How to Fish Guide: How to Get Drip Creatures

How to Fish hides a surprisingly deep collectible system underneath its chaotic fishing-and-shooting loop. Drip creatures are rare variants of ordinary enemies, and while your first one will almost certainly appear without any effort on island 1, tracking down every last one is a different story. This guide covers exactly how to spot them, how to use the in-game encyclopedia to manage your checklist, and what you actually get for your trouble.

What are drip creatures in How to Fish?

A drip creature is a rare variant of a standard creature you already encounter through fishing and hunting. Nothing about its behavior changes, it still acts like the base version, but two things make it impossible to miss: its name appears in shifting rainbow text above it, and its skin is deliberately over-the-top. There is no hidden spawn trigger to learn and no special timing to nail. When one shows up, it announces itself.

The kill requirement is the part players sometimes overlook. Spotting a drip creature does not log it. You have to kill it, the same way you would any other creature, before it registers in your records.

How to find drip creatures across every island

There is no dedicated bait, lure, or route that guarantees a drip spawn. They surface inside your normal fishing and hunting sessions, so the method is straightforward.

  1. Play each island the way you normally would: fish from the boat and take out creatures on shore.
  2. Watch every name tag that appears. A rainbow-colored name means you have a drip variant in front of you.
  3. Kill it with whatever you have on hand. Punching works, shooting works.
  4. Once the island feels exhausted, move to the next one and repeat.

The spawn rate is not published anywhere, so patience matters more than any specific technique. Treat each island session as a sweep rather than a targeted farm.

tip
Press Tab before you start hunting each session to check your drip list. Knowing which variants you still need stops you from spending time on islands where everything is already logged.

How to use the Fishipedia to track missing drip variants

The in-game encyclopedia, opened with Tab, keeps drip variants as their own separate list alongside the standard creature entries. This turns what could be an aimless grind into a concrete checklist. Every variant you have killed shows as complete, and every one you have not shows as a gap.

The limitation worth knowing: the encyclopedia tells you which variants you are missing but never where to find them. It marks the gap without pointing to an island. Closing those gaps means reading your remaining entries and then hunting island by island until the blanks fill in.

For players chasing the Fishipedia achievement, this list is the only reliable progress tracker in the game.

warning
Do not assume a drip creature will show up on the first pass through an island. The encyclopedia gap just tells you it exists somewhere, not that it will spawn immediately.

What do drip creatures unlock?

Killing your first drip variant unlocks the Drip achievement. Killing every drip variant completes the Fishipedia achievement. Those are the two main rewards tied directly to the collectible system.

Beyond achievements, drip creatures function as currency for the Reel of Fortune, a slot machine found on every island. Insert a drip creature and the machine rolls for a weapon skin. Because the Reel of Fortune appears on all five islands, you are never far from a place to spend them.

The good news for anyone worried about wasting rare drops: drip creatures respawn indefinitely. Feeding one into the Reel of Fortune does not permanently remove it from your pool. You can keep hunting fresh ones and gambling as many times as you want.

When should you clean up missing drip creatures?

The most efficient time to finish your drip collection is after you beat the game. Completing the story drops you back onto island 1 with all five islands accessible and every piece of gear you earned still equipped. You can roam freely to wherever a missing variant might be without replaying story sequences.

That said, do not expect a shortcut. No fixed spawn route exists for any particular drip creature, so the post-game cleanup is a patient island-by-island sweep. The upside is that you have full gear and full map access, which makes each sweep faster than anything you could manage mid-story.

If you are working toward every achievement in the game, pairing this cleanup with the full trophy and achievement list is the cleanest way to track everything at once rather than bouncing between separate checklists.

tip
The post-game phase is also the best time to tackle any boss-related achievements you may have missed. All five islands stay open, so nothing is gated off.
