Collecting all five Templar Keys in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is the only path to unlocking the Templar Armor, one of the better gear rewards the game has to offer. The keys are tied to the Damn Fine Gear side quest, which sends Edward across the Caribbean to track down four Templar targets with the help of local Assassin allies. The first key falls into your hands automatically during the main story, but the remaining four require you to seek out specific characters and work through their quest chains.
How does the Templar Key quest work?
The chain kicks off during the This Old Cove main quest. After Edward assassinates James du Casse aboard his ship, he picks up the first Templar Key without any fanfare. That assassination also unlocks the Damn Fine Gear side quest, which marks four ally locations on your map, each connected to a separate Templar Hunt.
Each hunt follows the same basic structure: find the ally, complete their assigned missions, and claim the key from the Templar target at the end. The quests are independent of each other, so you can tackle the remaining four in any order once Damn Fine Gear is active.

Here is a full breakdown of every key, including the starting location for each quest chain.
Key 1: James du Casse (main story)
This one is automatic. Play through the This Old Cove quest with James Kidd, assassinate James du Casse on his boat, and the key is yours. You will not even know it is a collectible at this point, but the Damn Fine Gear quest will open immediately after.
Key 2: Rhona Dinsmore (Havana)
Head to the Assassin's Bureau in Havana, located slightly northeast of the southernmost viewpoint on the island at coordinates 216, 569. You will hear gunfire as you approach. Rhona Dinsmore is under attack, and helping her sets off a series of missions involving defending her position, destroying enemy powder reserves, and ultimately hunting down the Templar Hilary Flint through the streets of Havana. The key comes off Flint's body after the chase.

Key 3: Upton Travers (Nassau)
Travel to Nassau and find the ally marker near a small wooden house toward the south of the island at coordinates 600, 756. The quest is labeled under Upton Travers on the map, though the actual story revolves around a dispute between two brothers, Upton and Vance Travers, over a map. The chain eventually leads to the pirate Jing Lang, known as the Queen of Pirates, who holds the Templar Key.
Key 4: Anto (Kingston)
Once "A Governor No Longer" is complete, head to the Assassin's Bureau in Kingston at coordinates 619, 161. Anto is waiting inside. His quest chain involves freeing his captured allies from Templar control and defending the Bureau against incoming attacks. The final target is the Templar Kenneth Abraham, who is taken down at a party, and the key is grabbed during the escape.
Key 5: Opia Apito (Cayman Sound)
Cayman Sound sits at coordinates 304, 311 and is surrounded by hostile ships, so approach with care. The Jackdaw will take fire on the way in. How do you unlock the Templar Armor?
Once all five keys are in hand, return to the manor house in Great Inagua. At the back of the main room sits a gate with five locks. Use each key on its corresponding lock and the gate opens. Inside you will find:
- Templar Armor (a light armor set)
- Templar Cross Trinket (reduces melee damage taken when equipped)
- 10,000 Reales
- 45 Bones
The Templar Cross Trinket is arguably the more useful reward for players who spend a lot of time in direct combat. The armor looks distinct and the Reales injection is a solid bonus at whatever stage you finish this quest.
Completing all five keys also closes out the Damn Fine Gear quest permanently.
What else should you do at Great Inagua?
While you are back at the manor, it is worth checking your progress on all Great Inagua hideout upgrades, since several buildings unlock passive bonuses that make the rest of the game considerably easier.
