WoW Forever Dire Maul East is the Warpwood Quarter wing of Dire Maul in Feralas. Walk in through the main gate at 59, 45, chase Pusillin for the Crescent Key, kill Alzzin the Wildshaper, grab a Felvine Shard and mine the veins in the exit tunnel. It is a 5-player wing, current Forever dungeon listings put Dire Maul at levels 54 to 60, and you run it first because West and North stay locked without that key.

Forever keeps Classic combat pacing, so trash takes time and crowd control is expected again. Blizzard also slashed XP from dungeon mobs and pumped XP from dungeon quests, and Meeting Stones do not summon. Pick up every quest before zoning in, bring Freezing Trap and a Warlock, and make the late healer walk through Feralas like everyone did in 2005.

Level, Group Size, and Forever Rules

This WoW Forever dungeon guide assumes a level 58 to 60 group on launch rules. The table below summarizes what changed around the instance, not inside it.

RuleForever State
Group size5 players maximum, same as every Dire Maul wing.
Recommended level54 to 60 in current Forever dungeon tables; Dire Maul tuning is still unconfirmed.
Dungeon mob XPHeavily reduced, so repeat runs are for loot, not levels.
Dungeon quest XPMuch higher, so the first run with a full quest log is the one that pays.
SummoningWarlocks only; Meeting Stones do not summon.
GroupingRealmless rulesets , you group only inside your ruleset and faction.
Loot appearancesBind on pickup blues grant their look to every eligible looter, so nobody needs to roll for fashion.
Hit and critSpell, melee, and ranged hit are one stat, and so is crit.

Entrance Locations and Coordinates

The WoW Forever Dire Maul entrance for this wing is inside the ruins, not at the gate. Enter Dire Maul from the Feralas road at 59, 45, cross the Broken Commons, and the Warpwood Quarter portal sits on the east side next to the big pit. No key is needed to zone in.

Alliance fly to Feathermoon Stronghold, Horde fly to Camp Mojache, then both walk to the ruins. The third door hides under Lariss Pavilion north of Camp Mojache, where Azj'Tordin stands guard over a door that only opens for a Crescent Key.

Best Group Composition

Almost nothing in this wing is humanoid. Satyrs and imps are demons; the plants, treants, and Hydrospawn are elementals, which means Polymorph and Shackle Undead spend the night on the bench. Among Warcraft Forever dungeons at the top bracket, this is where a sheep-only CC plan goes to die.

There is no universal WoW Forever best dungeon comp, but this wing has clear winners. Banish handles demons and elementals, Freezing Trap handles linked treants, and Forever Paladins hit demons hard with Exorcism and Holy Wrath.

RoleBest PicksWhat They Fix
TankProtection Warrior, Protection PaladinAlzzin drops threat on every form shift, and both have a taunt. The Paladin taunts through Judgment with Seal of Fury, and Swift Judgment resets a missed one.
HealerPriest, Druid, Paladin, ShamanIntense Pain and Immolate need magic dispels, Lethtendris curses need a decurse, Enervate is a poison, and Wither is a disease.
DPSWarlock, Hunter, Mage, RogueBanish, Freezing Trap, Counterspell, and Kick cover every dangerous cast, and Mage AoE deletes imp and Hydroling waves.
  • The safe comp is Warrior tank, Priest healer, Warlock, Mage, and Hunter.
  • The demon-slaying comp is Paladin tank, Druid healer, Warlock, Rogue, and Retribution Paladin.
  • The Forever talent baseline gives Kings, Divine Spirit, and Improved Mark of the Wild for free, so pick healers for healing, not for a buff.
  • Consecration only deals full damage to the first four targets, which happens to be exactly how many imps Pusillin summons.
  • At least one Miner and one Herbalist should be in the group, or you are donating Arcane Crystals to the next group.

