Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian is assembled, not looted. You farm 40 Splinters of Atiesh in Naxxramas, show the frame to Anachronos in Tanaris at Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, kill Kel'Thuzad and C'Thun for the head and base, then exorcise a demon in Stratholme. That is how to get Atiesh in WoW Forever, compressed into one sentence you will resent by week nine.

Only the Mage, Warlock, Priest, and Druid can finish it, and each class gets its own version. Realistic cost: 13 to 18 weekly Naxxramas lockouts funnelled into one player, plus enough Temple of Ahn'Qiraj clears to stop a bronze dragon from hating you.

World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, 2026, set after Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. Blizzard has not dated Naxxramas or published Forever tooltips for the staff. The first raids unlock December 9, and a new WoW Forever legendary questline sits on the spring 2027 roadmap. Until Blizzard prints new numbers, the original chain, drop rates, and raid requirements are the standard, and this guide runs on them unchanged.

Where the Chain Starts

The chain has no questgiver at the start. It begins in your bags: once you hold 40 Splinters of Atiesh, right-click them to cast Forming Frame of Atiesh and receive the Frame of Atiesh, which starts the quest Frame of Atiesh.

The first turn-in is Anachronos, the bronze dragon parked outside the Caverns of Time in eastern Tanaris. Fly to Gadgetzan, ride southeast, and use /way Tanaris 62, 50 for the cavern entrance. He will not speak to you below Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, which is where most hopeful casters discover they skipped a raid.

Full Step-by-Step Chain

  1. Raid Naxxramas weekly and route every Splinter of Atiesh to one chosen player until the stack reaches 40.
  2. Right-click the stack to create the Frame of Atiesh and accept the quest Frame of Atiesh.
  3. Reach Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu through Temple of Ahn'Qiraj clears.
  4. Turn in Frame of Atiesh to Anachronos in Tanaris and accept Atiesh, the Befouled Greatstaff.
  5. Kill Kel'Thuzad in Naxxramas while holding the quest to loot the Staff Head of Atiesh.
  6. Kill C'Thun in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj while holding the quest to loot the Base of Atiesh.
  7. Return both pieces to Anachronos, who hands over the tainted Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian and your class quest.
  8. Enter Stratholme through the front entrance, clear Festival Lane, and use the tainted staff on the glowing consecrated ground.
  9. Kill Atiesh, Hand of Sargeras, and return to Anachronos for the purified legendary.

Drop Rates and How Many Lockouts It Really Takes

Splinters drop from 13 of the 15 Naxxramas bosses. Sapphiron and Kel'Thuzad drop none. Per-boss chances run from roughly 9% to 30%, averaging about 18%, so a full clear yields a little over two splinters on a normal week.

ScenarioSplinters per full clearWeekly lockouts for 40
Every boss at 9%1.2About 34
Average 18%2.3About 17
Every boss at 30%3.9About 11

The Staff Head of Atiesh and the Base of Atiesh are 100% drops for anyone on Atiesh, the Befouled Greatstaff, so the final bosses cost one kill each. The WoW Forever Splinter of Atiesh drop rate has not been published, and nothing suggests Blizzard intends to make your 40 splinters any cheaper.

The Brood of Nozdormu Wall

Reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu starts at Hated, 0 of 36,000. Anachronos ignores you until Neutral, so a caster who never touched Ahn'Qiraj is locked out after farming 40 splinters.

  • Temple of Ahn'Qiraj trash grants reputation up to the end of Neutral, so kill it instead of skipping it.
  • Every Ahn'Qiraj boss except C'Thun drops a Qiraji Lord's Insignia for each raid member, worth 500 reputation when turned in inside the Temple.
  • Hold insignias until trash stops paying, then turn them in , early turn-ins waste the free trash reputation.
  • Pure insignia math from Hated to Neutral requires 72 insignias, which is why the chosen recipient should start this before the first splinter drops.

The Stratholme Fight

The tainted staff carries a 15-minute cooldown exorcism effect usable only on consecrated earth. Bring five players in Naxxramas gear, with the tank geared best, because Atiesh does not care about your nostalgia.

  • Atiesh has roughly 200,000 health and hits the tank for 600 to 1,000 per swing.
  • A shadow aura ticks for about 400 on the whole party, so shadow resistance and two healers help.
  • He casts Shadow Bolt for around 1,500 damage.
  • Breath of Sargeras is a curse that cuts attack power, so bring a Mage or Druid to remove it.
  • A Warrior or Rogue can disarm him, which saves the tank about 1,500 damage and drops Andonisus, Reaper of Souls for pickup.
  • The sword wielder loses 5% of maximum health every 2 seconds, and the blade vanishes after 5 minutes.
  • Shaman totems are reported to feed him an anti-magic shield, so a Druid is the safer fifth slot.

Splinters of Atiesh bind on pickup and cannot be traded, not even inside the loot trade window. A splinter handed to the wrong caster is gone forever. If your group wipes to Atiesh, he stays long enough for another attempt, but once he despawns you need an instance reset to summon him again.

