk
Unlocking the Dough recipe happens automatically when you pick up your first Wheat. To make Bread:
- Combine 3x Wheat at the Crafting Bench to produce 1x Dough.
- Place the Dough in a Furnace with fuel to bake it into 1x Bread.
The Tradebot requires 10x Bread for a blueprint trade. That means you need at least 30x Wheat just to clear this one obligation. Plan accordingly before you start feeding animals.

How do you build a self-sustaining Wheat farm?
The wild nodes are a starting point, not a long-term solution. Here is the path to a farm that actually keeps up with your needs.
Step 1: Complete the priority trades first. Finish the 10x Wheat Tradebot trade and the 30x Wheat needed for Bread before you feed a single chicken. This takes several in-game days, possibly a real-world week of play.
Step 2: Stockpile before feeding animals. Once trades are done, accumulate at least 12 to 14 Wheat before you start placing Animal Feed in Feeding Troughs. If you have two chickens, stockpile even more or temporarily move one chicken out of the feeding area. Chickens need their hunger meter to reach 10/10 to produce Eggs, and if your supply runs out mid-cycle you get nothing.
Step 3: Unlock the Seedspack research. This is the real fix. Reach tier 6 at the Research Table to unlock the Seedspack upgrade. The Seedspack lets you convert produce into seeds, which removes the supply ceiling entirely. To craft it, you need:
- 1x Raspberry
- 1x Cotton
- 1x Wheat
- 1x Carrot
- 1x Sunflower
Carrots and Sunflowers become available on the new islands unlocked after upgrading the Airship to level 3, which requires 6x Eggs as a trade item. So the progression loop is: get Wheat, feed chickens, collect Eggs, unlock more islands, get Carrots and Sunflowers, craft Seedspack, multiply Wheat indefinitely.
Step 4: Plant every seed. Once you have the Seedspack, focus on multiplying your Wheat Seeds in farming plots near your base. Each planted Wheat Seed yields 1x Wheat and 1x Wheat Seed on harvest, so your plots grow in coverage over time as long as you replant everything.

Wheat farming order of operations
To avoid the most common mistake (burning Wheat on Animal Feed before trades are done), follow this sequence:
- Complete all Tradebot trades requiring Wheat (10x Wheat trade, then 10x Bread trade)
- Stockpile 12 to 14 Wheat minimum
- Start feeding one chicken at a time
- Collect 6x Eggs to unlock Airship level 3
- Explore new islands for Carrots and Sunflowers
- Reach Research Table tier 6 and craft the Seedspack
- Scale up farming plots and multiply Wheat Seeds freely
