The Wildwoods is where Yoshi and the Mysterious Book begins, and it sets the tone for everything that follows. You're working through 5 creature habitats and hunting down 20 Smiley Flowers spread across each one. The Wildwoods has one fewer creature than every other chapter in the game, but that doesn't make it a pushover, especially once you start chasing every Discovery. Here's everything you need to clear it completely.
How many creatures and Smiley Flowers are in the Wildwoods?
The Wildwoods hosts 5 creatures and a total of 20 Smiley Flowers. This chapter requires 0 Stars to unlock, making it the game's starting point. Every other chapter in the game features 6 creatures, so the Wildwoods is unique in that regard.
The five creatures you'll encounter are:
- Crazee Dayzee (3 Smiley Flowers)
- Bunchabee (5 Smiley Flowers)
- Scatterpuff (3 Smiley Flowers)
- Croakaoke (4 Smiley Flowers)
- Glubbit (5 Smiley Flowers)
The Wildwoods evolves as you discover creatures in later chapters. Returning after progressing the story can unlock new Discovery Events you couldn't trigger on your first visit.
Crazee Dayzee habitat walkthrough
The Crazee Dayzee is the first creature you'll meet. Use the Magnifying Glass to inspect the flower creature walking in the grass, then enter its habitat. The core mechanic here is carrying the Crazee Dayzee on Yoshi's back using a Tail Flick (press X), which causes nearby flower buds to bloom.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Guide: Wildwoods Chapter Walkthrough
How to get all 3 Crazee Dayzee Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: From the Arched Bush, follow the sloping grass path down and to the left. There's a hidden section beneath the arch. The flower is at the leftmost end of that underground passage.
Smiley Flower 2: To the right of the same Arched Bush, there's a hidden path running under the Red Exclamation Switch. Follow it right and you'll find the Smiley Flower floating above a mud puddle. Use Flutter Jump (hold A) to grab it cleanly.
Smiley Flower 3: Ground Pound the Red Exclamation Switch to trigger a rain cloud that sprouts a giant tree. Climb the tree, move right onto the large platform, then jump up the short platforms to the left and Flutter Jump to reach the flower.
You must be carrying a Crazee Dayzee when you Flutter Jump across the three large flower buds at the end of the stage. Without it, the flowers won't bloom and you won't trigger the Big Discovery.
Bunchabee habitat walkthrough
The Bunchabee section works differently from every other habitat. You must collect all 5 Smiley Flowers to complete the mission, and none of them are particularly hidden. The challenge is dealing with the bee swarms protecting each one.
How to get all 5 Bunchabee Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: Throw an egg at the Winged Cloud to spawn platforms. Head to the longer platform and retrieve the flower from the Bunchabees guarding it.
Smiley Flower 2: Below the cave with the small entrance, find the leaf platforms. A Smiley Flower is being held by a Bunchabee swarm here. Use a Crazee Dayzee to distract the bees or crouch in the bog to avoid getting stung.
Smiley Flower 3: From the Winged Cloud platforms, go to the yellow platform on the right, then the orange platform above-left. Swing from vine to vine and grab the flower from the Bunchabees.
Smiley Flower 4: In the upper-right area, there's a cave with a small entrance. Crawl through it with a Crazee Dayzee on your back to lure the bees toward the flowers, trapping them. Collect the flower freely.
Smiley Flower 5: On the long platform to the upper-left of the vine area, clear out the Bunchabee hives with Egg Tosses, then grab the flower once the bees scatter.
If you run low on eggs in the Bunchabee habitat, carrying and throwing a Crazee Dayzee works as a substitute projectile for hitting Winged Clouds and distracting swarms.
Scatterpuff habitat walkthrough
The Scatterpuff habitat introduces a spread mechanic. Carry an apple from the upper-right platform's tree, run through the white puff creatures to infect it, then run back and forth to grow Scatterpuff on the tree. The big white puffs you create become platforms.
How to get all 3 Scatterpuff Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: Find the statue on the right side of the map. Spread Scatterpuff spores on it until it's fully covered, then Ground Pound it to break it open and reveal the flower inside.
Smiley Flower 2: From the platform above the cave with the sleeping creature, spread spores onto the nearby floating shrub. Once the large Scatterpuff balls grow on it, jump on them to reach the higher platform where the flower waits.