Exact Stats and Procs by Class

All four versions share 130 to 243 damage, speed 2.90, item level 90, and a Karazhan portal on a 1-minute cooldown that drops your group at the tower. The class line is where the real value hides.

VersionPrimary statsPersonal effectsParty aura (30 yards)
Mage+31 Stamina, +32 Intellect, +24 Spirit2% spell hit, +150 spell damage and healing+2% spell critical chance
Warlock+30 Stamina, +29 Intellect2% spell critical chance, +150 spell damage and healing+33 spell damage and healing
Priest+28 Stamina, +28 Intellect, +27 Spirit+120 spell damage, +300 healing+62 healing
Druid+28 Stamina, +28 Intellect, +27 Spirit+300 healing, +420 attack power in Cat and Bear forms11 mana per 5 seconds

How It Actually Performs

The personal stats are good, not absurd. The party aura is the legendary part: it multiplies across every caster in your group, which is why Atiesh is a raid decision and never a personal trophy.

  • The Mage aura hands 2% spell crit to every party member, which peaks in a group of four other Mages.
  • The Warlock aura adds 33 spell damage to each party member, so a full caster group gains more total power than the wielder gets alone.
  • The Priest version gives Holy the biggest personal healing number, while Shadow gets a staff with only 120 spell damage.
  • The Druid version is the weakest raid pick, because 11 mana per 5 seconds and feral attack power rarely justify 40 splinters.

Forever reworks itemization: hit and crit merge across spell, melee, and ranged, and bonus healing now carries one third as much bonus damage. If those rules reach the legendary, the Mage and Warlock bonuses stop being caster-only and the healer versions gain about 100 damage from 300 healing. Treat that as the likely direction, not a printed tooltip.

For a raiding Mage or Warlock, the staff stays in contention as the best caster weapon in WoW Forever the moment it exists, simply because no normal drop ships a party aura.

Which Class and Spec Should Get It

Forever rebuilds every talent tree, so these calls follow raid roles rather than old talent builds.

PriorityClass and specWhy
1Mage, raid damage specParty spell crit aura scales hardest with stacked Mage groups.
2Warlock, raid damage specParty spell damage helps Warlocks and any shadow casters sharing the group.
3Priest, HolyLarge personal and party healing, but healers rarely decide kill times.
4Druid, RestorationMana aura and healing are fine, just not 40-splinters fine.

A WoW Forever Mage legendary is the default answer in most rosters. A guild with more Warlocks than Mages should flip that order without a council meeting.

Guild Politics: Deciding Who Gets It

Atiesh is the one item where loot drama is structurally guaranteed. Settle it in writing before the first splinter drops, because splinters cannot be traded later to fix a mistake.

  • Choose the recipient by officer council , bidding points on 40 separate splinters turns every boss kill into an auction.
  • Require near-perfect attendance, because every missed raid is a splinter the guild can only hand to someone else.
  • Pick a player already close to Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, or make the reputation farm a condition of the deal.
  • Write down what happens if the recipient quits, since the splinters leave with the character and nothing refunds them.
  • Announce the second recipient early and from a different class, so the next staff adds a new aura instead of stacking the same one.
  • Forever has no individual realms, so a finished legendary can walk to a rival guild without a transfer fee.

The WoW Forever Atiesh recipient should be the player the raid would still want at 3 a.m. on a wipe night, not the loudest one in voice chat.

Lore

Atiesh was born from a seed of hate and passed down the Guardians of Tirisfal until Medivh, the Last Guardian. Sargeras rode Medivh into ruin, and the staff inherited the stain. The chain has you reunite the shattered pieces, then burn out the demon wearing its name.

The splinters sit with Kel'Thuzad's lieutenants because the Argent Dawn fought to keep the staff from the lich and only half succeeded. The bronze flight takes an interest because a Guardian's staff in Scourge hands is a timeline problem. Modern canon gives the staff to Khadgar, but Forever runs in its own continuity , a time bubble set around 25 years after the Dark Portal , so the WoW Classic Plus Atiesh story owes retail nothing.

One easter egg survives: carry the finished frame to Archmage Angela Dosantos at Light's Hope Chapel before visiting Anachronos, and the reaction is short, loud, and fatal. For her.

Every World of Warcraft Forever legendary released later will be measured against this staff. Whether Forever ever raises Naxxramas again, the WoW Forever legendary staff blueprint is already written: 40 splinters, two final bosses, one demon, and a guild that agreed on a name.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Atiesh available in WoW Forever right now?

Not yet. Forever launches before Molten Core, and Blizzard has not announced Naxxramas or Atiesh on its published roadmap.

How many Splinters of Atiesh do I need?

You need 40 splinters from 13 Naxxramas bosses, which averages roughly 17 weekly lockouts when funnelled into one player.

Which class should get Atiesh first?

Most guilds pick a Mage for the party spell crit aura, or a Warlock when the raid stacks Warlock groups.

What reputation does Anachronos require?

Anachronos requires Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, which starts at Hated, so farm Temple of Ahn'Qiraj first.

Can Splinters of Atiesh be traded between players?

No. Splinters bind on pickup and cannot be traded, so assign every drop directly to the chosen recipient.
