Ultima Weapon sits on Ardra Crater waiting for you after the credits roll. It is level 70, carries 3,900,000 HP, and cycles through four distinct combat modes, each with its own weaknesses and its own way of making your life miserable. You cannot flee. The fight is entirely about reading which mode is active and hitting the right two elements before it either kills your party or heals itself back to full.
This is the endgame challenge in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE, and the party that wins is the one that brings all eight elements and never stops paying attention to the mode indicator.

Track the active mode carefully
How do you find Ultima Weapon?
Finish the main story and reload your cleared save. Back on the airship, a crew member named Evan flags a signal coming from Ardra, the empty continent in the southeast corner of the world map. Fly there and Ultima Weapon is standing in the open crater, no dungeon required. It is an optional encounter, so nothing forces you to go, but the rewards make the trip worthwhile.
What are Ultima Weapon's stats and resistances?
The numbers matter here because the stagger gauge is large enough that hitting the wrong elements genuinely costs you the fight.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Level | 70 |
| HP | 3,900,000 |
| Stagger gauge | 5,000 |
| Strength | 3,840 |
| Magic | 1,024 |
| Stamina | 650 |
| Spirit | 650 |
| Speed | 500 |
| Type | Machina |
Ultima Weapon is immune to Poison, Sleep, Silence, Confusion, Petrify, Charm, Berserk, Slow, magic attack down, magic defense down, Instant Death, and Gravity. It has a 50% resistance to Paralysis. Blind, physical attack down, and physical defense down all land normally, which matters when you are choosing debuffs.
What are the four modes and their weaknesses?
This is the core mechanic. Ultima Weapon announces each mode shift by name, so keep the table below somewhere accessible during the fight. Hitting a resisted element cuts your damage and stagger contribution in half.
| Mode | Weak to | Halves | Vulnerable to (debuffs) | Main threat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Modus Infernus (opening) | Wind, Water | Fire, Earth | Blind, physical attack down, physical defense down | Physical: Thwack (party-wide), Full power! (single target), Deprotega, Bravery on itself |
| Modus Keraunos | Ice, Earth | Wind, Lightning | Blind, Slow | Ailments at Speed 999: Paralysis, Silence, Sleep, Poison, Confusion, Slow, Blind, Berserk, Doom |
| Modus Cocytus | Fire, Light | Ice, Dark | Magic attack down, magic defense down | Gravija (75% current HP), Darkga, Execution (party-wide), Blizzaga Barrage, Deshellga |
| Modus Nemea | Lightning, Dark | Water, Light | Paralysis, Slow, physical and magic attack down, physical and magic defense down | Curaga on itself, Recuperate (refills stagger gauge), Mighty Guard, Mighty Aura, Dispelga, Negation |
In every mode, Ultima Weapon retains Ultima Beam (a party-wide magic devastating attack) and Colossal Energy Draw (raises all its own stats). A successful stagger cancels Ultima Beam, so building the gauge before it charges is the single most important thing you can do on any turn.

Fill the gauge before Ultima Beam
What is the best party for Ultima Weapon?
The recommended setup covers every mode with at least two elemental answers per character.
Sakura with Tronn is the anchor. She covers Lightning and Dark for Modus Nemea, Light for Modus Cocytus, and Tronn adds Blizzard for Keraunos and Fire for Cocytus as backup. No other single character covers three modes.
Nichol with Terra handles Water for Modus Infernus and Terra's Blizzard for Modus Keraunos. With his Limit Burst Mirroring Prism active, he can double another character's action count, which accelerates stagger dramatically.
Fina with Leah fills the healer role. Luminant Cannon lands Light damage on Modus Cocytus, Esuna clears Keraunos's ailment spam, Curaga keeps the party alive after Gravija, and Reraise on the healer before Keraunos starts is the difference between a recoverable situation and a wipe.
Here is how each character's strongest elemental skills contribute to stagger (gauge is 5,000):
| Character | Skill | Element | Mode targeted | Stagger power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nichol | Aqua Blast | Water | Infernus | 105 |
| Fina | Luminant Cannon | Light | Cocytus | 105 |
| Sakura | Blighted Gloom | Dark | Nemea | 105 |
| Lasswell | Absolving Hailstorm | Ice | Keraunos | 96 |
| Sakura | Tonitus | Lightning | Nemea | 90 |
| Rain | Banishing Raid | Fire | Cocytus | 90 |
| Jake | Gale Strike | Wind | Infernus | 75 |
| Lid | Mechabo Kick | Earth | Keraunos | 75 |

How does the fight play out mode by mode?
Modus Infernus: the opener
Ultima Weapon starts here and stays until it decides to shift. Wind and Water are the targets. Its Strength stat is 3,840, which is not a typo, so Protectga from Rain if he is in your party reduces the physical punishment. Full power! hits one character for enormous physical damage, so keep everyone's HP high rather than letting one person sit low.
Modus Keraunos: the ailment wall
Switch to Ice and Earth immediately. Keraunos acts at Speed 999, meaning it moves before every character in your party on the first action of every turn. Almost every move it has inflicts an ailment, including Doom via Disaster. Accept that this phase is about staying functional, not dealing maximum damage. Esuna on whoever matters most, and keep Reraise on Fina active throughout.
Modus Cocytus: the HP drain
Fire and Light. Gravija removes 75% of everyone's current HP in one hit, so heal immediately after it lands. The follow-up Darkga or Execution can finish off anyone left at low HP. The priority order is: heal after Gravija, then damage, then stagger.
Modus Nemea: the race
Lightning and Dark, and everything you have. Recuperate refills the stagger gauge, Dispelga removes your buffs, and Curaga heals Ultima Weapon itself. Every turn Nemea spends active without a stagger is a turn that potentially undoes several rounds of work. Break it fast.
What does a stagger actually do?
A stagger skips Ultima Weapon's next turn, lets every party member act again, and increases the damage it takes by 50%. With 3.9 million HP, you will need multiple staggers across the full fight. Each one also cancels Ultima Beam if it is charging, which prevents the most damaging hit in Ultima Weapon's kit.
What rewards does Ultima Weapon drop?
Beating Ultima Weapon pays out:
- 300,000 EXP
- 500,000 Gil
- 1 Megalixir
- Ultima Reactor accessory (raises stagger power and damage dealt, scaling with how much HP you have remaining)
The Ultima Reactor is the reason to keep your party healthy throughout the fight rather than letting HP drop. Its bonus is largest when you finish the fight at high HP, so defensive play pays off twice.
What do you do if the fight is going wrong?
Three specific failure states come up repeatedly:
Damage dropped by half suddenly. Ultima Weapon changed mode and you are hitting a resisted element. Check the current mode and switch elements immediately.
The stagger gauge emptied on its own. Recuperate fired in Modus Nemea. Prioritize breaking Nemea on every future rotation.
Everyone is paralysed, asleep, or confused at once. Modus Keraunos at Speed 999. If Fina is down and Reraise was not active, this is likely a wipe. For the next attempt, slot Reraise on Fina before the fight begins.