Smiley Flower 3: Spread Scatterpuff near the pond to absorb the water and lower the water level. Then build a giant white puff ball by rolling the wooden ball through the spores, and roll it down the drained pond to uncover the hidden area containing the flower.
To complete the Big Discovery at the end, go all the way left and spread spores on the giant square rock blocking a tunnel entrance. Use your tongue (Gobble) to push the spores further inside the cave. Once the puffs cover the hidden creature inside, it flees and the discovery triggers.
Croakaoke habitat walkthrough
The Croakaoke habitat is the most rhythm-focused section in the Wildwoods. Each frog-like creature sings a note when you bounce on its head, and the Smiley Flowers here are locked behind completing specific musical sequences. The songs you need to perform are real tunes: Do-Re-Mi, Whimsical Waltz, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and London Bridge is Falling Down.
How to get all 4 Croakaoke Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: Hop the 8 Croakaokes in order from Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Purple, and then the higher Red to play the full Do-Re-Mi scale. The flower appears above the high Red Croakaoke.
Smiley Flower 2: Past the first big purple Croakaoke, hop each creature starting from the orange one through to the second pair of small green Croakaokes to play the Whimsical Waltz. The flower reveals itself after completing this sequence.
Smiley Flower 3: Feed the big green Croakaoke a pink note fruit to access the tall platforming section above. Hop each Croakaoke in sequence to play Mary Had a Little Lamb without missing a note. The flower appears after the sequence completes.
Smiley Flower 4: Feed a chili pepper to the light blue Croakaoke to open an underground path. Starting from the light blue Croakaoke at the lower right, bounce in clockwise formation then back left to play the Tune for a Famous Fallen Bridge (London Bridge is Falling Down). The flower floats above the Red Croakaoke after the sequence.
In the Croakaoke habitat, missing a note in a sequence resets the song. If you're struggling with timing, remember you can hold the jump button while bouncing on a Croakaoke to go higher, which gives you more time between hops.
Glubbit habitat walkthrough
The Glubbit is the last creature in the Wildwoods and has the most Smiley Flowers to collect at 5. The core mechanic is carrying a Glubbit and running back and forth to generate bubbles, which Yoshi can ride upward. Feeding a Glubbit an apple makes it produce bigger, longer-lasting bubbles. Dunking a Glubbit in a mud puddle makes it produce heavy mud bubbles that fall downward instead.
How to get all 5 Glubbit Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: Carry a Glubbit and create bubbles to float up to the lily pad above the floating tokens. Jump left then right across lily pads to collect the flower.
Smiley Flower 2: Keep riding bubbles upward from the lily pad until you reach the top of the tall rock pillar. The flower sits on top.
Smiley Flower 3: Float up with bubbles to the right of a lily pad, then throw an egg at the Winged Cloud while mid-air. Flutter Jump to grab the Smiley Flower that replaces the cloud. If you fall, the leafy platforms let you climb back up.
Smiley Flower 4: Ground Pound a Glubbit into the mud puddle to coat it, making it produce mud bubbles. Run back and forth over the leaf pile on the ground with the muddy Glubbit to create mud bubbles that interact with the leaves, causing them to fall and reveal a hidden cave. Drop in and collect the flower.
Smiley Flower 5: After freeing Bowser Jr. and Kamek from the bubble (pop it by jumping or using your tongue), use a Glubbit's bubbles to ascend past the rescue point to the lily pad above. Create more bubbles there and ride them to the topmost platform to grab the final flower.
How long does the Wildwoods chapter take to complete?
Clearing all 20 Smiley Flowers across the 5 habitats takes most players between 2 and 4 hours depending on how much time they spend on Discoveries. The Croakaoke habitat tends to be the biggest time sink because the musical sequences require precise timing. If you're aiming for full completion of every Discovery, budget extra time for the Crazee Dayzee habitat in particular, which has the most individual Discoveries of any creature in the chapter.
For a full breakdown of the game's total completion time across all 6 chapters, check out the how long to beat guide.
The Wildwoods chapter is available from the start and requires 0 Stars to unlock, unlike later chapters which gate access behind Star counts earned from previous areas.
