Big Walk Review: Beyond the 'Friendslop' Label, a Quietly Brilliant Game | PCMag

Big Walk throws a lot of items at you across its island, and keeping track of what you need versus what you can actually carry is one of the game's quieter challenges. The Belt is one of the more useful finds for co-op play, expanding your gear options and unlocking the Big Help achievement when you pick it up. Here's exactly where to look and what to do with it once you have it.

Where is the Belt located?

The Belt spawns inside the blue, circular structures scattered across the map. These buildings look identical to the ones that contain Backpacks, so there's no visual shortcut to tell you which item is inside before you enter. Both are worth grabbing, so check every blue structure you come across.

If you want the fastest route to a Belt rather than hunting blind, start from the game's starting area. Head left and up the hill, then pass through the large gateway opening (this requires the doors to have already been opened from the other side). Keep climbing the hill after the gateway until you spot a large red circle on the ground. Look further up the hill from there and you'll see a blue circular structure in the distance. That building contains a Backpack, but the same type of structure nearby on the map holds the Belt, so use this route as your orientation point for the area.

tip
Both Belts and Backpacks share the same blue circular building design. If a structure gives you a Backpack, keep exploring nearby for another one that may hold the Belt.

What does the Belt actually do?

The Belt works similarly to the Backpack in that it gives you extra carrying capacity on your adventure. The key difference is what it holds: the Belt can carry either a radio (for listening to music) or a walkie-talkie (for communicating with other players across distances).

This makes it a communication tool as much as a storage item, which is especially valuable when your group spreads out across the island.

warning
You cannot put on or take off the Belt yourself. Another player must equip it for you, and you also cannot interact with the item stored on the Belt directly. Solo players get no benefit from this item.

How does the Belt compare to the Backpack?

The Backpack is the more flexible of the two for general item management, but the Belt fills a specific role in group play. If your team is regularly splitting up to cover more ground, having a walkie-talkie on your Belt keeps communication open without tying up a hand slot.

tip
Picking up the Belt for the first time unlocks the Big Help achievement, so it's worth tracking down even if you're not sure you need the extra slot right away.

Is the Belt worth getting?

For solo players, the Belt has no practical value since you can't equip it without help. For groups of two or more, it's a solid quality-of-life upgrade, particularly if you're playing with a large party spread across the map. A walkie-talkie on your Belt means you can stay in contact without holding the device, freeing up your carry slots for other items.

Given that Big Walk supports up to 12 players, coordination becomes a real logistical challenge at higher player counts. The Belt addresses exactly that problem.

Tips for finding gear efficiently

  • Prioritize blue structures whenever you see them. They always contain either a Belt or a Backpack, both of which expand your options.
  • Work with your group to divide and check structures across the map rather than clustering together and missing buildings.
  • Open doors from both sides before attempting to reach the starting area hill route, otherwise the gateway won't be accessible.
  • The Belt requires a teammate to equip, so coordinate with your group before you pick it up to make sure someone is ready to help.
