Witchspire Beta on Playtester

Loof Horns are one of those resources in Witchspire that the game never explains clearly, but you'll hit a wall without them. Specifically, you need them to push your Hearth to level 5, which gates a meaningful chunk of mid-tier crafting upgrades in your Luminary tree. The problem is that Loof Horns don't come from any plant or ore node. They drop from a specific creature type, and tracking those creatures down takes some legwork.

What drops Loof Horns in Witchspire?

Loof Horns are dropped exclusively by Granloof creatures. Granloofs are the larger, ox-like animals you'll encounter across Witchspire's world. They're distinct from the smaller Lamloofs that roam in groups nearby. The drop isn't guaranteed on every kill, so plan to fight several before your inventory fills up.

Where to find Granloofs in Witchspire

There are two main places to hunt Granloofs, and the one you go to first depends on how far into the game you are.

Trampling Grounds (starting island, Vyrs)

The earliest Granloofs appear near the Altar of Vyr in the Vyrs starting region, above the Froblin Camp and south of Mirella's Shop. These spawn alongside Etherits and are accessible before you've left the first island. The Granloofs here sit around level 8, so you don't need to be particularly powerful to engage them. That said, the drop rate means you'll want to clear the area repeatedly.

Eastell Peninsula (third major island)

Once you've moved through Timberline Basin and reached Eastell Peninsula, you'll find a higher concentration of Granloofs in the grasslands south of the Flight Pillar. These versions are level 27 and above, significantly tougher than their Vyrs counterparts. They regularly charge at you and throw out wide cone attacks made of rocks, so crowd control and positioning matter here.

How to beat Granloofs efficiently

Granloofs are not push-overs regardless of where you find them. Here's what to expect and how to handle the fight:

  • Charge attacks: Granloofs will close distance fast with a direct charge. Side-step early rather than rolling late.
  • Rock cone: Their ranged attack fans out in front of them. Getting to their flank removes this threat entirely.
  • Loof mob interference: In both Vyrs and Eastell, Lamloofs will join the fight. Kill them first every time.
  • Respawn exploit: If you die mid-fight, the Granloof's health does not reset. Set up a Hearth nearby and keep chipping away across multiple lives if needed.

What are Loof Horns used for?

The primary use for Loof Horns is upgrading your Hearth to level 5. That Hearth upgrade then opens up additional nodes in the Luminary tree, specifically the mid-tier crafting options that become relevant as you push into Eastell Peninsula content. Without hitting Hearth level 5, you'll find your progression stalling noticeably. If you want to understand the full Hearth and Luminary progression system, the Witchspire Hearth levels and Luminary Points guide breaks down exactly which nodes to prioritize so you stop getting blocked.

Should you farm Vyrs or Eastell first?

If you're still on the starting island and need Loof Horns for the Hearth upgrade, the Vyrs Granloofs near the Altar of Vyr are your best option. The level 8 enemies are manageable even at level 15 with enough healing supplies, and the Hearth respawn trick means a bad fight doesn't cost you all your progress.

Once you reach Eastell Peninsula naturally, the south-of-Flight-Pillar spawn becomes far more efficient for bulk farming. The enemies are harder, but there are more of them and the drop opportunities increase accordingly.

For everything else you'll need as you push through Witchspire's progression, the full Witchspire strategy guides collection covers resources, crafting, and combat from the starting island through the later areas.
