The Upton Travers Templar Hunt is one of four side quests standing between you and the Templar Armor in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. This particular hunt covers two brothers, a scheming pirate named Jing Lang, a very eventful night at the tavern, and a final assassination in the swamps east of Nassau. It spans four connected missions and rewards you with the third Templar Key once complete. Here's everything you need to know.
Where do you start the Upton Travers Templar Hunt?
Vance Travers is your entry point into this quest chain, not Upton himself. Head to the Eleuthera region on the island of Nassau and look for him standing outside a small wooden house toward the south of the island. Speak to him and he'll ask you to track down his brother Upton Travers and locate his hideout. That conversation kicks off the first mission.

Mission 1: Oh Brother...
Your first objective sends you north toward a nearby market. Once you enter the Explore area marked on your map, activate Eagle Vision to spot Upton's men highlighted in green.
From here, you have two approaches:
- Tail Upton's men — Stay undetected and follow them. They'll lead you directly to Upton's hideout, keeping the Explore zone on your map at full size.
- Kill Upton's men — If you get spotted, fighting them is a valid fallback. The Explore area shrinks significantly after the fight, making Upton much easier to find on foot.
Either way, head west once the dust settles. Upton Travers will be standing in the center of his hideout. Wait for the guards to clear, then move in for the assassination. He'll stop you mid-attempt and redirect the quest entirely.
Mission 2: The Other Brother
Upton asks you to meet him at the bureau in Nassau, marked on your map. Speak to him there, then follow him as he leads you to a vantage point. When he prompts you to hide, duck into the nearby bushes and eavesdrop on the conversation between Upton and Vance.
After the brothers talk, follow Upton again. Midway through the escort, you'll be tasked with eliminating Jing Lang's men. Deal with them, then investigate the house they had surrounded. On the right side of the building, sitting on a wooden crate, is a letter from Jing Lang. It reveals that Vance has taken his half of a map to meet her.
Speak with Upton, then follow your quest marker to the tavern where Vance and Jing Lang are meeting. Eavesdrop on their conversation without being spotted. You'll learn that Vance has hired someone to kill Upton so he and Jing Lang can steal Upton's half of the map.
Now you need to move fast. Return to Upton's hideout; he'll already be under attack when you arrive. Fight off the soldiers until the area is clear, then speak to Upton. He relocates north to the tavern, which is your next destination to begin Mission 3.
Mission 3: Upton's Sorrow
This one is more chaotic than dangerous. A very drunk Upton confides in you at the tavern, then immediately starts a brawl. Clear out his attackers, then begin escorting him home.
The journey is short but eventful:
- Dancers — Upton solicits some dancers along the route. Pay them 100 Reules to send them on their way and keep the escort moving.
- Public indecency — Upton decides to relieve himself in the street, which draws the attention of nearby guards. Eliminate them to continue.
- Final conversation — Once the guards are down, a prompt to talk to Upton will appear. This conversation ends the escort sequence.

Mission 4: Queen of Pirates, King of Fools
Track Upton's updated map marker to a location in the east of the island. He's considerably more coherent now. After speaking with him, you receive your final objective: assassinate Vance Travers to recover the Templar Key. Vance is in the swamp east of your current position.
Here's how to navigate the finale cleanly:
- Parkour through the trees heading toward the swamp. You'll reach some guards loading a boat; kill them.
- Activate Eagle Vision and look north. A glowing green marker near a white tent marks Vance's position.
- Fight through any guards between you and the tent, then assassinate Vance Travers.
After the cutscene, Jing Lang flees into the swamp. Chase her down and assassinate her. This hands you the third Templar Key.
Before the quest closes out completely, return to Upton and inform him of what happened. That final conversation wraps the entire Templar Hunt.

Completing the Upton Travers chain earns you the third Templar Key. Two more remain after this one, and collecting all five unlocks the Templar Armor, one of the better armor sets available for Edward during the mid-game.
