The Noxious mutation in Fisch looks like a trap at first glance. It cuts your fish sell value to 0.3x, which makes it actively counterproductive for money farming. The reason you want it anyway is the Plaguereaver Rod, one of the strongest rods in the game, which requires Noxious-mutated catches to unlock. The only way to reliably produce Noxious fish is with the Toxinburst Rod, a craftable Stage 6 rod locked behind a chain of quests in Roblox's Fisch. This guide covers every step to craft it and start generating Noxious mutations on demand.

What is the Noxious mutation in Fisch?
The Noxious mutation applies a 0.3x sell multiplier to any fish it affects, meaning a fish worth 10,000 C$ normally sells for only 3,000 C$ with the mutation active. That makes it one of the worst mutations for passive income runs.
The upside is purely progression-based. Catching a Noxious Rotbloom is a requirement for unlocking the Plaguereaver Rod, so you need a reliable source of Noxious fish before you can complete that quest chain. The Toxinburst Rod is the only tool in the game that produces this mutation consistently.

How to get the Toxinburst Rod
The Toxinburst Rod requires 4 crafting materials and 185,000 C$. All materials come from quests and activities inside Toxic Grove. Before anything else, find Olivia in Toxic Grove and complete her introductory quest to receive a Toxic-Proof Raft. Without it, you cannot navigate the region.

Quest breakdown and materials
| Material | Source | How to Get It |
|---|---|---|
| Toxinburst Handle | Twisted Collection quest (Elijah) | Equip the Toxic Spire Rod and catch one Toxic Jellymass, one Mire Krakenling, and one Planterech in Toxic Grove waters |
| Toxinburst Line | Plagued Reaper Stage 1 | Wait for a Toxic Boil event, then use the Decayed Rod with Shark Head bait to catch one Decayed-mutated Venom Maw |
| Toxinburst Shaft | Blight Specimen quest (Felix) | Place Reinforced Crab Cages in Toxic Grove and keep appraising catches until you get the Giant variant of Blight Pufferfish |
| Toxic Jellymass | Crab Cages (Toxic Grove) | Place multiple Reinforced Crab Cages in Toxic Grove waters and collect from them |
After collecting all 4 materials, head to the Ancient Archives and craft the Toxinburst Rod for 185,000 C$. The rod requires level 325 to equip.
Toxinburst Rod stats and abilities
The Toxinburst Rod is built around its Fungus passive ability, which generates mutations and bonus fish at an escalating rate the longer you fish without stopping.

How the Fungus ability works
The Fungus ability has several interconnected systems:
- Every 1 to 2 seconds, the rod bursts poison that increases catch progress by 4%.
- A new fungus spawns every 20 to 40 seconds. Each fungus lasts 3 seconds and has a 20% chance to explode, granting 2 to 3 Noxious fish before disappearing.
- Any fish produced by a fungus explosion receives a 100% guaranteed Noxious mutation.
- Catching a fish activates Propagation, which lasts 1 minute. Each subsequent catch while Propagation is active adds 20 seconds to the timer and increases the tier by 1, up to a cap of Propagation 50.
- Each Propagation tier increases fungus spawn rate by 25% and poison burst rate by 2.5%. At Propagation 50, those bonuses reach 1,250% and 125%, respectively.
How to use the Toxinburst Rod for Noxious catches
For standard catches, the rod applies Noxious at a 35% rate. The Fungus explosions are where volume really picks up, since every explosion guarantees 2 to 3 Noxious fish. Getting to Propagation 50 makes those explosions happen far more frequently.
The practical approach:
- Equip the Toxinburst Rod and head to Toxic Grove.
- Start fishing immediately and maintain a continuous session to build Propagation tiers.
- Let the poison bursts and fungus explosions do the heavy lifting at higher Propagation levels.
- Keep any Toxic-mutated catches (6x sell value) and discard or sell the Noxious ones unless you need them for the Plaguereaver quest.
For the Plaguereaver Rod specifically, you need to catch a Noxious Rotbloom. Fish for Rotbloom in the appropriate Toxic Grove waters while the Toxinburst Rod is active, and the 35% base rate plus fungus explosions will produce the mutation eventually.
