The Sage questline is one of the more quietly demanding side objectives in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. You meet Eleanor trapped inside a Mirror of Life early on, and the game gives you just enough clues to know something needs to be done, without spelling out exactly what or where. Breaking her free requires tracking down four hidden Mirror Seals spread across different regions, then fighting your way through a fog-choked labyrinth to defeat the Temptress boss. The payoff is Mirror Walk, one of the most useful survival spells in the game.

What triggers the Sage quest?

The quest begins the moment you interact with the Mirror of Life that holds Eleanor. The mirror looks different from standard fast-travel mirrors because it carries The Sage's Seal engraved on its surface. Picking up the A Sketch From Talos clue in the Builder's Bureau inside the Clock Tower makes the objective much clearer: four seals are holding Eleanor prisoner, and each one is attached to a Mirror of Life in a separate region of the game.

Where are all four Mirror Seals?

The four seals are spread across Paris Street, the Main Hall, the Clock Tower, and Notre-Dame. Each one requires you to bow in front of the marked Mirror of Life to enter the Hall of Mirrors, break the seal inside, and then clear the wave of enemies that spawns before you can exit.

Paris Street seal

The first seal is on the Mirror of Life inside the Prison Tower, specifically the one in the middle. Fast travel to the nearest standard mirror, head to the Prison Tower, and bow before the engraved Mirror of Life to enter. Break the seal above the mirror, defeat the enemy wave, and leave.

Main Hall seal

This one takes a bit more navigation. Starting from the Ferryman's Wharf, move northeast and climb to the upper floor using your available abilities. From the statue, take the upper eastern route, then pass through the dimensional door into the Servant's Hall. Continue northwest until you reach the Mirror of Life in the Archive. Bow before it and repeat the seal-breaking process.

Clock Tower seal

The Clock Tower seal sits on the Mirror of Life in the Mechanic's Ascent, on the left side of the zone. Reaching it requires movement abilities including Arcana Whip, Holy Light, Aerial Rush, and Smash. Make sure you have all of these unlocked before attempting this one, otherwise you will hit a wall partway through the climb.

Notre-Dame seal

The fourth and final seal is in the Notre-Dame East Gallery. The process is identical to the previous three: find the engraved Mirror of Life, bow before it, break the seal, and clear the enemies. With this done, all four of Eleanor's seals are broken.

How to unlock the Hall of Mirrors as a travel destination

After breaking all four seals, head to the Main Hall Mirror Rooms. Interacting with a Mirror of Life there unlocks the Hall of Mirrors as a proper fast-travel destination. This is what opens up the path to the Temptress and, ultimately, Eleanor herself.

How to navigate the Hall of Mirrors

The Hall of Mirrors is deliberately disorienting. The entire area is blanketed in fog with no clear path forward, and it stays that way until the Temptress is defeated. Three types of reflections appear throughout the zone, and each one does something different when you kneel before it:

Reflection ColorEffect When You Kneel
BlueShows you the correct direction to proceed
RedAttacks you with your own reflection
NormalTeleports you back to the starting area if you are lost

Use the blue reflections as your compass through the fog. The red ones are traps worth avoiding unless you want an unexpected fight. If you get completely turned around, kneeling before a normal reflection resets your position to the entrance, which is frustrating but better than wandering indefinitely.

Where is the Temptress?

The Temptress is located southeast of the Hall of Mirrors Ferryman's Wharf. From the Ferryman's Wharf, drop down from the right side and follow the path southeast. The fog makes this harder than it sounds, so use the blue reflections to stay on track.

Once the Temptress is down, the fog clears permanently. After the fight, interact with any nearby Mirror of Life to trigger Eleanor's final clue, which reveals that she freed herself once her seals were broken.

Where to find Eleanor after defeating the Temptress

Eleanor is waiting in the Tomb of the Noble Queen, located in the western section of Holy Innocents' Cemetery within the Mausoleum of the Queens district. Fast travel to Holy Innocents' Cemetery, move west through the Mausoleum of the Queens, and you will find her at the Tomb of the Noble Queen.

What does Mirror Walk do?

Mirror Walk costs 80 MP to cast. On the first cast, Rose places a mirror at her current position. Recasting the spell teleports her back to that mirror's location and restores 50% of the health she lost since placing it. The mirror lasts 15 seconds or disappears the moment she teleports to it.

This makes Mirror Walk one of the better panic buttons in the game, especially during tough boss fights where you want a safe fallback position.

Mirror Walk Gifts (upgrades)

Unlocking Blessings through Works of Mercy upgrades Mirror Walk with three additional Gifts:

  • If Rose teleports without having taken any damage since placing the mirror, she recovers 80% of the MP spent on the cast.
  • Rose deals significant damage to enemies along her teleportation path.
  • A fatal hit while a mirror is active prevents death and triggers automatic teleportation. This can only activate once per use but recharges when Rose visits a Save Room.

The Sage Works of Mercy

To unlock all three Gifts, you need to complete the following Works of Mercy:

  • Use 34 Save Rooms.
  • Heal 1000 health points total using Mirror Walk.
  • Kill 5 enemies within 3 seconds of dodging their attacks via teleportation.

The 34 Save Rooms challenge fills in naturally over a full playthrough. The kill-with-teleportation challenge is the trickiest, requiring you to dodge an attack, immediately recast Mirror Walk, and land in a group of enemies within 3 seconds.

Clues that point to The Sage

Four clues exist in the world that hint at how to progress the Sage questline. Collecting them is not required to complete the quest, but they help if you are stuck:

Clue NameLocation
A Sketch From TalosBuilder's Bureau, Clock Tower
Kneeling is the WayLooping Hallways, Hall of Mirrors
Eleanor Flees to the CemeteryHeart of the Maze, Hall of Mirrors
The Reflection DeceivesSteps of Misdirection, Hall of Mirrors

The game has plenty of other hidden objectives worth hunting down. The Castlevania: Belmont's Curse strategy guides collection covers everything from legendary weapon puzzles to secret boss encounters, so check those out once you have Eleanor's Arcana in hand. For something immediately useful alongside Mirror Walk, the Judge Tarot puzzle and Valmanway sword guide walks you through another high-reward Arcana quest in the Palace of Justice. If you want to expand Rose's cosmetic options while you explore, the complete Rose Belmont skins unlock guide covers all 7 outfits and exactly how to get each one.
