Marvel Rivals just flipped the script on standard 6v6 with a mode where one player controls a supercharged Loki against the original six Avengers. The Path to Doomsday: The Avengers event launched April 30 and runs until May 28, 2026, giving you just under a month to experience one of the most asymmetric setups the game has ever tried. Whether you want to crush the Avengers as Loki or coordinate a takedown as the hero team, here is exactly what you need to know.
What is the Path to Doomsday event in Marvel Rivals?
The Path to Doomsday is a series of limited-time modes tied to the lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday, which releases December 18, 2026. Each mode in the series draws inspiration from a different Avengers film. This first entry recreates the 2012 Avengers film, right down to the iconic circular hero shot that the official trailer on YouTube faithfully recreates before cutting to gameplay footage.
The mode runs on the Yggsgard: Royal Palace map and pits one player controlling an empowered Loki against a full team of six players as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Thor, Hawkeye, and Iron Man all retain their standard movesets from normal play. Black Widow's gameplay was not shown in the trailer, which has led to speculation among fans and creators on social media that a moveset rework for her may be in the works, given how frequently the community has flagged her low competitive viability.
The Path to Doomsday event is the first in a planned series. Subsequent modes inspired by later Avengers films are expected to arrive before December 2026, so this structure will repeat.
This is also the second new mode added since Season 7.5 launched. The PvE Blood Hunt mode arrived April 24, sending players through New York City maps to fight vampire hordes and boss encounters including Cap-Wolf, Ratatoskr, Dracula, and a secret fight against Kingpin.

How does the asymmetric format work?
The hero side plays close to standard Marvel Rivals. Six players coordinate using their normal abilities to chip down Loki's health and capture the objective. The challenge is that Loki has been given a substantially larger health pool for this mode, so raw damage output from the Avengers team matters a lot.
Loki's side is where things get genuinely unusual. His kit in this mode is built around the Mind Stone, adding mind control mechanics that did not exist in his standard kit. The ability to briefly take over an opposing hero and use their full moveset is a direct reference to the 2012 film and creates real chaos when used well against a coordinated team.

Loki's full ability set in this mode is documented below. His illusion and invisibility tools carry over from his standard kit, but the Mind Stone abilities are entirely new to this event.
The Chrono-Chaos Command Ultimate is the one to watch. Summoning six cloned Avengers at once essentially doubles the pressure on the hero team during its duration, making it a fight-ending ability if the heroes do not have enough burst ready to interrupt or survive it.

How to play as the Avengers team
The hero side has numbers but not the health advantage. Six players against one sounds straightforward until Loki starts mind-controlling your teammates. Here is what actually matters.
Focus fire and stay spread. Loki's Bend The Knee fires an energy wave, not a single-target ability, so bunching up risks multiple heroes getting mind-controlled simultaneously. Keep enough distance between teammates that a single cast cannot hit more than one or two of you.
Prioritize Illusions. Loki's Illusion Bombardment and Art Of Deception both involve conjured Illusions that deal persistent damage. Destroying them quickly removes a sustained damage source and denies Loki the teleport target that Royal Presence requires.
Save burst for the Ultimate. When Chrono-Chaos Command activates and six cloned Avengers appear, the hero team needs to survive the initial burst and then collapse on Loki himself, since the clones are tied to his Ultimate duration. Burning cooldowns on clones instead of Loki is a trap.

What else is happening during the Path to Doomsday event?
The mode is not the only thing running. According to Game8, film-inspired skins for Iron Man and Loki are being added alongside the new game mode. Players can also watch the full 2012 Avengers film inside the game's Times Square social map and earn free Units along with other bonuses for doing so.
The ongoing 2026 Hellfire Gala community vote is also active, letting players vote on which character receives an exclusive free skin next year. These events are running concurrently, so there is a reasonable amount to do in Marvel Rivals right now beyond the Avengers mode itself.
For players tracking the longer roadmap, the game's director has previously stated plans to move Marvel Rivals beyond standard 6v6 PvP toward what was described as a "comprehensive, moving anime Marvel experience." The rapid addition of Blood Hunt (PvE) and now the asymmetric Avengers mode within the same season update suggests that push is already underway.
When does the Avengers event end?
The mode closes on May 28, 2026 at 9 AM PT. That gives you roughly four weeks from the April 30 launch date. Future Path to Doomsday events tied to subsequent Avengers films are expected to follow before the December 18, 2026 Avengers: Doomsday film release.
