Espers in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE look familiar if you've played classic Final Fantasy titles, but they behave differently than the summons you might remember. Only Fina can call them into battle, each summon costs 50 MP, and you have no direct control over what they do once they arrive. They act three times on their own, hit hard with their closing move, then vanish. No charge meter, no cooldown beyond Fina's MP pool. That simplicity makes them easy to use and easy to overlook, which is a mistake.
There are 9 Espers total across the game, spread from Chapter 1 through Chapter 7. Collecting all of them earns the Sovereigns of the Planet trophy/achievement. Most require you to track them down and beat them in a fight before Fina can summon them. A few come through side quests. One waits until you've found every other Esper first.

Fina's Esper summon screen
How do Espers work in Final Fantasy Resonance?
Fina is the only party member who can summon Espers. Each one costs 50 MP to call in. Once summoned, the Esper stays on the field for three turns, using a different ability each turn before finishing with its strongest attack. You can't choose which skill it uses or which enemy it targets. Your support spells do apply to it, though, so buffing Fina before a summon isn't wasted.
After the Esper leaves, you can summon it again on Fina's next turn provided she has the MP. There's no limit beyond that. If Fina runs dry on MP mid-fight, stock up on Ethers before tough encounters.
Unlike Visions, which characters equip to gain passive abilities and stat bonuses, Espers are active combatants. They deal their own damage, sometimes apply status effects, and exit with a finishing move. Think of them as temporary party members with a fixed script. Check the best skills and ability combos for every role to see how Fina's MP-focused builds pair with heavy Esper use.
All 9 Esper locations and how to unlock them
Espers are scattered across the world map and typically live in caves or dungeons. Towns often have NPCs with exclamation marks over their heads who hint at Esper locations, and that information gets pinned to the world map once you hear it. You don't have to track down those hints to find the Espers, but they do make navigation easier.
Some of these fights are harder than the mandatory chapter bosses nearby. If an Esper is wrecking you, leave and come back at a higher level. They won't go anywhere.

Ramuh at Mt. Thunderclap summit
| Esper | Element | Chapter available | Location | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Siren | Wind | 1 | Siren's Tower | Mandatory story boss. Defeat her and she joins automatically. |
| Ramuh | Lightning | 2 | Mt. Thunderclap summit, Dirnado | Enter from the northeastern entrance near Zidane's Shrine of Light. Interact with the stone monument near the save point and defeat him. He is level 20 and weak to earth. |
| Carbuncle | N/A | 3 | Ruby Cave, Olderion | Read the riddle on the stone tablet in Ruby Cave. Collect three Ruby Fragments near Aquapolis in the correct order (the map marks them). Return to the tablet and examine it again. |
| Titan | Earth | 4 (accessible Ch. 5) | Rock northeast of Marauder's Cave, Grandshelt | Complete the Fledgling League Colosseum challenge to earn the Gaia Hammer for Lid. Use it to break the sealed rock, then fight Titan. He is level 30 and weak to wind. |
| Ifrit | Fire | 5 | Volcano crater, Zoldaad | After getting the airship, fly to the volcano west of Y'shtola's Shrine of Light and enter the crater. He is level 33 and weak to water. |
| Leviathan | Water | 5 | Aquapolis, Olderion | Complete Nichol's side quest "Nichol's Duty" in Aquapolis after unlocking the airship. |
| Shiva | Ice | 5 | Snowstorm on the western island of Mysidia | Touch the icy vortex west of Jotunn Cave and select Challenge. Defeat her in battle. She is weak to fire. |
| Odin | N/A | 6 | Bladerain Stele cave, Gronoa | After Fina learns Holy, head east in Gronoa to the Bladerain Stele cave and interact with the tablet to start the "Iron Splitter" side quest. Defeat Odin. He is level 45 and weak to electricity. |
| Bahamut | N/A | 7 | Airship | Collect all other 8 Espers first. Speak to Evan aboard the airship after the fight with Aether and select Yes when prompted. Defeat Bahamut in battle. |

Titan's sealing stone in Grandshelt
Where to find Espers early: chapters 1-3
Siren (Chapter 1)
Siren is the only Esper you can't miss. She's a mandatory boss at the top of Siren's Tower and joins your roster the moment you defeat her. She's a wind-element Esper and your introduction to how the system works.
Ramuh (Chapter 2)
Head to Mt. Thunderclap in Dirnado and use the northeastern entrance near Zidane's Shrine of Light, not the standard dungeon entrance. At level 20 with a weakness to earth, Ramuh is manageable in Chapter 2 if you've kept your party's gear current. Check the best early game weapons and equipment guide to make sure Rain and Lasswell are hitting hard enough before this fight.
Carbuncle (Chapter 3)
Carbuncle requires the most legwork of the early Espers. Start at the stone tablet in Ruby Cave, read the riddle, then hunt down three Ruby Fragments scattered around the Olderion Federation near Aquapolis. The game marks their positions on the mini-map, and you can only collect them in a fixed order, so you won't accidentally grab the wrong one first. Return to the tablet after collecting all three to complete the recruitment.
Where to find Espers in the mid-game: chapters 4-5
Chapter 5 is the biggest Esper haul in the game. Three Espers become available the moment you unlock the airship, and a fourth (Titan) technically opens up via the Colosseum during this stretch too.
Ifrit sits inside a volcano crater in Zoldaad and is weak to water. At level 33, he's a step up from Titan. Bring water-element skills and make sure Fina has enough MP to summon during the fight if things go sideways.
Leviathan is the odd one out in this group because there's no combat involved in the unlock itself. Completing Nichol's "Nichol's Duty" side quest in Aquapolis is all it takes.
Shiva is in a snowstorm on the western island of Mysidia. You need to find Mysidia first, then locate the icy vortex west of Jotunn Cave. She's weak to fire, so load up on fire-element skills before the challenge.
For Titan, the Colosseum in Grandshelt is the prerequisite. Win the Fledgling League challenge, earn the Gaia Hammer for Lid, then use it to break the sealed rock northeast of Marauder's Cave. Titan himself is level 30 and weak to wind.
Where to find the late-game Espers: chapters 6-7
Odin (Chapter 6)
Odin is the toughest Esper fight before Bahamut. At level 45 with a weakness to electricity, the fight itself is challenging. The unlock condition has a specific gate: Fina needs to have learned Holy first. Once she has, head east in Gronoa to the Bladerain Stele cave and examine the tablet inside to trigger the "Iron Splitter" side quest. Completing it leads directly to the Odin encounter.
Pairing the right Vision with Fina before this fight makes a real difference. The best Visions for every character guide covers which options give her the best edge in high-level fights like this one.
Bahamut (Chapter 7)
Bahamut is the final Esper and the gatekeeper for the Sovereigns of the Planet trophy. You need all 8 other Espers before he becomes available. After the fight with Aether in Chapter 7, talk to Evan aboard the airship and agree to go after the Esper. Defeat Bahamut in battle to add him to Fina's roster.
What's the best order to collect all Espers?
The most efficient path follows the chapter gates naturally. Siren and Ramuh are straightforward story-adjacent unlocks. Carbuncle takes a bit of exploration but is capped to Chapter 3. The real decision point is Chapter 5, where Ifrit, Leviathan, Shiva, and Titan all open up simultaneously.
Prioritize Leviathan first in Chapter 5 since it's a side quest with no fight attached. Then handle Titan via the Colosseum challenge, Shiva in Mysidia, and Ifrit in Zoldaad. Odin in Chapter 6 requires Fina's Holy ability, so don't attempt that cave before she has it.