Best Routes Through Dire Maul East

Full Clear with Every Quest

  • Zone in, turn left, and talk to Pusillin before anyone pulls anything.
  • Follow him counterclockwise around the Warpwood Quarter, clearing packs and talking to him every time he stops.
  • Take the narrow hallway called The Hidden Reach, skip the side room on the right, and watch for stealthed satyr patrols.
  • Fight Pusillin on the small platform up the ramp, then loot the key and the book.
  • Optionally zone out through the tunnel east of his platform, turn the book in at Lariss Pavilion, and zone back in.
  • Return to the side room you skipped, hug the left wall, and take the ramp up to Lethtendris.
  • Take the curved hallway at the bottom of her ramp down to Hydrospawn and his pool.
  • Hug the right wall, go north through the far doorway, and up to Zevrim Thornhoof on his altar platform.
  • Jump down from the southwest corner of his platform to land back at the pool.
  • Take the southwest door into The Conservatory and talk to Old Ironbark, who smashes the north door open.
  • Clear the Warpwood Crushers on the ramp and the lasher packs at the bottom, then kill Alzzin the Wildshaper.
  • Loot a Felvine Shard near his camp, mine the veins in the tunnel behind it, and exit to central Dire Maul.

Key Run Only

The WoW Forever Crescent Key drops from Pusillin and nobody else. Chase him, kill him, exit through the east tunnel to Lariss Pavilion, and you own the key to Dire Maul West, Dire Maul North, and the back door. Every character needs one, and it does not care about your feelings or your alts.

Jump Run

Drop straight into The Conservatory at the start instead of walking the upper ring. Kill Hydrospawn and Zevrim Thornhoof back to back, return to Old Ironbark, open the door, and kill Alzzin the Wildshaper. It skips most upper trash and ends at the veins, and it only works if the landing spot is empty and you jump at full health.

Back Door Route

Crescent Key holders can enter through Lariss Pavilion at 76, 37 and start at the far end of the wing. It saves the walk through the Broken Commons ogres and nothing else, because Pusillin still lives near the front entrance.

Mob Abilities and Trash to Respect

Trash here is the reason groups wipe, not the bosses. Dire Maul East trash respawns, so a slow group gets to meet the same patrol twice.

MobWhat It DoesAnswer
Warpwood Treant and Warpwood TanglerLinked and cannot be pulled apart; tree types heal themselves and each other.Trap one, interrupt heals, kill the healer first.
Warpwood CrusherHuge health, heavy melee, and a long aggro range; several guard Alzzin's ramp.Pull it alone and never leave one alive above the boss.
Phase LasherSwaps element and resistances mid-fight: purple for arcane, red for fire, blue for frost, black for shadow.Casters change school when the color changes; ranged stand back from the AoE.
Whip LasherComes in large non-elite packs.AoE it and move on.
Wildspawn Satyr, Wildspawn Shadowstalker, Wildspawn HellcallerStealthed patrols, poisons, curses, and fear across the satyr family.Banish, dispel, and keep an eye on the corridor behind you.
Wildspawn ImpFour spawn with Pusillin.AoE them while the tank holds Pusillin.
HydrolingSpawns during Hydrospawn and hits harder than the boss.AoE them or burn the boss; never ignore both.
Warpwood PodRoots or poisons anyone who walks close.Loot it on purpose for tubers and seeds, not by accident.

Boss Abilities and Strategies

Pusillin

Pusillin is an imp who steals books and wastes your time. After the chase he transforms and summons four Wildspawn Imps.

  • Blast Wave hits everyone in melee range with fire.
  • Fire Blast is instant fire damage on a single target.
  • Fireball is his main cast and should be kicked or countered.
  • Spirit of Runn Tum makes him bigger, adds 20% melee haste, and gives a 50% chance to reflect spells.

Tank Pusillin, AoE the imps, interrupt every Fireball, and stop casting into him while Spirit of Runn Tum is up. Warlocks can enslave an imp for the fight, which is petty and correct.

Lethtendris

Lethtendris is a blood elf addicted to magic, and she brings her imp Pimgib. Pimgib has about a third of her health, so it dies first.

  • Void Bolt is a 4-second cast that must be interrupted every time.
  • Shadow Bolt Volley damages the whole group.
  • Immolate is a fire damage over time effect that healers should dispel.
  • Curse of Tongues slows casting and needs a decurse.
  • Curse of Thorns needs a decurse as well.
  • Enlarge is her self-buff for making the fight longer.

Kill Pimgib, then rotate interrupts in the order Void Bolt, Shadow Bolt Volley, Immolate. Mages and Druids clean curses, and the fight is over before anyone gets bored.

Hydrospawn

Hydrospawn lives in the central pool. His kit is Riptide, Submersion, Massive Geyser, Hydrojet, and Summon Hydroling, and only the last one matters.

