The Ocarina of Time remake has the same 12 songs as the original, and you can now play them with buttons or by humming into the Switch 2 mic. Here's every song, its input, where you learn it and what it does.

Key takeaways

  • All 12 songs are back, taught by the same characters, with the same warp destinations.
  • On Switch 2 the notes are A, X, Y, L and R.
  • You can play by pressing buttons, humming into the Switch 2 microphone, or playing a real instrument.
  • You keep both the Fairy Ocarina and the Ocarina of Time, and a Songbook remembers every input for you.
  • Nintendo tried adding extra warp points, then removed them, so the six warp songs are still how you get around fast.

How do you play songs in the Ocarina of Time remake?

Same as before: pull out the ocarina and play the notes. The difference is how you can play them. The Nintendo store page says you can use the buttons, hum into the Switch 2's microphone, or play along on a real instrument. Nintendo's Ask the Developer interview says the voice option doesn't make progress any easier. It's there for fun, not as a shortcut.

I grew up on these games, and Ocarina of Time was a good one. Humming Saria's Song at your Switch is the first thing I'd try.

Two other changes help. You keep both the Fairy Ocarina and the Ocarina of Time in your inventory and pick which one to play. In the original, the Fairy Ocarina was swapped out. There's also a Songbook that stores each song's input, so you don't need to write them down. Nintendo Everything adds that you can skip the playback after a song, and Navi has her own little dance for each one.

That's 12 songs. The Scarecrow's Song is a 13th one that you make up yourself.

How do you get the Song of Storms?

The Song of Storms is the odd one. You learn it as adult Link from the man in the Kakariko windmill, then play it as young Link back in the same windmill. That drains the well, which opens the way into the Bottom of the Well. The input is L R X L R X.

It also makes it rain and shows hidden grottos. Game8's list of differences says the remake has more hidden holes than the original, and the Song of Storms reveals them, so it's worth playing in odd spots more than before. That comes from one guide, so it might not hold everywhere.

Where do you learn Saria's Song?

From Saria, after you've met Zelda at the castle. She teaches it to you at the forest clearing past the Lost Woods.

The name of that place is a bit of a mess right now. GameRant's Lost Woods guide and Game8's dungeon list call it the Sacred Grove, while their song guides still say the Sacred Forest Meadow. Go by what your map says.

Saria's Song does more than most people remember. Play it to Mido, to Darunia in Goron City, and to the Skull Kid in the Lost Woods. You can also play it anywhere to talk to Saria if you're stuck.

Do the warp songs still work in the remake?

Yes. All six warp songs take you to the same places as the original. Producer Eiji Aonuma said in Nintendo's Ask the Developer interview that the team tried adding extra warp points, then removed every one of them. His reason was that skipping the travel meant players missed small things along the way.

So the warp songs are still the only fast travel, and you'll use them a lot. TheGamer's Biggoron Sword guide notes one catch: you can't warp during the timed legs of the trading quest, so plan those runs on foot.

Sheik teaches all six as you go through the adult half of the game. The Serenade of Water comes after you pick up the Iron Boots, just before the Water Temple, which the remake also reworked.

What is the Scarecrow's Song?

It's a song you write yourself. As young Link, talk to the scarecrow Bonooru at Lake Hylia and play any eight notes, using at least two different ones. Come back as an adult and play the same tune to set it. After that, playing it in certain spots calls Pierre the scarecrow, who gives you something to Hookshot or Longshot onto.

Write it down, or check the Songbook.

Did the Lost Woods song game change?

A little. Game8 says the Skull Kid memory game in the Lost Woods now shows the notes on screen and doesn't care about rhythm, and the second round is only played once. That's from one guide, but if it's right, it's a lot easier than it used to be.

How many songs are in Ocarina of Time?

Twelve, the same as the original. There are six regular songs and six warp songs, and the custom Scarecrow's Song is on top of that.

If you're coming back after years away, the songs are one of the few things that didn't change at all. The inputs moved to new buttons, but the tunes, who teaches them and what they do are the same. If you're planning a full replay, our remake length guide covers how long it takes.
