TBH: Task Bar Hero Systems Guide ...

Inscription and Removal are the final two Cube mechanics you'll unlock in TBH: Task Bar Hero, and they're the ones that separate casual upgraders from players who actually know what they're doing. Inscription lands at Cube level 25 and is gated behind high-tier gear, while Removal unlocks at level 10 as the safety net for everything that came before it. Get both right and your endgame gear becomes genuinely powerful. Get them wrong and you'll burn rare materials on items you'll vendor a week later.

What is Inscription in TBH: Task Bar Hero?

Inscription is the third socket enhancement type in the Cube, sitting alongside Decorations and Engravings but arriving much later in your progression. It unlocks at Cube level 25, making it the last Cube feature you'll access in the game.

The key restriction here is gear grade. Only Arcana grade gear and above supports Inscription Slots, so this system is entirely irrelevant until you've pushed deep into the game's progression. The exception is if you pick up a lucky high-grade drop early or source something through the Steam Market.

What stats does Inscription give you?

Inscription Materials provide a wide range of stat boosts, which makes them applicable across every class and build. The trade-off is reliability. Like Decorations and Engravings, Inscription rolls are RNG-based, but the variance here is even higher. You're rolling for a specific stat from a large pool, and there's no guarantee you'll land what you want on the first attempt.

The numbers themselves are strong compared to other socket enhancements, which is why the system exists at this tier of gear. The payoff for a good roll is real, but so is the cost of chasing it.

Is Inscription worth it for your gear?

Think of Inscription as a min-max layer rather than a core progression step. It won't carry you through the mid-game, but on a piece of Arcana gear you've already committed to, a well-rolled Inscription is a meaningful stat boost. The problem is getting there.

Multiple attempts to land the right roll are common, and each attempt costs a material. Plan for that cost before you start, and only Inscribe gear you're confident will stay in your loadout.

What is Removal in TBH: Task Bar Hero?

Removal unlocks at Cube level 10 and works as a reset tool for Decorations, Engravings, and Inscriptions. If you rolled a bad stat or want to swap an enhancement out for something more useful, Removal wipes the slot clean so you can try again.

The catch is that Removal does not return your materials. Whatever you applied to the item is gone permanently. Removal also costs gold on top of that, so every use is a double expense: the gold to remove, and the new material to re-apply.

When should you actually use Removal?

Removal has three practical uses:

  • You rolled an unwanted stat and want to try for a better one
  • You're swapping your build and need different stat types on existing gear
  • You want to make an item tradable on the marketplace (applied enhancements can affect tradeability)

Outside of those scenarios, Removal is a resource sink with no upside. The less you need it, the better your planning was upfront.

Inscription vs Removal: how they interact

These two mechanics are directly linked. Inscription is how you add high-tier stats to endgame gear, and Removal is how you undo a bad roll. In practice, you'll use Removal most often when an Inscription roll misses the mark.

The table makes one thing clear: no Cube enhancement returns materials when removed. Plan every application like it's permanent, because financially it is.

How to use Inscription and Removal efficiently

Build around gear you're keeping

Before applying any Inscription, ask whether the item will still be in your build 10+ hours from now. Arcana gear is rare enough that the answer is often yes, but confirm it before spending materials. Checking the tips and tricks to progress faster can help you understand gear lifespan at each stage of the game.

Minimize Removal usage through upfront planning

The best way to reduce Removal costs is to be deliberate before you Inscribe. Know which stats your build actually wants. If you're unsure which stats matter most for your class, the classes and gear guide breaks down what each class prioritizes so you're not guessing when the Inscription window opens.

Treat marketplace items differently

Gear you're planning to sell should stay clean. No Decorations, Engravings, or Inscriptions. Applied enhancements interact with tradeability, and wasting rare Inscription Materials on an item you'll flip is a mistake that's easy to avoid.

Where Inscription fits in the full Cube system

Inscription is the capstone of the Cube's enhancement systems, but it doesn't exist in isolation. To get the most out of it, you need to understand how the earlier Cube features interact with your gear. The Cube Synthesis vs Alchemy guide covers the foundational crafting mechanics that set up the gear you'll eventually Inscribe, and it's worth reading before you reach the endgame tier.

For everything else across the game's systems, the full TBH: Task Bar Hero guide collection has you covered from Rune priorities through to party composition and beyond.
