The Lullaby quest in Valor Mortis is one of the more unsettling side quests in the Fallen Village chapter. You walk into an abandoned house, hear a ghostly baby crying from a bloody crib, and suddenly you have a new mission. The good news: it's completable entirely within Chapter 3, the reward is genuinely useful, and the steps are straightforward once you know where to look.

What is the Lullaby quest and where does it start?

The quest triggers in the Fallen Village chapter, specifically in a house just to the left of the Marketplace lantern. Head inside, move past the crib in the center of the main room, and the crying sound will kick off the sidequest automatically. You don't need to interact with anything specific — just being in the right room is enough to get it started.

Before heading out the back door, note that a group of enemies is waiting in the garden. They go down without much trouble, especially if you have the shotgun picked up from the carriage earlier in this area.

How to get the Weathered Key

After triggering the quest, go through the back door of the house into the garden area. Defeat the enemies there and pick up the Weathered Key from the ground. This key is the only way to access the locked door you need later, so don't leave the area without grabbing it.

Once you have the key, return to the Marketplace lantern and rest. This resets the area enemies and gives you a clean run for the next leg of the quest.

How to find the Doll (Toy location)

From the Marketplace lantern, backtrack through the carriage into the area you came from. On the other side, you'll encounter a large, powerful enemy called the Volunteer. You can fight or ignore him, then take the path on the right and continue through the village enemies.

Keep moving until you reach a broken bridge. Cross it and approach the house in the distance. Use the Weathered Key on the locked door to get inside. The Doll (also referred to as the Toy in some quest log entries) is on the bed inside the house. Pick it up to update the quest.

How to complete the Lullaby quest

With the Doll in hand, retrace your steps all the way back to the original house with the crib. Interact with the crib to place the Doll inside. The baby's spirit goes quiet, the quest completes, and William receives the Tomorrow's Promise Amber as a reward.

  1. Activate the Marketplace lantern in Fallen Village.
  2. Enter the house to the left of the blue grapple jump.
  3. Move past the empty crib to trigger the Lullaby quest.
  4. Exit through the back door and defeat the garden enemies.
  5. Pick up the Weathered Key from the ground.
  6. Rest at the Marketplace lantern.
  7. Backtrack through the carriage and past the Volunteer enemy.
  8. Cross the broken bridge and approach the locked house.
  9. Use the Weathered Key to open the door.
  10. Grab the Doll from the bed inside.
  11. Return to the crib and place the Doll to finish the quest.

What does Tomorrow's Promise do?

The Tomorrow's Promise Amber changes how William's Ferrofluid Flask works. Here's the full breakdown:

AmberEffect
Tomorrow's PromiseThe Ferrofluid Flask grants health regeneration over time instead of an immediate heal. Activating a second flask while the effect is active resets the timer rather than stacking the duration.

The trade-off is meaningful. You give up the instant burst of healing in exchange for more total health recovery over a longer window. In tense fights where you need immediate health to survive a hit, this can feel punishing. In slower, more manageable encounters, the extended regeneration often outperforms the instant heal.

Whether this fits your playstyle depends on how aggressive you are with the Ferrofluid Flask. If you tend to panic-heal mid-combo, the immediate heal is safer. If you manage resources carefully, Tomorrow's Promise offers better value over the course of a fight.

The Lullaby quest itself is not required for any trophy or achievement, but the Amber is a legitimate upgrade path worth considering for certain builds.
