Sick Parafolk are a real problem in Paralives. The Digestive System Virus hits without warning, tanks your Para's needs, and spreads to every healthy household member if you leave it alone. The good news: there are three ways to deal with it, and one of them works instantly.
What does the Digestive System Virus actually do?
When a Para picks up the Digestive System Virus (usually from work or school, the effects kick in across multiple needs at once. The Hunger bar gets largely ignored because the Para is too unwell to eat. Sleep and Bathroom bars drain faster than normal, so you'll need to stay on top of both.
Beyond needs, sick Paras perform worse at daily tasks including work. The status effect lasts 12 hours. That's a long time to let things slide, especially if you have multiple Paras sharing a home.
The Digestive System Virus is contagious. Any healthy Para who comes into contact with a sick one can catch it too. If you can't treat the illness immediately, try to keep your sick Para away from the rest of the household.

How to cure viruses and illnesses in Paralives
There are three methods available right now. Each has different tradeoffs depending on what resources you have on hand.
Visit a Health Center (fastest method)
This is the quickest reliable cure. There are two Health Centers on the town map. The smaller one is labeled Pharmacy and sits opposite the pizza place. The larger hospital is located opposite the Community Center.
To use either building:
- Switch to controlling the sick Para.
- Zoom out to the Town view and look for the plus (+) icon on the map.
- Click on the Health Center building.
- Select Seek Care.
Once treatment finishes, you'll get a notification confirming the Para has been cured. Their disrupted needs reset to normal at the same time.
You don't need to visit the large hospital specifically. The smaller Pharmacy works just as well for curing the Digestive System Virus, so use whichever is closer on the map.

Cook Chicken Noodle Soup (slower, requires a specific perk)
This option only works if you have a Para with the Good at Taking Care of Others Social Perk. While controlling that Para, click on the fridge and select Make chicken noodle soup.
This method does not cure the virus outright. Instead, it reduces the remaining hours on the status effect. Each batch yields one portion, so if multiple Paras are sick, you'll need to cook it multiple times.
Use cheats to clear the virus instantly
If you want the virus gone right now without any trips to the Health Center, the cheat console is your fastest option. Press Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheat command input, then type CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS.
This command removes all current status effects from the selected Para, not just the virus. That means positive statuses like Happy or Excited will also be wiped. Worth knowing before you use it. For a full breakdown of what else you can do with the console, the Paralives all cheat commands guide covers every available command organized by category.
Can you prevent the Digestive System Virus?
Based on the available source material, there's no confirmed prevention mechanic in the current Early Access build. The virus appears to trigger randomly when Paras go to work or return from school. The best practical step is to act fast once you see the status effect appear, before it spreads.
Paralives is still in Early Access, so this may change as Paralives Studio continues updating the game. Check the Paralives guides collection for updated strategies as new content rolls out.
