Hunt the Death Cult in Season of Death Awakening — Diablo IV — Blizzard News

The Corrupted Reaper is Season 14's new lair boss in Diablo IV, and she's worth farming repeatedly for guaranteed high-item-power gear and a shot at Mythic Uniques. Getting to her takes a bit of setup, but once you know the quest chain and her attack patterns, she becomes a reliable endgame loop for the next three months.

How do you unlock the Corrupted Reaper?

You can't just walk up to the Pandemonium Rift and start fighting. The Corrupted Reaper is locked behind Season 14's main questline, so you need to finish three quests in order: Rising Tide, Setting Sun, and The Looming Night.

Before any of that, you must reach Torment I difficulty. Torment I is a hard requirement for completing Rising Tide and Setting Sun, so if you're still grinding up to that threshold, focus on your power level first. Check out our Season 14 Death Awakening questline walkthrough if you need a step-by-step breakdown of every quest leading up to this point.

Once all three quests are done, head to Zarbinzet and enter the Pandemonium Rift. The summoning pedestal inside is where you'll trigger the encounter. One important thing to have ready before you go: a Greater Lair Key. You don't need it to start the fight, but you do need it to open the cache she drops when defeated. Going in without one means leaving rewards on the table.

How do you defeat the Corrupted Reaper?

The Corrupted Reaper is fast and punishes players who stand still. Her two biggest threats are her Soul Traps and the AoE damage from her teleport landing. Learn to read those two mechanics and the rest of the fight becomes manageable, especially in a group.

After testing her attacks across multiple runs, here's what she brings to the arena:

The Soul Dash is the attack that catches most players off guard. She will chain-trigger every trap sitting on her path, which can instantly shred your health if you've let traps stack up in one area. The fix is simple: don't cluster near existing traps, and never let her dash through a minefield you haven't cleared.

What rewards does the Corrupted Reaper drop?

Defeating the Corrupted Reaper and opening her cache with a Greater Lair Key gives you guaranteed Pandemonium Fragments every run. You're also guaranteed at least one piece of gear at 850 Item Power, which makes her a consistent upgrade source even outside of lucky drops.

The cache also has a chance to drop Mythic Uniques, but the odds scale with Torment difficulty. Higher Torment tiers improve your chances significantly, so push your difficulty as high as your build can handle before farming her. If you're still working on gearing up for higher Torment, our Mythic Unique farming guide from Season 13 covers the core loop that still applies to building a solid item foundation.
