Don't dive into the drink, dive into naval combat in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

Diving Bells are some of the most rewarding optional activities in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. There are 7 of them scattered across the Caribbean map, and each one sends Edward down into the ocean to loot chests from sunken wrecks and underwater caverns. Most contain a mix of standard chests loaded with Reales and a single secret chest hiding something far more valuable, usually an Ultimate Plan for a ship upgrade or a rare weapon. Miss them and you're leaving serious resources on the table.

What are Diving Bells and why should you clear them?

Each Diving Bell is a marked underwater zone where you swim through the wreckage or cavern to collect chests. Standard chests typically hold 1,000 Reales each, while others contain sellable jewelry and valuables. The secret chest in every location is the real prize, dropping Ultimate Plans for ship systems like Mortars, Swivel Guns, and Broadside Cannons, or in one case a rare melee weapon. If you're working toward fully upgrading the Jackdaw, these secret chests are non-negotiable.

tip
The San Ignacio Wreck is the one Diving Bell you cannot miss. The main story leads you directly to it, so treat it as your introduction to how these zones work before hunting the rest.

Here's a quick reference for every Diving Bell location before the detailed breakdowns:

Antocha Wreck (600, 636 — Gibara)

Located in the Gibara region at coordinates 600, 636, the Antocha Wreck is one of the more straightforward Diving Bells with 7 standard chests and 1 secret chest. Most of the standard chests pay out 1,000 Reales flat, though Chest #5 swaps currency for a bundle of jewelry.

Devil's Eye Cavern (453, 323 — Cruz)

The Devil's Eye Cavern sits in the Cruz region at 453, 323, directly north of Charlotte. With 10 standard chests and a secret chest, this is one of the richer Diving Bells for jewelry hauls. Almost every chest here contains multiple valuables rather than flat Reales, which adds up fast.

tip
Jewelry and valuables from chests can be sold for Reales. A full clear of Devil's Eye Cavern yields considerably more total value than the flat 1,000 Reales chests suggest on the surface.

Kabah Ruins (741, 118 — Navassa)

The Kabah Ruins Diving Bell is on the east side of the map in the Navassa region at coordinates 741, 118. At 11 standard chests plus a secret chest, it has the highest chest count of any Diving Bell in the game. The Round Shot Strength Ultimate Plan from the secret chest directly improves your Jackdaw's cannon damage output.

La Concepción Wreck (150, 271 — Chinchorro)

Head to the Chinchorro region on the western edge of the map and look for coordinates 150, 271 to find La Concepción Wreck. Nine standard chests and a secret chest make this a solid mid-game stop. The Ram Ultimate Plan from the secret chest upgrades your ship's ramming capability.

The Black Trench (184, 422 — Castillo de Jagua)

The Black Trench is found in the Castillo de Jagua region at coordinates 184, 422. Unlike every other Diving Bell on this list, the secret chest here does not contain a ship upgrade plan. Instead, it drops the Espada Ancha, a rare cutlass that's worth picking up for Edward's melee loadout.

warning
The Black Trench is the only Diving Bell where the secret chest reward is a weapon rather than a ship upgrade plan. If you're prioritizing Jackdaw upgrades, don't skip this one expecting a naval plan — but the Espada Ancha is still worth the dive.

The Blue Hole (438, 145 — Charlotte)

The Blue Hole is located in the Charlotte region at coordinates 438, 145. With 10 standard chests and a secret chest, it ties Devil's Eye Cavern for the second-highest chest count. The Broadside Cannons Number Ultimate Plan from the secret chest is one of the more impactful naval upgrades in the game.

San Ignacio Wreck (348, 744 — Dry Tortuga)

The San Ignacio Wreck is in the Dry Tortuga region at coordinates 348, 744, on the upper west side of the map. The main story brings you here, so you'll see it early. Seven chests and a secret chest round out the location, with the Ull Armor Ultimate Plan as the standout reward.

What's the best order to clear Diving Bells?

The story forces you through San Ignacio Wreck first, so that one takes care of itself. After that, prioritize by what your Jackdaw needs most. If you're struggling in naval combat, head to Kabah Ruins for the Round Shot Strength Ultimate Plan and The Blue Hole for the Broadside Cannons Number Ultimate Plan as early as possible. Devil's Eye Cavern at 453, 323 is also worth an early visit given the sheer number of jewelry chests that convert directly to Reales.

The Black Trench is worth doing purely for the Espada Ancha cutlass if you prefer aggressive melee builds over defensive play.

For everything else you can collect across the Caribbean, the all Data File locations guide and the complete sea shanty locations guide cover the other major collectible categories. And if you're going for full completion, the trophy and achievement list will tell you exactly which Diving Bell clears count toward your unlock progress.
