Pets in Aion 2 are not just cosmetic companions you park in a corner and forget. They function as mounts, contribute passive stats through Owned Effects, and feed into a deeper progression system called Genus Insight that generates permanent bonuses across your entire account. With over 200 pets divided across five genus groups, knowing where to focus your farming time makes a real difference in how fast your character grows.
Every pet you collect in Aion 2 belongs to one of five genus groups: Fera, Cogni, Natura, Varian, and Special. Each pet provides two categories of stats: Mount Effects, which only apply while you are riding the pet, and Owned Effects, which are passive bonuses that stack with every other pet you have unlocked. That second category is what makes broad collection genuinely valuable rather than just a collector's hobby.
To strengthen a pet beyond its base state, you need to collect its Soul Fragments. These drop from defeating the corresponding monster in the overworld or come from Pet Soul Chests tied to the matching genus. Leveling a pet's soul unlocks additional Owned Effects and, at level 5, grants the pet a transform option. Most pets cap at level 5.

Aion 2 Pet List: All Pets & How to Get Them
Pets are not available from the moment you log in. You need to complete the All Geared Up quest first, which becomes available after finishing the Dawn Legion quest during Episode 2. Completing All Geared Up prompts you to pick one of three starter pets as a reward and opens the full Pets screen for the first time.
Once unlocked, the first three pets in your collection can be obtained naturally by progressing through the first half of Episode 2, so there is no need to farm specifically for your earliest companions.
The table below covers the primary genus groupings and example pets within each. The full roster exceeds 200 entries, but these represent the key categories you will encounter through normal play and targeted farming.
| Genus | Example Pets | Primary Soul Fragment Source |
|---|---|---|

The most direct method. Defeat the specific overworld monster tied to a pet to earn a chance at its Soul Fragment. Pets like Papis have fragments spread across more than a dozen zones including Silent Hill, Nameless Cemetery, Trainen Highland, and Mahindel River, making them straightforward to farm during normal leveling. More obscure pets tie to rarer spawn locations and may require dedicated farming sessions.
The Black Cloud Merchant store refreshes hourly and sells pets at a discount. Check it regularly since the inventory rotates. If a pet you want appears, buy it immediately rather than waiting for the next cycle.
Three chest types exist for pet acquisition:
Limited-time events introduce exclusive pets themed around the event content. These often come pre-leveled, making them immediately useful, but they disappear when the event ends. The Battlepass also provides currency for a Pass Shop where exclusive pets can be purchased by leveling up the pass.
Global pre-registration rewards include Pagati plus a choice from Black Smoke Molt, Konutin Worker, Silver Blade Rotan, and Papis. Some exclusive pets are tied to high-end accomplishments: the first players to clear the Chalice of Muspel content were eligible to receive the Red Dragon pet.
Genus Insight is the account-level progression layer built on top of individual pet ownership. Every time you obtain a pet, you earn experience toward that pet's genus Insight track. As the Insight level rises, you unlock additional passive stat bonuses through an analysis system.
At Genus Insight level 1, you can analyze and receive one passive stat. By level 9, that number climbs to 10 available stats. The five Insight tracks mirror the genus groups: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special each have their own progression.
NCSOFT updated the system so that pet ownership and Genus Insight progress are shared across all characters on the same server. Insight uses the highest value achieved by any character on your account, while pet soul levels are aggregated across characters. This means building a broad collection on your main character directly benefits any alts you create later without repeating the same grind.

The most efficient approach during early play is to collect pets passively while leveling rather than stopping to farm one specific target. Most zones contain multiple farmable pets from different genus groups, so natural exploration covers a lot of ground. Save dedicated farming sessions for pets tied to specific high-value zones like Purifying Forest, Immortal Isle, or Spirit Isle, which each contain Soul Fragment sources for multiple genus groups simultaneously.
For players targeting specific Genus Insight tracks, opening the corresponding Genus Pet Chest removes the randomness from the process. Mysterious Pet Chests are better when you want broad collection progress across all groups at once.
Keep every Soul Fragment you earn, even for pets you already own. Soul levels continue to rise beyond the initial unlock, and higher soul levels mean more stacked Owned Effects contributing to your passive stat totals.
For a breakdown of which classes benefit most from specific stat builds, check the Aion 2 class tier list for PvE and PvP to see how pet-sourced stats align with your chosen playstyle. If you want to maximize early rewards before committing to heavy farming, the Aion 2 active codes for October 2026 can provide additional resources to accelerate your progression.
