Dying because you ran out of healing charges is one of the most avoidable problems in Mortal Shell 2. The default 3 charges on Mether's Pulse feel fine in the opening area, but the moment enemies start hitting harder, that margin disappears fast. Two Revered Glands collected early push that number to 5, and the route to both is shorter than most players expect.
What do Revered Glands and Synaptic Vessels actually do?
Mether's Pulse has two separate upgrade paths, each controlled by a different material.
Neither item applies automatically when you pick it up. You spend both through the Mether's Pulse upgrade option at any Beacon while resting. Starting with 3 charges and applying two Revered Glands brings you to 5, which is a significant buffer for longer runs between rest points.

Where to find all Revered Glands early
There are two Revered Glands available before you hit the first major difficulty spike. One is a world pickup near Widow's Overlook, the other is sold by the merchant Merrick back at the hub.

First Revered Gland: Widow's Overlook altar
Rest at the Widow's Overlook Beacon first so you have a nearby respawn point. From there, descend into the muddy area below and angle right toward the zone containing the Great Arbiter of Flesh roaming miniboss.
You do not need to kill it. The item is on a stand at an altar located behind the miniboss encounter area. Scan the rear of that space carefully before leaving, because the altar is easy to walk past if you focus entirely on the enemy in front of you. Interact with the stand to collect the first Revered Gland.

Second Revered Gland: Merrick's Rare Findings
After securing the Widow's Overlook gland, travel back to Verrill's Keep. Find Merrick in the dark interior room where he runs his shop. The key detail here is that the Revered Gland does not appear in his standard shop tab. Open the Rare Findings section specifically. The second Revered Gland and a Synaptic Vessel are both listed there.
Players who browse only the default shop view will assume Merrick has nothing useful and leave empty-handed. Always check Rare Findings before walking out.

How to upgrade Mether's Pulse with both glands
Once you have both Revered Glands, rest at any Beacon. Select the Mether's Pulse upgrade option from the menu. Spend each gland to add a charge, moving from 3 to 5 total. If you also picked up the Synaptic Vessel, apply it during the same visit to increase how much HP each charge restores. There is no reason to hold either item in your inventory longer than necessary.
Common mistakes that slow down this upgrade
Three errors consistently delay players from getting these upgrades done:
- Rushing past the altar area after dealing with the Great Arbiter of Flesh without checking the rear of the space
- Carrying Revered Glands in the inventory without spending them at a Beacon, getting no benefit from them
- Skipping Merrick's Rare Findings tab and assuming his shop has nothing relevant
The whole route from Widow's Overlook to Verrill's Keep and back to a Beacon is short. There is no reason to enter any mid-game area with fewer than 5 healing charges once you know where both glands are.
