The Gate of Flesh sits deep in the Catacombs of Paris, sealed behind a door covered in eyes and organic tissue. Opening it requires three specific relics equipped at the same time: the Thrilling Eye, the Trembling Eye, and the Oozing Eye. Miss even one, and the door stays shut.

Here's the short answer: collect all three Eye relics from the Hospital, Pillaged Tombs, and Circle of Greed, equip them in your three relic slots, then interact with the door. That gets you into Mammon's Lair.

What is the Gate of Flesh and why does it matter?

The Gate of Flesh is a locked passage in the Circle of Greed area of the Catacombs of Paris. Behind it sits Mammon's Lair, home to the boss associated with The Miser Arcana. Defeating Mammon rewards you with the Wheel of Chaos spell and the Ferryman's Obol keepsake, which you need to unlock The Whisperer Arcana and the Freezing Path spell from the Ferryman. That spell is required for a later trial, so this is not optional content you can skip.

Before heading out to collect the Eyes, make sure you have the Smash ability unlocked. You get it from the Talos boss fight in the Clock Tower. Without Smash, you cannot reach the Hospital entrance or break the platform in the Pillaged Tombs route.

How to get the Thrilling Eye

Head to Street of the Tomb Masons in Paris Streets. This is near the route leading into Holy Innocents' Cemetery. Once you are standing on the correct floor section, use Smash (press down and jump while airborne) to break through into the Hospital entrance below.

Inside the Hospital, work your way down through the building. The relic sits on a pedestal in the lowest section, guarded by enemies. Clear them out, then pick up the Thrilling Eye. After collecting it, use the nearby exit rather than climbing back up through the Hospital floors.

How to get the Trembling Eye

Return to the Fountain of the Innocents in Holy Innocents' Cemetery. The entrance to Pillaged Tombs is below the ruins, behind a closed passage. To open it:

  1. Head east from the blocked downward passage.
  2. Slide through the gap above the traps.
  3. Activate the hidden lever.
  4. Return to the now-open passage and drop into Pillaged Tombs.
  5. Defeat the enemies in the sealed combat room.
  6. Use Smash on the breakable platform to the left.

After breaking the platform, an exploding ball begins pursuing Rose through the next section. Keep moving and do not stop to fight. Follow the traps toward the upper section, where the Trembling Eye sits waiting. A lever near the relic opens a shorter exit back out, so you do not need to retrace the whole route.

The mistake most players make here is stopping to engage enemies while the exploding ball is active. Keep moving forward and deal with any enemies only after the hazard has passed.

How to get the Oozing Eye

From the Ferryman's Wharf in the Catacombs of Paris, take the left route from the Collapsed Path of Orpheus. Climb through the anchor and spinning-blade section, then take the left path into the Antechamber of Sin.

Continue left past the Gate of Flesh in the Circle of Greed. Follow the blade-filled corridor into the large relic chamber. The Oozing Eye is locked behind doors that only open once you clear the arena battle inside. Defeat all the enemies around the central platform, then collect the relic.

The path east of the relic chamber leads directly back to the Gate of Flesh, making the Oozing Eye the most logical final stop. Collect it last and you can walk straight to the door.

How to open the Gate of Flesh

Once you have all three Eye relics, the process is straightforward:

  1. Open the Equipment menu.
  2. Select the Relics tab.
  3. Equip the Thrilling Eye in one slot.
  4. Equip the Trembling Eye in a second slot.
  5. Equip the Oozing Eye in the third slot.
  6. Close the menu.
  7. Approach the Gate of Flesh in the Circle of Greed.
  8. Interact with the gate.

The door opens into Mammon's Lair. If the gate does not respond, check your relic slots again. All three Eyes must be actively equipped, not just collected.

How to defeat Mammon

Mammon fights inside a chamber overflowing with gold. The boss uses floor-level attacks and energy beams that cover wide sections of the arena. The overhead grapple rings are your best tool here: use the Arcane Whip to stay airborne and avoid ground attacks entirely.

When energy beams appear, move through the gaps rather than trying to attack through them. Mammon becomes vulnerable after hovering or finishing an offensive sequence. That is your window to deal damage. Spells work well here since you can cast from a distance while repositioning.

After winning, search the gold hoard in Mammon's Lair to collect the Ferryman's Obol. Bring it to any Ferryman's Wharf and speak to him to receive The Whisperer Arcana and the Freezing Path spell.

Frequently asked questions

Can I equip other relics alongside the three Eyes? No. The Gate of Flesh requires all three Eye relics to fill your three relic slots simultaneously. There is no room for a fourth relic while the door is sealed. Once Mammon is defeated, you can swap back to your preferred loadout.

What happens if I try to enter the gate without all three Eyes? Nothing. The door simply does not respond. Double-check the Relics tab in your Equipment menu to confirm all three are equipped, not just in your inventory.

Do I need any movement abilities beyond Smash? Smash is mandatory for reaching the Hospital and the Pillaged Tombs route. The Arcane Whip is needed for the Catacombs traversal sections leading to the Oozing Eye. Having Aerial Rush also opens additional shortcuts through the area, though it is not strictly required for the three Eye locations.

What is the Ferryman's Obol used for? Take it to any Ferryman's Wharf and hand it over. The Ferryman gives you The Whisperer Arcana and the Freezing Path spell in return. That spell is required for one of the four virtue trials needed to unlock the True Ending.
