Big Walk Guide: How to Get the Backpack

One of the first things Big Walk teaches you is that you can't carry much. The game puts serious restrictions on what each player can hold, which turns item management into its own puzzle. The Backpack is the answer to that problem, and knowing where to find one early saves a lot of backtracking. It also unlocks the Big Pack achievement, which is one of the easier trophies to grab if you know what to look for.

Where to find the Backpack in Big Walk

Every Backpack in the game sits inside a blue, circular building. That's the consistent rule across all locations. Once you recognize the structure type, spotting them becomes second nature.

The earliest chance to grab one comes at the red tower. Climb to the top, pick up the binoculars, and look down the hill. The blue building is visible from that vantage point. Head down to it and the Backpack is inside, ready to collect.

tip
The binoculars at the top of the red tower are specifically useful for scouting the blue building's location. Don't skip them on your first visit up there.

More blue buildings appear as you push further into the island, each holding one additional Backpack. Each location only stocks a single Backpack, so you'll need to visit multiple buildings to equip the whole group. If you're playing with a larger party, plan your routes to hit as many of these structures as possible. For more on navigating the island's key locations, the guide on how to get the map is worth reading before you head out.

How does the Backpack work in Big Walk?

The Backpack lets you carry an item on your back, which sounds straightforward until you hit the two big restrictions.

First, you cannot put on or remove the Backpack yourself. Another player has to do it for you. The same rule applies when you want to access whatever is stored in it. This is a deliberate co-op design choice, and it means a lone player gets almost no benefit from finding one.

Second, the Backpack holds one item. That's it. There is one exception that allows carrying two puzzle-reward items once unlocked, but the base capacity is a single slot. This makes every packing decision a group conversation.

warning
Don't assume the Backpack solves your inventory problems outright. With only one slot and the requirement for a partner to help you access it, you'll still need to make tough calls about what to leave behind.

The carry restrictions are part of what makes Big Walk's co-op so deliberate. Decisions about which items to prioritize become genuinely interesting when space is this limited. If you're still figuring out the co-op side of things, the guide on how many players can play Big Walk explains how group size affects your options.

How to unlock the Big Pack achievement

The Big Pack achievement triggers when you find and pick up a Backpack. There's no additional condition beyond that. Reach the red tower, spot the blue building from the top using the binoculars, collect the Backpack inside, and the achievement pops.

It's one of the more accessible trophies in the game, especially compared to some of the harder unlocks. For a full breakdown of every trophy and what each one requires, the Big Walk trophy list covers all 12 achievements.

What else is in the blue buildings?

The blue circular buildings don't only hold Backpacks. Other key items can appear in these structures too, so it's worth checking every one you find even after your group is fully equipped. The buildings act as general supply points scattered across the island, and missing one could mean leaving behind something useful.

After testing multiple runs through the early areas, the red tower remains the most reliable first stop for a Backpack. Players who skip the binocular step at the top often miss the blue building entirely and spend extra time searching on foot.

For a broader look at how items and progression connect across the whole game, the Big Walk guides collection has everything from compass locations to belt pickups organized in one place.
