Everything new in Diablo 4 Season 14 update

Season 14 of Diablo IV brings a fresh storyline centered on a sinister death cult called the Ullo Sar, with you working alongside an NPC named Dannica to uncover and stop their rituals. The questline runs from a simple letter pickup in Kyovashad all the way through Helltide encounters, a Realmwalker fight, and a dungeon clear before gating you behind Torment 1 difficulty. Here's every step, in order, so nothing catches you off guard.

How do you unlock the Season 14 questline?

Before any quest marker appears, you need a Seasonal Character. Season 14 content is locked to the Seasonal Realm, so your Eternal Realm characters won't see any of this. Create a new character and select the Seasonal Realm during setup.

If you've already finished the main campaign and any DLC prologues you own, the game lets you skip straight past all of that story content on new characters. Players who own both Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred can skip both expansion campaigns as well. That means a returning player can go from character creation to the seasonal questline in a matter of minutes.

Pick up Tyrael's letter first

Once your Seasonal Character loads into the world, travel to Kyovashad via the waypoint. The Letter from Tyrael sits near the waypoint itself. Picking it up automatically unlocks the first quest, Gospel of Despair, and kicks off the entire Season 14 chain.

Progressing through each quest also earns Glints of Hope, which feed into your Season Reputation Rank. There are 24 ranks total, so the questline is just the start of that grind.

Gospel of Despair: where do you start?

After grabbing the Letter from Tyrael near Kyovashad's waypoint, head to Zarbinzet. Dannica is located slightly west of the Zarbinzet waypoint. Speak with her to hear what she knows about the death cult operating in the region. She'll hand you the Message of Ullo Sar and fill in the background on what you're up against. Keep interacting until the quest stage fully completes before moving on.

Sins of Ullo Sar: how do you find the cult?

This quest sends you into Helltides to track down the Ullo Sar cult. You're looking for Death's Head Idol encounters scattered through the Helltide zone. Fighting through those encounters progresses the quest, and you'll also run into a Realmwalker during this phase.

Once you've dealt with the enemies and gathered what you need, return to Zarbinzet and report your findings to Dannica. Walk her through what the cult has been doing, and the quest wraps up, unlocking the next one immediately.

Across the Threshold: how do you beat the Realmwalker?

This is the most involved quest in the chain. You need to kill a Realmwalker, which you can do two ways:

  • Helltide method: Close Surging Ruptures during an active Helltide event. Realmwalkers don't spawn constantly, so you may need to wait for a new round after clearing one.
  • Colossal Rupture method: Watch for a Colossal Rupture that can open randomly near Zarbinzet. This triggers the Realmwalker world event, which shows a timer on the map screen.

The Realmwalker world event near Zarbinzet is generally the faster route since it has a visible timer and doesn't require you to grind through Helltide rounds waiting for a spawn.

After the Realmwalker goes down, a portal appears at its location. Take that portal to enter the Deathtoll Chamber. Don't follow the map marker to a separate area; the portal at the kill site is the correct entrance.

Inside the Deathtoll Chamber, clear the enemies as fast as possible. Defeating them quickly expands the Ritual Circle, which unlocks bonus rewards on top of the standard loot. Once the chamber is cleared, head back to Zarbinzet and speak with Dannica to finish the quest.

Rising Tide, Setting Sun: how do you unlock Torment 1?

This quest has a hard progression gate: you need to reach Torment 1 difficulty. Two requirements must both be met:

  • Hit the max character level (level 60)
  • Clear Tier 10 of the Artificer's Pit

Once both are done and you've selected Torment 1 difficulty, return to Zarbinzet and speak with Dannica to complete the quest. This is the part of the chain that will take the most time for players who are still leveling. The Looming Night

This quest stage exists in the chain but details are still being confirmed as players progress through the season. Check back as more information becomes available.

Glints of Hope: what are the 24 reputation ranks?

Glints of Hope is the Season 14 reputation currency. You earn it by completing activities across Sanctuary, including defeating Ullo Sar cultists and helping NPCs. Every quest you complete in the seasonal chain contributes Glints of Hope toward your Season Reputation Rank.

There are 24 ranks total, and the Glint thresholds scale up significantly at the higher end:

The jump from Rank 15 to 16 is where the grind gets serious. Ranks 1 through 15 require a combined 8,490 Glints; getting from Rank 16 to 24 demands roughly 56,000 more. Treat the questline as your fast start, then plan your Helltide and Pit farming around hitting those later ranks.

Tips for moving through the questline faster

  • Start on Normal difficulty if you just want to clear the story quests quickly, then bump the difficulty up for endgame farming.
  • The Realmwalker event near Zarbinzet has a map timer, making it easier to plan than waiting for Helltide spawns.
  • Earning Glints of Hope from the questline alone won't get you far into the reputation ranks; you'll want to run Helltides and other seasonal activities in parallel.
  • If you're pushing toward Torment 1 for Rising Tide, Setting Sun, Tier 10 of the Artificer's Pit is the real blocker for most players, not the level requirement.
