Aniimo is not a solo-only experience. The free-to-play creature-catching RPG supports up to 4 players in a shared world, with crossplay across PC, consoles, and mobile. Whether you want to explore Idyll with friends, tackle Sanctums together, or compete in the late-game Egg Heist mode, there is a multiplayer angle for almost every part of the game. How does Aniimo multiplayer work?
Aniimo uses a hosted world system, similar to how Genshin Impact handles co-op. There is no shared persistent server where multiple players build and progress simultaneously. Instead, one player acts as the host, and up to 3 others join that player's instance of Idyll. Progress, completed quests, and world changes save only for the host.
This is an important distinction. Aniimo is not an MMO, and it is not a shared-server sandbox like Palworld. Think of it as inviting friends into your game rather than playing on a communal world.
How to unlock multiplayer in Aniimo
Multiplayer is not available from the moment you start the game. You must first progress through the main story and defeat Alpha Turbo, the first Alpha Boss. Beating Alpha Turbo earns you the rank of I Student, which unlocks the Friends and Party icons in the in-game menu.

How to invite friends and form a party
Once multiplayer is unlocked, the process for inviting friends is straightforward.
Companion mode (open world co-op)
- Open the in-game menu and navigate to your Friends list.
- Use the search bar to find another player by their username or ID.
- Send them a friend request and wait for them to accept.
- Once they appear in your friends list, select the right button on their profile tab to send a Companion invite.
- Alternatively, if you are physically near another player in the world, you can select the invite option directly from their profile.
Once you become Companions, a visual link appears between you and your partner showing your distance from each other. The player who sends the invite first becomes the host. Companions can leave at any time.

Team Up mode (Sanctums and boss co-op)
Team Up is a separate mode designed for tackling Sanctums and bosses together.
- From your Friends list, select the left button on a friend's tab to send a Team Up invite.
- Alternatively, open the Party tab in the menu, find an empty slot, and invite from there.
- You can also select Team Up directly from another player's profile if you are face-to-face in the world.
The player who initiates becomes the Team Leader and decides which Co-Op Mode the group takes on.

What can you do in multiplayer?
The co-op content in Aniimo goes beyond simply wandering around together. Here is a breakdown of what is actually available.
Sanctums with friends
Sanctums contain puzzles and boss encounters that you can tackle as a group. The puzzles inside Sanctums are actually designed for multiplayer, though they are optional and their rewards can be obtained through other means if you prefer playing solo.
Exclusive Aniimo through co-op
Two creatures, Fulmintis and Dazmand, can only be captured while visiting another player's world. You cannot obtain them in your own world through normal exploration. Trading is the other option if you do not want to join someone else's session.
Social hubs
Shared public locations like Astra city, outposts, campfires, and RV parks let you see and interact with other players without needing a formal invite. You can duel, trade, chat to build Affinity, or hatch eggs at these locations.
What is Egg Heist?
Egg Heist is Aniimo's dedicated PvPvE mode and the only place in the game where PvP combat is the main focus. Three players land on the Lost Isles, fight through wild creatures, infiltrate a restricted zone, and race to seize the giant Darkler Egg. You are competing against both the environment and the other players simultaneously.
This mode is late-game content. You need to reach the rank of Veteran Pathfinder before Egg Heist becomes available, so do not expect to jump into it during your first few hours.
Multiplayer limitations to know before you play
The hosted world system comes with some real restrictions worth understanding before you commit to a session.
- Open world encounters are not random. You cannot simply bump into strangers while exploring Idyll. Other players must be invited into your world, or you must join theirs.
- Guest progress does not save. Any quests, exploration, or structures from a session in someone else's world vanish when you leave.
- Main story is locked to solo. You cannot bring friends along for the main narrative quests.
- Party size caps at 4. No exceptions.
For players coming from true MMOs or shared-server games, the hosted model can feel restrictive. That said, the Sanctum co-op, Egg Heist, and trading systems give the multiplayer real purpose beyond just exploring together.
