The Ascension Gauge is the wall every Aion 2 player hits eventually. You're moving through Episode quests at a solid pace, then suddenly the next story chapter is locked behind a progress bar you haven't touched. Here's the short answer: fill the gauge by completing Regional Quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds, with Regional Quests being the fastest method by a clear margin.
The Ascension Gauge is a percentage bar tied directly to your progression through Aion 2's main story. Episode quests, the game's mainline content, gate themselves behind specific gauge thresholds. Until you hit 100%, certain Episodes simply will not open.
Beyond unlocking story chapters, filling the gauge also removes the level cap that applies at each Ascension tier and rewards you with an upgraded pair of wings. The lore framing is that your Daeva abilities are being tested and refined by Asahr before you can advance, but mechanically it's a progression gate that forces you to engage with the world around the main story.

Ascension Gauge progress tracker
Three types of content contribute to the gauge. They're not equal in speed or secondary value, so knowing which to prioritize saves real time.
| Content Type | Gauge Speed | Secondary Rewards | Recommended? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regional Quests | Fastest | Accessories (earrings, necklaces) | Yes, always |
| Sealed Dungeons | Moderate | Skill Points, Daevonian Board Points | Yes, strong secondary value |
| Strongholds | Slowest | Belt enhancement scrolls | Only if you need the scrolls |
Each Regional Quest adds just under 5% to the gauge. Episode quests also contribute, which means if you've been running the mainline you're already partway there. In practice, you'll typically need only three or four extra Regional Quests on top of your Episode progress to hit the threshold.
Regional Quests appear automatically in your Journal as you move through the world and pass quest givers. They show up on the Map as question marks, so you can plan your route without backtracking. One thing worth knowing: gauge gain does not scale with quest level. Earlier quests fill the bar just as effectively as later ones, so if you're behind, clearing older Regional Quests in areas you've already visited is a completely valid catch-up strategy.
When choosing which Regional Quests to prioritize, favor ones that reward accessories like earrings and necklaces. You're filling the gauge either way, so you may as well pick up gear upgrades while you're at it.
Sealed Dungeons contribute to the gauge at a lower rate than Regional Quests, but they're worth running anyway because the secondary rewards are genuinely useful. Clearing a Sealed Dungeon earns Skill Points and Daevonian Board Points, both of which directly upgrade your character and prepare you for harder content ahead.
The mistake most players make is treating Sealed Dungeons as pure gauge filler and skipping them when the gauge is already close to full. The character progression rewards make them worth completing on their own schedule, separate from whatever your gauge situation looks like.
Strongholds are the least efficient gauge source. They're time-consuming, require you to complete specific objectives, and the gauge contribution is limited. The belt enhancement scrolls they drop have value, but if your only goal is filling the bar quickly, Strongholds are not the answer. Run them if you need the scrolls or if you've already cleared the Regional Quests in an area and want something to do.
Ascension quests are a separate category from Regional Quests. There are only 10 of them in the game, and they function as milestone unlocks that open advanced systems rather than just filling the gauge. They're the highest-value non-mainline quests available, and skipping one locks a system until you go back for it.
A worked example: The One Who Hears the Voice is an Ascension quest in the Path of Ascension II chain. It unlocks at character level 10, is recommended around level 22, and requires two earlier quests (The One Who Perceives and Verdant Melody) to be complete. The quest runs through three steps: speak to Asahr at the Dream Crossroad, enter the Dream Remnants to retrieve the Dream of Willpower Fragment, then find Asahr again inside the Dream of Torment to finish. It rewards experience plus the Ascension item itself, and it's a prerequisite for the Episode quest Daeva in a Dream.
If an Ascension quest is showing in your Journal, take it before anything optional around it. The gauge contribution is real, and the system unlock it provides is permanent value.
Neither is always the right call. The useful rule is situational.
Prioritize the Episode quest when:
Prioritize the Regional Quest when:
Defer a Regional Quest when the reward is useless at your current tier, the detour is long, or the combat is clearly beyond your gear. A death loop wastes more time than the quest saves.
For a full breakdown of quest ordering and which content to tackle first at each stage, the Aion 2 quest priority guide covers the decision framework in detail.
Once you hit 100% and unlock the next Episode chapter, you're not done with the Ascension system. Each new Ascension tier resets the gauge and introduces a new threshold to fill, so the same strategies apply across the whole game. The level cap that lifts at each Ascension is the more immediately noticeable reward, alongside the upgraded wings you receive.
If you're working toward max level and want to understand how Ascension fits into the broader progression arc, the Aion 2 leveling and progression guide maps out the full path from the early game through endgame systems.
How many Regional Quests do I need to fill the Ascension Gauge? If you've been running Episode quests alongside them, usually three or four extra Regional Quests is enough. Each one adds just under 5% to the gauge, and Episode quests contribute as well, so you're rarely starting from zero.
Does quest level affect how much gauge I get? No. Gauge gain does not scale with quest level. Earlier Regional Quests fill the bar as effectively as later ones, which makes them a reliable catch-up option.
Can I skip Sealed Dungeons and still fill the gauge? Yes, Regional Quests alone can carry the gauge. Sealed Dungeons are recommended because the Skill Points and Daevonian Board Points they award are worth having, not because they're required for the gauge itself.
What happens when the gauge hits 100%? The next locked Episode quest opens, the level cap for that Ascension tier lifts, and you receive upgraded wings. The gauge then resets for the next tier.
Where do I find Regional Quests? They appear automatically in your Journal as you pass quest givers in each region. Open the Map and look for question mark icons to find their locations without manual searching.
