Thornblade is one of the strongest DPS creatures in Aniimo, and it comes in four distinct forms: standard, Thunderstorm, Towerwood, and Prismana. Each one has its own spawn conditions, and the game does a poor job of explaining any of it. After testing every method across multiple weather cycles and zone resets, here is everything you need to know to get whichever version you are after.
Where to catch standard Thornblade
The standard Thornblade, the red-petal version, spawns in the Sea of Flowers region. Head to the area around the broken windmill structure west of the fast travel Bloom Stone. A wild Thornblade occasionally appears near the lone tree on the small hill just beyond the tower, surrounded by Budsquires. The spawn is not guaranteed, so you may need to reset the zone a few times before one appears. Clear weather improves your odds compared to rain or thunderstorm conditions.
Aniimo Guide: How to Get Thornblade
A faster and more reliable method is to use the Sea of Flowers Bloom. Nurture it with a Green Shard (also called a Grass Shard Nurturing Offering) to trigger a surge of roughly 20 Budsquires. As your Prismatic Energy climbs, Thornblades start mixing in with the Budsquires. Testing showed that reaching at least a Slight Prismatic Energy level is enough to start seeing Thornblades appear in that surge. This is the method worth prioritizing if you want a specific Thornblade with good stats.
Evolution is technically possible but genuinely awkward to set up. A Budsquire can evolve into Thornblade at Level 27, but only if it defeats a Thornblade while being the sole Aniimo in your party. The requirement is per-Budsquire, not account-wide, so only the one that lands the kill unlocks the evolution path.
The setup:
Choose the Budsquire you want to evolve (Perfect Potential recommended before committing).
Remove every other Aniimo from your party.
Find a Thornblade and defeat it using only that Budsquire.
warning
If you catch any other Aniimo during this run, even to clear the area, they get added to your party automatically and break the solo requirement. Plan your route before engaging.
The cleanest target for this is the lone Towerwood Thornblade in Rosetower Woods, found at coordinates 0561, 0745 inside the Maze of Thorns. Every other Thornblade in the game has Budsquire followers nearby, which complicates the solo fight. The Towerwood variant at this location stands alone. When fighting, watch for Thornblade's barrage attack, which telegraphs with a blue glow at the tip of its sword. Use Budsquire's Counter at that moment for significant damage.
Where to catch Thunderstorm Thornblade
Thunderstorm Thornblade has black skin with dark petal highlights and only appears in the Sea of Flowers during Rainy or Thunderstorm weather. Fast travel to the Sea of Flowers Bloom Stone, head west toward the broken tower, then circle around to the main entrance. The Thunderstorm Thornblade leans against the wall by that entrance.
Only one spawns per weather cycle. If you defeat it by accident or want additional copies, you have two options: wait for the next weather shift, or use the Grass Shard Nurturing Offering at the local Bloom during active rain or thunderstorm weather to trigger multiple spawns. The Bloom method costs resources, so save it for when you have free nurtures available.
There is no Thunderstorm Budsquire form, which means evolution cannot produce this variant. Catching it directly is the only path.
Aniimo Guide: How to Get Thornblade
Where to catch Towerwood Thornblade
Towerwood Thornblade has a more armored, regal appearance compared to the floral standard form. Head to Rosetower Woods and look for the ruins of an abandoned castle. One Towerwood Thornblade patrols the road leading to the ruins with three Budsquires in tow. A second one stands alone at the back of the castle grounds at coordinates 0561, 0745, making it the better target both for catching and for the Budsquire evolution requirement mentioned above.
A standard Aniipod works fine here. Towerwood Thornblade is not particularly evasive or difficult to catch compared to the weather-gated variants.
Where to catch Prismana Thornblade
Prismana Thornblade is the rarest form and the most RNG-dependent. Two routes exist:
Prismana Pact reward: Players who have not yet reached level 40 can select Prismana Thornblade as their reward from the Prismana Pact, which unlocks when you first visit the Polaris Institute. After reaching level 40 and completing the associated promotion quest, a free Prismana Thornblade becomes available. If you claimed a different Aniimo from the Pact, you will need to catch one in the wild.
Wild capture via Bloom: Head to the Sea of Flowers Bloom and raise its Prismatic Energy using Vein Essences. The Prismana Thornblade can appear at any energy level, but the number of attempts needed varies wildly. Once it does spawn, the game automatically opens your map and marks its exact location. Use a Sparkling Cube Aniipod for the best capture rate when you reach it.
Any Thornblade variant can be converted to another form using a Morph Orb, provided you have the target form registered in your Aniilog. This means catching Thunderstorm Thornblade once unlocks the ability to convert any standard Thornblade into the Thunderstorm form, and vice versa.
To convert, open the Aniimo Management box, click a Thornblade's portrait, open the last tab in the context menu (the exclamation mark icon), and select "Change Form." The conversion costs 1 Morph Orb and happens instantly.
Morph Orbs are purchased from the Glimmer Shop: pause menu, then Shop, then Items, then Glimmer. Each Morph Orb costs 300 Glimmer, and the shop caps purchases at 10 Morph Orbs per week before the stock resets.
