To defeat Anubis in Palworld, bring Grass Pals, dodge Forceful Charge sideways, escape Ground Smash’s red circle, and capture it at low HP.

The Twilight Dunes Alpha is level 55 in Palworld 1.0. Its attack cues matter more than trying to trade hits: Lyleen, Vaelet, and Verdash can exploit its Grass weakness, but you still need to protect them with timely recalls. Forceful Charge deserves particular attention because its short windup gives you much less warning than Ground Smash’s landing marker.

Where do you find Alpha Anubis?

Alpha Anubis roams Twilight Dunes near (-134, -94), east of the Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant. Look for the large monument depicting Anubis. This is an overworld encounter, so you can approach it directly.

A straightforward route is to fast travel to the Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant waypoint, then head east into Twilight Dunes. Anubis is aggressive and attacks when you get close, so prepare your party before approaching the monument.

Which Anubis encounter should you choose?

Palworld 1.0 also has regular Anubis encounters outside Twilight Dunes. Their levels make the desert Alpha the lower-level option if you are choosing between wild encounters.

If you are pursuing the level 80 encounters, use the Panthalus capture and World Tree access guide to plan that progression route. For this boss fight, head to Twilight Dunes.

What should you bring to fight Anubis?

Build your party around Grass attacks, which deal increased damage to Ground-element Anubis. Bring your strongest suitable Pals rather than choosing an underprepared Grass Pal purely for its element.

Lyleen is a good option if you already have one ready for combat. Vaelet and Verdash are alternatives that also exploit the matchup.

  • Lyleen: Found at No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary. Use it if it is already one of your stronger Grass Pals.
  • Vaelet: Found at No. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary or as an overworld Alpha. A suitable counter if it is the Grass Pal you have prepared.
  • Verdash: Found at No. 2 Wildlife Sanctuary or as an overworld Alpha. Another option for dealing Grass damage.

Skip Electric Pals for this encounter. Anubis resists Electric attacks, and its Ground attacks are strong against Electric types.

Which food buffs help against Anubis?

Attack food helps if your priority is dealing damage. Defense food is the more relevant choice if Anubis keeps punishing missed dodges. These recipes provide a 10% boost to the corresponding stat.

FoodIngredientsEffectBest for
OmeletTomato ×1, Egg ×2Attack +10%Adding damage with a meat-free recipe
Rushoar Bacon ’n’ EggsRushoar Pork ×2, Egg ×2Attack +10%Adding damage when you have Rushoar Pork

If you want to capture Anubis, pack Ultra Spheres or better before leaving. The capture attempt belongs at low HP, not at the start of the fight.

How do you dodge Anubis’s most dangerous attacks?

Learn Forceful Charge, Ground Smash, and Spinning Roundhouse first. These attacks punish different reactions: Charge requires a sideways dodge, while the other two require you to leave an area around their impact.

Forceful Charge: roll across its path

Watch for Anubis raising its arms, then lowering into a crouch. That crouch is your warning that the dash is coming. Roll perpendicular to its approach rather than retreating along the same line.

If Anubis is targeting your Pal, recall it during the windup. Waiting until Anubis visibly reaches the target can be too late.

Ground Smash: leave the landing circle

Anubis jumps backward, then launches high into the air. A red circle marks where it will land. You have roughly 2 seconds to move out before the impact.

Roll clear of that marker immediately. If your Pal is inside the circle, recall it instead of leaving it exposed to the blast. Ground Smash can immobilize targets caught by the impact, making the dodge especially important.

Spinning Roundhouse: back away from the raised leg

A raised leg and a red area around Anubis signal Spinning Roundhouse. The kick follows quickly and hits targets inside that area.

Roll away if you are standing close to Anubis. Recall your Pal when it is beside the boss and the leg rises. Unlike Forceful Charge, this is an area attack, so your priority is getting outside its reach.

How do you avoid Anubis’s ranged attacks?

Stone Blast, Power Bomb, and Sand Tornado need different dodge directions. Rolling sideways against every projectile is less useful than recognizing what Anubis is preparing.

AttackWhat to watch forYour response
Stone BlastA forward stone projectile that breaks into smaller piecesRoll toward Anubis to avoid the spreading barrage
Power BombAn energy orb charging above Anubis’s headWait for the launch, then dodge toward Anubis
Sand TornadoTwo tornadoes forming on opposite sides of AnubisMove to either side of the boss, away from its front

Power Bomb gives you a clear preparation window. If the orb is aimed at your Pal, recall it while Anubis is charging. If you are the target, watch for the release before rolling.

Sand Tornado is dangerous directly in front of Anubis, where the tornadoes converge. Move laterally when the winds form rather than staying in that frontal path.

How do you capture Anubis after weakening it?

Reduce Alpha Anubis to low HP, then attempt the capture with an Ultra Sphere or better. Keep watching its attack cues while preparing the throw, especially Forceful Charge’s crouch.

The capture setup is simple:

  • Bring Ultra Spheres or a higher tier before starting the encounter.
  • Use Grass attacks to weaken Anubis.
  • Attempt the capture once its HP is low.

What rewards does Alpha Anubis drop?

The Twilight Dunes Alpha drops Ancient Civilization Parts, Bone, Large Pal Soul, and Precious Entrails. In Palworld 1.0, the quantities are:

RewardQuantityDrop rate
Ancient Civilization Parts5–7100%
Bone3–5100%
Large Pal Soul1100%
Precious Entrails5–7100%

The level 80 World Tree encounter has additional rewards, including Ground Radiant Gems. Choose Twilight Dunes for the level 55 Alpha fight rather than expecting its reward table to match the World Tree encounter.

Common mistakes

Dodging backward against Forceful Charge

Retreating along Anubis’s dash path leaves you in its approach. Roll sideways across the direction of travel instead, using the crouch as your cue.

Leaving your Pal inside Ground Smash

Ground Smash’s red circle marks the danger area for your Pal as well as you. Recall a targeted Pal before the landing rather than watching it absorb the impact.

Bringing an Electric damage dealer

Electric attacks are resisted by Anubis, while Ground attacks threaten Electric Pals. A prepared Grass counter is a better fit for this particular boss.

Treating every windup as the same dodge check

Power Bomb calls for waiting until the projectile launches. Forceful Charge calls for reacting early. Learn the named attack instead of using one dodge timing for everything.

Pro tips

  • Read Anubis’s pose before its movement. The crouch before Forceful Charge and raised leg before Spinning Roundhouse tell you which response to use.
  • Watch the target during Power Bomb. Its charge gives you time to recall a targeted Pal; a player-targeted orb instead needs your own dodge.
  • Keep Ground Smash’s marker in view. The red circle gives you a specific area to escape, so prioritize leaving it over continuing to attack.
  • Prepare for the version you are fighting. This guide targets Palworld 1.0 and its level 55 Twilight Dunes Alpha. Check the encounter’s level when returning after updates.

Frequently asked questions

What is Anubis weak to?

Anubis is a Ground-element Pal and takes increased damage from Grass attacks. Lyleen, Vaelet, and Verdash are suitable counterpicks.

Can you breed Anubis instead of fighting it?

Yes. Anubis can hatch from a Huge Rocky Egg produced through breeding. Azurmane + Univolt Cryst is one valid parent combination, so the Alpha fight is not your only route to obtaining it.

Is Anubis useful after you capture it?

Yes. In Palworld 1.0, Anubis has Handiwork 6, Mining 6, and Transporting 4. Its Guardian of the Desert Partner Skill also applies Ground damage to your attacks while fighting together. For your next boss challenge, use the Palworld 1.0 Hard Mode Tower guide to plan elemental counters and gear loadouts.