Clear the room first. With strong AoE, kill Hydrolings as they spawn; with strong single-target damage, burn the boss and let the healer suffer briefly. Mages on Arcane Refreshment need the Hydrospawn Essence he drops.

Zevrim Thornhoof

Zevrim Thornhoof waits on an altar platform behind a Wildspawn Hellcaller and some non-elites. Killing him frees Old Ironbark, so he is not optional for the final boss.

  • Sacrifice teleports a party member onto his altar and drains them with heavy damage.
  • Intense Pain is a dispellable shadow damage over time effect on multiple targets.

Ranged stand at maximum distance to dodge Intense Pain, healers pour everything into the sacrificed player, and Paladins or Mages escape the altar with Divine Shield or Ice Block. Warlocks can enslave the Hellcaller or a Shadowstalker and point it at Zevrim.

Alzzin the Wildshaper

Alzzin the Wildshaper corrupted the Fruit of Fertility into the Felvine and turned the Shrine of Eldre'Thalas into a plant zoo. He shifts forms and resets threat every time he does.

FormAbilitiesAnswer
SatyrEnervate, Wither, ThornsCure the Enervate poison, remove the Wither disease, and melee respect Thorns.
TreeDisarm, Knock Away, Wild RegenerationArmor spikes, so stack Sunder Armor and Expose Armor and interrupt the healing.
Dire WolfDire Wolf Form, Mangle, Vicious BiteTank damage peaks here, so healers keep the tank topped and cooldowns ready.
  • The tank taunts after every shift, because Alzzin wipes threat each time.
  • At 35% health the wall behind him crumbles and non-elite adds pour out.
  • Any Warpwood Crusher left alive on the ramp joins the fight, which is how groups die at 10%.
  • Felvine Shards drop on the ground near his camp once he dies, and the quest is not required to loot one.

Isalien

Isalien is summoned in Alzzin's room with the Brazier of Beckoning or the Brazier of Invocation from the Classic Tier 0.5 chain. Blizzard has not confirmed that chain for Forever, so treat her as a probable guest, not a promise.

  • Call Pet brings a hippogryph that dies before she does.
  • Multi-Shot and Net punish ranged players who stand in a clump.
  • Regrowth heals her to full if nobody interrupts it.
  • Vengeance is her damage steroid when the fight drags.

Farming Dire Maul East in Forever

The old jump run still exists on the map. What changed is the payoff: mob XP is down, Mage Blizzard slows far less, and Consecration only hits four targets at full strength, so the classic Lasher XP farm is mostly a memory.

Anyone still searching classic plus Dire Maul farm routes should farm materials instead of experience. The Legacy talent Bountiful Harvest boosts mining and herbalism yields, and this wing is full of both.

Dire Maul East Lore

Dire Maul was once Eldre'Thalas, a Highborne city built twelve thousand years ago to guard Queen Azshara's arcane secrets. It survived the Great Sundering in ruins, and the Shen'dralar stayed inside under Prince Tortheldrin, feeding on a demon to keep their immortality.

Azj'Tordin traded that immortality for freedom and ran, but Pusillin stole his Book of Incantations and his key on the way out. Deeper in the Warpwood Quarter, the satyr Alzzin twisted the Fruit of Fertility into the Felvine, which the Cenarion Circle would very much like sealed in a box.

In World of Warcraft Forever, Dire Maul matters more than it did in 2005. Forever is set in the first year of the game, before Molten Core, and the new Shen'dralas zone south of Desolace digs into the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, and Dire Maul itself, so the books you loot here are no longer just vendor trash with a backstory.

FAQ

Where is the Dire Maul East entrance in Forever?
Enter Dire Maul in Feralas at 59, 45, then take the east portal in the Broken Commons. No key needed.

Who drops the Crescent Key?
Pusillin drops it after the chase through the Warpwood Quarter. Every character needs one to open West and North.

What level do you need for Dire Maul East?
Current Forever dungeon listings put Dire Maul at 54 to 60, but a level 58 group is the comfortable minimum.

Which classes are best for this wing?
Warlocks and Hunters shine because most enemies are demons or elementals, so Banish and Freezing Trap beat Polymorph here.

Is jump run farming still worth it?
For XP, no, since dungeon mob XP was cut. For herbs, thorium, Arcane Crystals, and dusty tomes, still yes.
